Youths' satisfaction with youth-friendly services and its relationship with retention in HIV care and viral load suppression at a tertiary hospital in Enugu State: a retrospective cross-sectional study with retrospective record review.

BACKGROUND: HIV/AIDS has claimed over 40.1 million lives, including youths aged 15-24 years, since the start of the epidemic in 1981. Sadly, there are still reports of poor retention in care and poor viral load suppression among the youths. Youth-friendly HIV services are intended to improve engagement in care among adolescents and young people living with HIV, but evidence on how perceived satisfaction with these services relates to retention and viral suppression in routine tertiary care remains limited. This study assessed the youths' satisfaction with youth-friendly services (YFS) and thei

Structural associations between health insurance and mental well-being among people living with HIV: a multi-method analysis.

BACKGROUND: In the post-antiretroviral therapy (ART) era, HIV care has shifted towards maximizing multidimensional Health-Related Quality of Life (HRQoL), yet a "clinical-social disconnect" persists among virally suppressed patients. This study investigates the structural associations between institutional health insurance tiers and mental well-being among people living with HIV (PLWH), exploring an 'Environment-Centric' associational framework. METHODS: A cross-sectional observational study was conducted among 710 virally suppressed PLWH in Western China using consecutive sampling. Participa

Sexually Transmitted Infections Among Men Who Have Sex With Men Using Daily and Event-Driven HIV Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis: A Retrospective Cohort Study.

BACKGROUND: HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) has reduced HIV incidence among men who have sex with men (MSM), but bacterial sexually transmitted infections (STIs) remain common, with limited data comparing regimens. METHODS: A retrospective cohort study was conducted at Melbourne Sexual Health Centre, Australia (2024-2025). MSM aged ≥18 reporting PrEP use (daily, event-driven, or switching) who were tested for chlamydia, gonorrhea, or syphilis were included. Positivity was assessed at first consultation (baseline); incidence was assessed among those with ≥2 tests ≥30 days apart. Logistic a

Artificial Intelligence-Integrated Proteome-Wide Target Prioritization for Drug Discovery against Multidrug-Resistant Neisseria gonorrhoeae.

Neisseria gonorrhoeae causes ∼82.4 million infections annually and is rapidly approaching an untreatable status. The pathogen has developed resistance to every antibiotic class introduced since the sulfonamide era. Ceftriaxone, the last WHO- and CDC-recommended empirical therapy, is now compromised by high-level resistance in extensively drug-resistant lineages reported across multiple continents. No licensed vaccine exists, and no antibiotic with a novel mechanism has been introduced for this pathogen in over 40 years. Conventional drug discovery is too slow and insufficiently resistance-awar

Systemic and Mucosal Antibody Responses Against Neisseria gonorrhoeae (Ng) Outer Membrane Vesicle Antigens following Four-Component Meningococcal Serogroup B (4CMenB) Immunization in Healthy Adults: A Randomized Phase II Trial.

Meningococcal serogroup B (MenB) vaccines containing outer membrane vesicles (OMVs) may provide cross-protection against Neisseria gonorrhoeae infections but vaccine-induced mucosal immune responses remain poorly characterized. This phase 2, double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled trial evaluates the immunogenicity of four-component MenB vaccine (4CMenB) against OMVs from gonococcal strains 1291 and CNG20. Study outcomes were IgG antibody responses (assessed using ELISA) in rectal mucosal secretions (primary), serum (secondary), vaginal secretions and saliva (exploratory). Healthy adults

Prevalence of Chlamydia trachomatis and Neisseria gonorrhoeae among Ugandan Adolescents and Adults Vulnerable to HIV.

BACKGROUND: Chlamydia and gonorrhea are common sexually transmitted infections (STIs) in populations with behavioral vulnerability to HIV. In Uganda, routine syndromic STI management underdiagnoses infections. METHODS: Between October 2022 and September 2024, we enrolled participants in Kampala, Uganda, aged 14-55 years, without HIV, who reported a recent documented STI, injection drug use, transactional sex, condomless sex, or anal sex with males. Urine and anorectal/oropharyngeal swabs were tested for Chlamydia trachomatis and Neisseria gonorrhoeae (Xpert CT/NG, Cepheid). Multivariable robu

Enabling Ciprofloxacin Resistance-Guided Therapy for Neisseria gonorrhoeae: Aligning Diagnostics, Regulation, Guidelines, and Reimbursement.

Gonorrhea treatment in the United States relies on empirically administered intramuscular ceftriaxone. Diagnostics to predict Neisseria gonorrhoeae ciprofloxacin susceptibility/resistance could enable use of ciprofloxacin, a low-cost, single-dose oral antibiotic, to treat ciprofloxacin-susceptible gonorrhea. Ciprofloxacin resistance in N. gonorrhoeae is overwhelmingly mediated by a single mutation in gyrA at codon 91. Molecular interrogation of this site reliably predicts ciprofloxacin resistance and susceptibility. The Antibacterial Resistance Leadership Group (ARLG) is performing a multicent

Health information literacy mediates the relationship between active information seeking and HPV-related knowledge among female undergraduates: the moderating role of information channel characteristics.

BACKGROUND: Cervical cancer remains a significant global public health challenge. Although human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination effectively reduces incidence, coverage among Chinese female undergraduates remains suboptimal. Adequate HPV-related knowledge (HK) is essential for promoting vaccination uptake; however, the mechanism by which HPV-related active information seeking behavior (AISB) translates into accurate HK through health information literacy (HIL) remains underexplored. This study examines the mediating effect of HIL in the AISB-HK relationship and the moderating roles of primary

Implementing single-dose HPV vaccination in Canada.

The World Health Organization and the National Advisory Committee on Immunization now recommend a single-dose HPV vaccine schedule for most immunocompetent adolescents. As Canadian jurisdictions transition to a single-dose schedule, we apply a social and behavioral science lens and draw on lessons from previous vaccine schedule changes and international experience to identify potential challenges and opportunities associated with this transition. Key implementation considerations include maintaining public confidence through transparent communication about the rationale for the schedule change

Evaluating Chinese large language models for HIV/AIDS health information: a multidimensional comparative study of response quality.

BACKGROUND: Chinese large language models (LLMs) are increasingly used for HIV/AIDS health information, yet their multidimensional performance remains unevaluated. This study systematically assessed five mainstream Chinese LLMs across accuracy, caring, completeness, understandability, and actionability. METHODS: A cross-sectional evaluation was conducted using 50 standardized HIV/AIDS questions. Each model's responses were rated by three independent experts on five dimensions, including adapted PEMAT-based items. Latent profile analysis (LPA) and partial correlation network analysis were empl

Development of a Behavioral Intervention, Increasing HPV Vaccine Uptake-Delivered in Dental Settings (HPV Vaccine Uptake-DDS).

We developed a behavioral intervention designed to address barriers faced by dental practitioners promoting the Human Papillomavirus vaccine to eligible patients. Guided by the Behavior Change Wheel; our approach included a rapid literature review and interviews with dental practitioners to identify and understand these barriers. We then applied the Capability, Opportunity, Motivation and Behavior model and the Theoretical Domains Framework to identify and specify draft intervention functions which were mapped to the Behavior Change Technique Taxonomy. These functions target key barriers, in p

"Sisters Influencing Sisters:" Findings from a Community-Engaged Process to Develop a Social Media-Based, Influencer-Delivered Intervention to Increase PrEP Awareness, Knowledge, and Uptake Among Transgender Women.

Transgender women (TW) shoulder a disproportionate burden of HIV diagnoses, yet are less likely to use PrEP, due to intersectional social and structural barriers to accessing services. TW utilize social media to share health information and foster community, yet to date, most studies leveraging the power of these platforms for PrEP interventions have focused on gay men. To address this gap, we partnered with TW social media influencers and engaged a Community Advisory Board (CAB) to develop an Instagram-based intervention to increase PrEP awareness, knowledge, and use among TW. Over quarterly
