Awareness of obesity's causes is not linked to less Weight-Related bias.

Weight stigma remains a major public health issue that negatively impacts individuals living with obesity. This study explores its prevalence in the Spanish adult population and examines whether viewing obesity as a disease influences societal attitudes. A representative sample of 1,000 adults participated in a Computer-Assisted Telephone Interview assessing knowledge, stereotypes, prejudice, and discrimination related to obesity, along with sociodemographic data and personal beliefs about its causes. While 40.8% attributed obesity to a lack of self-control, 59.2% considered it a disease. Thos

Syndemic lives of women who smoke and experience homelessness: secondary analysis of US qualitative data.

Tobacco use remains the leading cause of preventable deaths worldwide. Despite efforts by many countries to reduce the impact of tobacco products and lower smoking rates, smoking prevalence is higher among people experiencing homelessness. The reasons are complex and go beyond individual choices, including limited awareness about quitting, restricted access to services, and previous negative experiences. This study is a secondary data analysis of qualitative interviews with women experiencing homelessness. The original data were collected in 2021 as part of a study aimed at understanding tobac

Non-psychiatric physicians' learning experiences from past psychiatric training in Japan: a qualitative pilot study with intergroup contact theory approach.

BACKGROUND: Stigma associated with mental illness remains a pervasive global issue. This stigma is particularly pronounced in Japan, where mental healthcare may be perceived as a distinct culture: separate from mainstream medical care. The present pilot study aimed to clarify the learning experiences derived from direct contact with psychiatric care settings as medical students and postgraduate residents among physicians who subsequently pursued specialties outside of psychiatry. We focused on how such training may contribute to reducing stigma and improving attitudes toward mental illness fro

Functional and morphological characterization of coronary atherosclerosis.

BACKGROUND: The interplay between coronary artery hemodynamics and atherosclerotic plaque is not fully understood. The Pullback Pressure Gradient (PPG), a novel physiological metric, categorizes coronary artery disease (CAD) into focal or diffuse patterns based on coronary physiology. OBJECTIVES: This study investigates the association between the PPG and coronary atherosclerosis, as characterized by intravascular ultrasound (IVUS). METHODS: This is a pre-specified analysis of the PPG Global study (NCT04789317). We included stable patients with hemodynamically significant lesions (FFR ≤0.80)

Pharmacotherapy of Psychotic Disorders in Türkiye: Insights From a National Prescription Database.

OBJECTIVE: Psychotic disorders, affecting 3-7 per 1000 individuals, significantly impair mental functioning. Although antipsychotic medications represent the mainstay of treatment, prescribing practices can vary based on patient characteristics and across different countries. Currently, national epidemiological data on psychotropic prescribing patterns in Türkiye are lacking, and understanding these variations is crucial for informing treatment guidelines and optimizing patient care. METHODS: Data from the Turkish Prescription Information System (PIS) for the year 2019 were analyzed to evalua

Hämatrain-Hybrid movement therapy during inpatient and outpatient hematological treatment: correlations with physical and psychological parameters.

BACKGROUND: Prior research indicates that engaging in physical activity during chemotherapy can positively influence both physical and psychological parameters in individuals with hematological neoplasms. However, the most effective type, level, intensity, and frequency of exercise remains unclear. PATIENTS AND METHODS: We enrolled 53 patients to a clinical trial assessing a partly supervised hybrid training program including both strength and endurance components, commencing at onset of induction therapy (T0) for hematological malignancies, including AML (n = 29), ALL (n = 5), and NHL (n = 1

Micronutrient status among patients diagnosed with eating disorders.

OBJECTIVE: Micronutrients are essential for physiological functioning, and deficiencies may lead to adverse health outcomes. As micronutrient intake depends entirely on dietary consumption, individuals with eating disorders (EDs) are particularly vulnerable to developing deficiencies. Although numerous studies have investigated micronutrient status in individuals with EDs, findings remain inconsistent, sample sizes are often limited, and most research has focused primarily on anorexia nervosa (AN). This observational cross-sectional study aimed to examine micronutrient levels in blood across m

Suicidal Ideation in Adult Women: The Unique Roles of Binging, Purging, and Restricting.

OBJECTIVE: Suicidal ideation represents a serious experience common in individuals with eating disorders. To inform screening and clinical assessment and advance theoretical work, the current study compared clinical characteristics between adult women with and without current suicidal ideation and examined whether binging, fasting, and purging behaviors are uniquely associated with suicidal ideation above and beyond existing psychiatric diagnoses. METHOD: Data come from four studies conducted between 2000 and 2023 (N = 732) that evaluated current suicidal ideation in all participants. Partici

Psychometric evaluation of a trans-addiction craving questionnaire: The Craving Assessment Scale for Behavioral Addictions and Substance-use Disorders (CASBAS).

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: Craving is a central construct across different kinds of addictive disorders, but craving assessments are highly heterogeneous. Our aim was to develop a valid, standardized and short scale for assessing subjective feelings of acute craving for different substances and addictive behaviors using the same set of items. We aimed to test the resulting scale, the Craving Assessment Scale for Behavioral Addictions and Substance-use Disorders (CASBAS) for factor structure (proposing three factors: reward craving, relief craving, urgency) and validity (study 1) and sensitivity to c

Apathy in Parkinson's Disease: A Diagnostic Conundrum Explored in a Cohort Characterization Study.

OBJECTIVE: Apathy is a prevalent neuropsychiatric feature of Parkinson's disease (PD), marked by reduced goal-directed behavior. Apathy is distinct from depression and significantly affects daily functioning and quality of life. Despite this, the DSM-5 does not acknowledge apathy as its own diagnostic category. The authors sought to examine how individuals with PD who score high on a self-report apathy scale are diagnostically classified by psychiatrists within a clinical setting. METHODS: Fifty-five individuals with "pure apathy" were identified from a larger clinical convenience sample of 4

Shifting mortality patterns of primary liver cancer in the United States: a 20-year analysis of disparities.

BACKGROUND: Primary liver cancer is a leading cause of cancer-related mortality worldwide. Despite its significant disease burden, long-term trends in primary liver cancer mortality across diverse demographic and geographic populations in the United States (U. S.) remain insufficiently characterized. METHODS: We analyzed national mortality data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Wide-ranging Online Data for Epidemiologic Research (CDC WONDER) database from 1999 to 2020. Deaths were identified using International Classification of Diseases, Tenth Revision (ICD-10) codes C22.0-

Using Medication Dispensation Data to Identify Clusters with Similar Prescribing Patterns in Older Adults Living with Dementia.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Older adults living with dementia are a heterogeneous group, which can make studying optimal medication management challenging. Unsupervised machine learning is a group of computing methods that rely on unlabeled data-that is, where the algorithm itself is discovering patterns without the need for researchers to label the data with a known outcome. These methods may help us to better understand complex prescribing patterns in this population. The objective of our study was to use clustering methods to determine whether common prescribing clusters exist in older adult
