Associations between parental generative artificial intelligence health-advice use and child vaccination uptake in Japan: an exploratory cross-sectional study.

BACKGROUND: Parents increasingly use generative artificial intelligence (AI) for health information, but evidence on parental AI use and childhood vaccination is limited. We examined exploratory associations between regular parental AI health-advice use and childhood vaccination in Japan. METHODS: This cross-sectional study analyzed 2025 nationwide survey data from children aged 1 to 17 years and parents, with a linked 2023-2025 sub-analysis. The exposure was regular parental use of generative AI for health advice at least a few times per month. Outcomes were age-appropriate measles-rubella (

Age at Autism Diagnosis in the Norwegian Mother, Father, and Child Cohort Study (MoBa): Exploring the Association With Family Well-Being.

For many autistic individuals, close family members represent a crucial source of support throughout their lifetime. Early autism diagnosis is thought to benefit both autistic individuals and their family members by facilitating early access to services and information. However, little research has empirically studied the relationship between age at diagnosis and well-being among autistic individuals and their family members. In this study, we examined predictors of age at autism diagnosis and its relationship with family well-being using the population-based Norwegian Mother, Father, and Chil

Clinical Significance of Psychotic Experiences in Preadolescent Children with Non-Psychotic Mental Disorders-The Danish High Risk and Resilience Study, VIA 11.

BACKGROUND AND HYPOTHESIS: Psychotic experiences (PE) are associated with higher severity of other psychopathology in adults and adolescents with non-psychotic mental disorders. Knowledge on the clinical significance of PE in children with non-psychotic mental disorders, which may help improve early identification of need for treatment, is sparse. STUDY DESIGN: In this cross-sectional study, preadolescent children (n = 157, mean age 12.0, SD 0.2, range 11.1-12.7 years) at familial high-risk of schizophrenia (n = 78) or bipolar disorder (n = 40) and population-based controls (n = 39) with non-

Forum: Addressing Childhood Trauma and Maltreatment Through the Lens of the ICF.

PURPOSE: This prologue introduces the Language, Speech, and Hearing Services in Schools forum, Addressing Childhood Trauma and Maltreatment Through the Lens of the ICF. The goals of the forum are twofold: first, to draw attention to the prevalence of children who have experienced trauma and maltreatment and how it affects their language and literacy development, and second, to provide an overview of the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF) framework and how it can be used to conceptualize assessment procedures and tailor interventions to meet the individual

Interactions between social adversities and paranoia among Chinese adolescents: An investigation using network approaches.

BACKGROUND: Social adversity is recognized as a risk factor for paranoia. However, few studies have examined multiple forms of social adversities experienced by adolescents while differentiating their unique associations with paranoia. Furthermore, the interaction between social adversities and their potential influence on paranoia remains unclear. OBJECTIVE: To investigate the interactions among histories of child maltreatment, concurrent social adversities, and paranoia, and to explore the potential directions of these relationships. PARTICIPANTS AND SETTING: A valid sample of 1643 Chinese

Lifetime MDMA use and associations with meaning in life in the context of childhood trauma.

Recent research has highlighted the potential of 3,4-methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA)-assisted psychotherapy for the treatment of post-traumatic stress disorder and other trauma-related psychiatric conditions. However, less is known about the effects of MDMA use on psychological well-being in populations with trauma histories outside of clinical contexts. In the present study, we assessed associations between naturalistic lifetime MDMA use (i.e., having ever used MDMA) and an overlooked psychological predictor of resilience – meaning in life. Using data from a survey study of a sample of S

Parenting under the triple burden of violence, depression, and poor diet quality: An intergenerational mother-child syndemic in Nepal.

Parenting while experiencing intimate partner violence (IPV), depression, and poor diet quality can contribute to child health inequities. Syndemic theory offers a framework to understand how maternal conditions can lead to inequitable child health outcomes, such as diarrheal disease: a risk factor for childhood mortality and stunting. This study uses the 2022 Nepal Demographic and Health Survey to test an intergenerational syndemic model addressing three key questions: (1) Do IPV, depression, and absent dietary iron intake co-occur among mothers? (2) Does the probability of child diarrhea inc

Impact of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) on Mental Health Help-Seeking Among Asian American Adults: Findings from the 2021 California Health Interview Survey.

Cumulative adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) and psychological distress have been shown to negatively affect mental health across the lifespan. Less is known, however, about how ACEs might impact mental health help-seeking behavior in adulthood, especially among Asian Americans, a population with high exposure to trauma who also face cultural barriers to mental health care. The study’s aim was to evaluate the prevalence of ACEs within a sample of Asian American respondents, the relationship of ACEs and psychological distress with help-seeking, and the association of ACEs with different type

Social Skills and Emotion Recognition in Children With Elevated Cognitive Disengagement Syndrome Symptoms: A Comparative Study With Children Diagnosed With ADHD and Typically Developing Peers.

OBJECTIVE: Cognitive Disengagement Syndrome (CDS) is increasingly viewed as a distinct childhood condition. Although it overlaps with ADHD in some features, emerging evidence suggests a unique behavioral and cognitive profile. However, research examining social functioning and emotion recognition in children with pure CDS remains limited. METHODS: This study compared social competence and facial emotion recognition abilities among children aged 8 to 12 years across three groups: those with elevated CDS symptoms (n = 43), those with ADHD (n = 40), and healthy controls (n = 43). Social function

The bidirectional relationship between children's bedtime irregularity & hyperactivity/inattention symptoms: a prospective cohort study.

OBJECTIVES: Although cross-sectional data indicated positive association between hyperactivity and inattention problems and irregular bedtime, longitudinal studies on this topic are scarce leading to no clear inference regarding their directional relationship. Thus, using a prospective birth cohort, we examined the longitudinal relationship between hyperactivity/inattention problems and bedtime irregularity among children aged 5–11 years. STUDY DESIGN: We made use of a nationally representative British birth cohort (N = 15430). Parents reported their children’s hyperactivity/inattention sympto

The impact of social determinants of health and trajectories of medication use on functional outcomes in children with ADHD: study protocol.

BACKGROUND: Attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a prevalent neurodevelopmental disorder characterised by inattention, hyperactivity and impulsivity, resulting in impaired functioning in multiple settings, including home, school and in social settings. Disparities exist in ADHD care among children, with White male children experiencing increased access to diagnosis and treatment. Other children remain underdiagnosed, undertreated and subject to poorer functional outcomes. Factors that impact equitable ADHD treatment include gender, race, ethnicity and social determinants of healt

Maternal adverse childhood experiences and prenatal stress: Intergenerational transmission and offspring mental health in the ECHO Cohort.

BACKGROUND: The rising global prevalence of pediatric mental health problems requires the identification of preventable factors underlying their development. This study assessed whether maternal adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) and pregnancy stress were intergenerationally associated with offspring mental health. METHODS: This study used data from 34 sites in the nationwide Environmental Influences on Child Health Outcomes Cohort. Eligible parent-child dyads (child age: 1.5-18 years) provided data on at least one measure of maternal stress and at least one measure of child mental health.

[Research progress in signaling pathways involved in traditional Chinese medicine treatment of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder].

Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder(ADHD), a common neurodevelopmental disorder in children, is characterized by inattention, hyperactivity, and impulsivity. Epidemiological surveys show that the prevalence of ADHD in children is gradually increasing worldwide, and it is the most common childhood mental disorder in China. Because of the complex clinical symptoms, multiple co-morbidities, and unknown etiology, ADHD has far-reaching negative impacts on individuals, families, and the society. Behavioral interventions, as a pillar in the management of ADHD, play a targeted role in improving c

Factors associated with employment and hospitalizations in early-onset psychosis: a clinical study with register-based follow-up.

BACKGROUND: The prognosis of psychosis with onset in childhood and adolescence is highly variable. This study explores long-term outcomes of early-onset psychosis (EOP) compared to controls (HC) and examines predictors of employment as well as psychiatric and somatic hospitalizations in EOP. METHODS: We combined data from four clinical studies, comprising a total of 205 individuals with first-episode EOP and 199 age- and sex-matched HCs. Long-term follow-up data (mean = 11 years) on demographic, functional, and clinical outcomes were retrieved from Danish national registers. Factors associate

Home environment conditions during childhood and psychosocial outcomes across three generations in Sweden: population based adoption-discordant sibling comparison study.

OBJECTIVES: To examine if early adoption into a family with favourable home environment conditions reduces long term psychosocial risks and provides intergenerational benefits among individuals born to parents with psychiatric or behavioural problems. DESIGN: Population based adoption-discordant sibling comparison study. SETTING: Swedish registers of births between 1950 and 1980, with follow-up to 31 December 2020. PARTICIPANTS: Two samples of sibling pairs from at risk families: 4254 full siblings and 7796 maternal half siblings, who were or were not adopted before age 10 years. Offspring

Comprehensive Intervention to Promote Healthy Lifestyles and Prevent Cardiometabolic Diseases in Low-Income School Children From Mexico: Protocol for the ESCOLARISANO Randomized Controlled Trial.

BACKGROUND: Obesity is a serious public health issue affecting children in a progressively alarming manner; thus, nutrition education and behavior change interventions during childhood are a priority. Eating and physical activity behaviors are mainly influenced by the environment; therefore, lifestyle changes are often successful when interventions are implemented in places such as the home and school. Schools are fundamental for ensuring the development of students' personalities, skills, abilities, and long-term behaviors. OBJECTIVE: This study aims to measure the effect of an intervention

Comparative multidimensional psychosocial profiles of major depressive disorder patients with higher versus lower anhedonia burden: a cross-sectional study.

BACKGROUND: Anhedonia is a core symptom of major depressive disorder (MDD) and is linked to greater severity, poorer functioning, and elevated suicide risk, yet its broader psychosocial correlates in routine clinical settings remain insufficiently characterized. This study compared multidimensional psychosocial profiles between MDD patients with higher versus lower anhedonia burden. METHODS: In this cross-sectional study, outpatients aged 18-45 years with MDD were recruited between January and December 2024; 125 participants with complete and valid questionnaires were included in the final an

Investigation of phubbing behavior in attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and cognitive disengagement syndrome: a case-control study in adolescent.

BACKGROUND: Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a common childhood neurodevelopmental disorder characterized by inattention, hyperactivity, and impulsivity beyond developmental expectations. Problematic technology engagement, including increased smartphone use, is frequently observed among adolescents with ADHD. Phubbing, a term combining 'phone' and 'snubbing,' refers to ignoring others in a social setting by focusing on one's smartphone rather than engaging in face-to-face interaction and has been linked to impaired interpersonal communication. Cognitive Disengagement Syndrome

The Danish Region Midt Schizophrenia Cohort - Representative, long-term follow-up of first-episode schizophrenia spectrum disorder.

INTRODUCTION: Schizophrenia spectrum disorders (SSD) are complex illnesses influenced by genetic, biological and psycho-social factors, necessitating large clinical deep-phenotyped cohorts. Here, we describe the Region Midt Schizophrenia (RMS) Cohort, which aims to establish such a large, representative cohort with long-term follow-up, enabling large-scale studies on SSD etiology and prognosis. METHODS: The RMS cohort includes patients aged ≥15 years diagnosed with a first-episode SSD recruiting at 6 Danish psychiatric hospitals. Baseline and follow-up assessments at 1, 2, 3, and 12 months an

Development of Physical Activity from Childhood to Adolescence in Offspring at Familial High Risk of Schizophrenia or Bipolar Disorder and Population-Based Controls: The Danish High Risk and Resilience Study.

BACKGROUND: Schizophrenia and bipolar disorder are associated with elevated morbidity and premature mortality, including cardiovascular disease. This excess risk may, among other factors, relate to reduced physical activity (PA) beginning in childhood. Studying children at familial high risk of schizophrenia (FHR-SZ) or bipolar disorder (FHR-BD) may help characterize early behavioural trajectories. STUDY METHODS: We conducted a sub study of PA within The Danish High Risk and Resilience Study VIA, a longitudinal cohort study. A total of 367 children underwent accelerometry at age 11 years, and
