Condyloma acuminatum of the urinary bladder as an overactive bladder-wet mimic.

Condyloma acuminata is a surface epithelial lesion caused by human papillomavirus (HPV) infection that usually affects the anogenital region. Rarely has it been found to affect the urinary tract, and its peculiarity explains why there are only a handful of cases described in literature. Bladder involvement can produce a myriad of symptoms including hematuria, urinary obstruction, nocturia, pain, frequency, and urgency. Majority of the cases reported in literature presented with overactive bladder (OAB) symptoms which include the presence of urgency, usually accompanied by frequency and nocturi

Multimodal treatment approach for giant condylomata acuminata complicated by lichen sclerosus: A case report.

A 65-year-old male presented with cauliflower-like growths on the penis for two years. Physical examination revealed erythema and cutaneous atrophy on the prepuce, glans, and external urethral meatus, with diffuse cauliflower-like proliferations on this basis. Based on the clinical and histopathological findings, a diagnosis of condylomata acuminata (CA) with concomitant lichen sclerosus (LS) was made. The patient received a multimodal treatment involving 5-aminolevulinic acid photodynamic therapy (ALA-PDT), Holmium-laser, and curettage, which led to significant improvement of the lesions. No

Detection of human papillomavirus with low-risk chromogenic in situ hybridization probes in seborrheic keratosis-like lesions of the male genital tract.

Seborrheic keratosis (SK) most commonly occurs on the trunk of older individuals. However, lesions resembling SK have been reported at genital sites. In this situation, positivity for human papillomavirus (HPV) has been documented, mostly in female patients, suggesting that these are more akin to condyloma than SK. We aimed to characterize genital SK-like lesions in men, including HPV status assessed by chromogenic in situ hybridization. We retrieved 40 specimens from 37 patients. The average patient age was 47, and most lesions were from the penis (75%), less commonly groin (12%), perineum (8

HPV-related Vulvar Disease.

Human papillomaviruses (HPV) are the most common cause of sexually transmitted infections worldwide and can play a role in vulvar disease. This review provides a clinically relevant summary of our current understanding of the virology, epidemiology, and pathogenesis of HPV along with diagnosis and management strategies of condyloma acuminata, vulvar intraepithelial neoplasia (VIN), and invasive squamous cell carcinoma. Formal screening and management guidelines for vulvar disease, especially cancer, remain limited, highlighting the need for more robust evidence and consensus. Early recognition

Genetic, Immunohistochemical and mRNA In Situ Hybridization Profiling of Condyloma with Concurrent Squamous Cell Carcinoma and High-Grade Squamous Intraepithelial Lesion.

Condyloma acuminatum is a human papilloma virus (HPV)-associated papillary lesion of the lower anogenital tract. Although a majority are benign, rarely the coexistence of high-grade squamous intraepithelial lesion (HSIL) or invasive squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) with condyloma has been reported, which is important to recognize and diagnose. In this study, we examined the clinicopathologic, immunohistochemical (IHC), and HPV mRNA in situ hybridization (RISH) signal patterns of 63 condylomas, 35 condylomas with concurrent HSIL, 15 condylomas with concurrent SCC, 8 warty HSILs, and 17 warty SCCs.

Fractionated electrocoagulation combined with delayed photodynamic therapy for treating giant perianal condyloma acuminatum: A case report.

Giant perianal condyloma acuminatum poses significant clinical challenges due to its extensive lesions and high recurrence rates. Traditional treatments, like surgical excision, frequently result in considerable tissue damage and impaired anal function. This paper presents a case of a patient with a giant perianal mass successfully treated with an innovative combined approach involving staged electrocautery followed by delayed photodynamic therapy, leading to complete lesion clearance. This method offers an effective treatment paradigm for giant perianal condyloma acuminatum.

Vulvar Low-Grade Squamous Intraepithelial Lesion (LSIL) and Small Condyloma are Overlapping Clinicopathologic Entities.

OBJECTIVES: Describe clinicopathologic features of vulvar low-grade squamous intraepithelial lesion (LSIL) and small condyloma to elaborate diagnostic criteria. METHODS: Pathology database search identified vulvar biopsies reported as LSIL, wart, or condyloma. Exclusions included cancer specimens, concern for vulvar intraepithelial neoplasia (VIN), large condyloma, and inadequate slides or tissue blocks. After review of histopathology and p16, cases were designated as LSIL or condyloma, and clinical information was collected. Descriptive statistics and group comparisons were performed. RESUL

Population-level impact of HPV vaccination: a global systematic review of ecological, cross-sectional, and cohort studies.

BACKGROUND: Human papillomavirus (HPV) causes approximately 4.5% of cancers globally, with the highest burden in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). Since their introduction in 2006, HPV vaccination programs have led to substantial declines in HPV-related outcomes, although impact varies across settings. RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODS: We conducted a systematic review to evaluate the population-level impact of HPV vaccination on HPV infection, cervical intraepithelial neoplasia grade 2 or higher (CIN2+), genital warts, invasive cervical cancer (ICC), and oropharyngeal cancer (OPC), and exa

Impact of Male Human Papillomavirus (HPV) Vaccination on HPV Infection and HPV-Related Diseases: A Systematic Review.

Human papillomavirus (HPV) is the most common sexually transmitted infection worldwide and is responsible for anogenital warts and several cancers. Although the effectiveness of female HPV vaccination has been well established since its introduction in 2006, no systematic review has specifically evaluated the impact of male vaccination programs introduced in 2011. We synthesised real-world evidence on gender-neutral vaccination (GNV), identifying 17 studies reporting rates of HPV infection, anogenital warts, and HPV-related cancers during the pre- and post-GNV periods among males in high-incom

2024 recommendations for the therapeutic management of anogenital warts.

INTRODUCTION: Anogenital warts (AGW) are benign epithelial skin lesions caused mainly by the human papillomavirus (HPV, types 6 and 11) but are sometimes associated with other oncogenic HPV types. They have a high rate of post-treatment recurrence. There are many guidelines, but they do not prioritise treatments. Therapeutics are classified as either self-administered or clinician applied. The aim of this study was to propose recommendations for the management of AGW. METHOD: These recommendations were based on a systematic review of the literature by a working group (WG) with no links of int

Evaluation of healthcare resource utilisation and costs associated with anogenital warts in South Africa.

BACKGROUND: Human papilloma virus (HPV), the most prevalent sexually transmitted infection worldwide, and in particular HPV 6 and 11, contribute to >90% of anogenital warts (AGW) cases, and high-risk HPV serotypes cause >95% of cervical cancers in South Africa (SA). The healthcare resource utilisation (HCRU) and costs related to AGW in SA remain poorly understood, in both the public and private sectors. OBJECTIVE: To assess the HCRU patterns and associated treatment costs for AGW across the public and private sectors. METHODS: A descriptive, questionnaire-based study was conducted, involving

Condyloma Detection in Neovagina Raises the Demand for Transgender Screening Guidelines. A Case Report and Review of the Literature.

OBJECTIVE: Due to the progress in contemporary surgical methods and the increased awareness of gender dysphoria, vaginoplasty procedures have become more consistently standardized. In recent years, there has been a notable rise in gender-affirming surgeries, including breast reconstruction as well as genital modification procedures like hysterectomy, orchiectomy, and vaginoplasty. Current vaginoplasty techniques include penile inversion vaginoplasty, which uses penile and scrotal tissue, and intestinal vaginoplasty, which uses a segment of bowel to create a neovagina. Considering the tissues u
