PURPOSE: To report a case of infectious keratitis due to Microsporidium after collagen crosslinking (CXL).
METHODS: A 36-year-old man presented with a 3-day history of pain, redness and diminution of vision in his left eye. The patient had received CXL for keratoconus in the left eye 6 days prior to presentation. Best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA) was 20/25 OD and counting fingers OS. Slit lamp examination of the left eye showed a central epithelial defect measuring and multiple stromal infiltrates.

PURPOSE: To evaluate the role of spectral-domain optical coherence tomography (SDOCT) to measure corneal thickness during accelerated corneal crosslinking (CXL).
METHODS: Intraoperative pachymetry was performed using SDOCT and ultrasound pachymetry (USP) in 6 eyes of 6 patients with keratoconus. Pachymetry readings were obtained at baseline, after epithelium removal and after 30 minutes of riboflavin instillation. BACKGROUND: In cases of contact lens intolerance and/or central corneal scars, corneal transplantation is indicated for advanced keratoconus. This can be performed as deep anterior lamellar keratoplasty (DALK) or as penetrating keratoplasty (PKP). Iontophoresis is a method of facilitating the penetration of a drug through an intact tissue in the presence of an low intensity electrical current. In corneal crosslinking technique, iontophoresis is used for transepitelial impregnation of cornea with riboflavin. Compared to passive technique of corneal impregnation, iontophoresis shortens the time needed for impregnation, the time of exposure to UVA radiation and does not require de-epithelialisation.

PURPOSE: To assess intraoperative and postoperative changes in corneal thickness subsequent to riboflavin-UVA (collagen crosslinking [CXL]) treatment.
METHODS: Forty-one eyes of 41 patients (mean age 27.97 ± 6.97 years) were treated with CXL technique. During treatment, isotonic riboflavin was instilled and corneal thickness measurements were obtained at the cornea apex, the thinnest point, and the pupil center at 15 and 30 minutes, then 3 days, 1 week, and 1, 3, 6, and 12 months after surgery using Pentacam HR and an ultrasound pachymeter.

PURPOSE: To determine the prevalence of keratoconus in the 40- to 64-year-old population of Shahroud, Iran.
METHODS: This study was done cross sectionally based on the data from the first phase of the Shahroud Eye Cohort Study. In this study, 6311 patients were selected using random cluster sampling, and 5190 patients (response rate = 82.2%) participated in the study. Here, the analysis was done on data pertaining to those whose topographic map (with Pentacam) had no errors.
