Determinants of axial length growth in infantile persistent fetal vasculature following early lensectomy-vitrectomy: a retrospective cohort.

PURPOSE: To identify clinical determinants of axial length (AL) before and after early surgery in infantile persistent fetal vasculature (PFV). METHODS: Single-center retrospective cohort of 58 unilateral PFV eyes (2019-2022). All infants underwent lensectomy, posterior capsulectomy, vitrectomy, and targeted cauterization under general anesthesia before 12 months. Baseline AL, phenotype, and structural findings (enlarged ciliary processes, retrolental membrane, posterior capsular defect, corneal opacity, posterior synechiae, retinal detachment, Morning Glory disc anomaly) were recorded. Mean

Corneal deformation mapping and FE-based strain analysis via digital image correlation: Biomechanical changes after CXL and laser refractive surgery.

Accurate assessment of corneal mechanical properties is critical for understanding ocular biomechanics, predicting refractive surgery outcomes, and optimizing cross-linking (CXL) treatments. Conventional uniaxial tensile testing is limited by non-physiological boundary conditions and simplified stress distributions. Inflation testing more closely reproduces the in vivo stress state but has traditionally lacked spatially distributed deformation mapping. In this work, we present an integrated experimental-computational protocol combining inflation testing of freshly enucleated porcine eyes with

Anterior segment optical coherence tomography enables repeat Descemet Membrane Endothelial Keratoplasty instead of penetrating keratoplasty in a patient with a prominent corneal opacity following DMEK failure: a case report.

BACKGROUND: Persistent corneal edema in eyes with endothelial dysfunction, such as graft failure, may lead to severe corneal opacification obscuring deeper ocular structures. In such cases, penetrating keratoplasty (PKP) has traditionally been preferred over posterior lamellar keratoplasty techniques to remove the edematous and opaque corneal tissue and replace it with a clear full-thickness graft. CASE PRESENTATION: A 48-year-old woman was referred for PKP one year following primary Descemet Membrane Endothelial Keratoplasty (DMEK) failure in the left eye. As slit-lamp biomicroscopy showed p

Dynamic boronate ester crosslinked hydrogel with robust wet adhesion for regeneration-matched full-thickness corneal repair.

Full-thickness corneal perforation threatens vision, yet sutures and adhesives cause trauma and poor repair. Developing a hydrogel that combines wet adhesion, matched degradation, transparency, and biocompatibility remains challenging. We report a dynamic hydrogel built upon an alginate polysaccharide derivative (3-Aminophenylboronic Acid-Modified Sodium Alginate, SA-3APBA) as the component. This polysaccharide backbone forms reversible boronate ester crosslinks with polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) via its boronic acid groups, while its carboxyl/hydroxyl groups and chain entanglements provide hydrogen

Well-Tolerated Intracorneal Wood Foreign Body of 25-Year Duration.

Intracorneal foreign bodies that persist for a long time are rare. This report presents an unusual case of a foreign body retained in the cornea for over 25 years. The patient, a 42-year-old woman, had a history of ocular trauma caused by a wooden stick. Slit-lamp biomicroscopy of her right eye revealed a 1.5 mm-long intracorneal foreign body extending through Descemet's membrane into the anterior chamber. Since the foreign body was asymptomatic, the patient was monitored, and follow-up examinations at 6 and 12 months showed no changes. This case challenges the conventional understanding that

Bridging the Gap: A Case of Unique Anterior Segment Optical Coherence Tomography Presentation of Retrocorneal Membrane and Fibrous Bridging After Birth-Related Descemet's Membrane Detachment.

Descemet's membrane detachment (DMD) is an uncommon corneal pathology that typically occurs following intraocular surgeries or direct ocular trauma. Congenital or birth trauma-related DMD is rare and often remains undiagnosed in asymptomatic individuals. Longstanding cases may develop fibrous bridging or retrocorneal membrane formation, making diagnosis challenging without advanced imaging. We report the case of a 32-year-old asymptomatic male who presented for a routine ophthalmic evaluation. Slit-lamp examination of the right eye revealed a localized inferotemporal corneal opacity with subtl

[Mucoperiosteal graft in the correction of paralytic lagophthalmos].

UNLABELLED: Various spacers are used to achieve a higher position for the lower eyelid and reduce the degree of lagophthalmos in chronic facial palsy (CFP). Most authors consider a hard palate mucoperiosteal graft (HPG) to have major advantages over other spacers, particularly minimal shrinkage in the postoperative period. However, only a few publications report possible HPG shrinkage, and their findings are based on subjective assessments. OBJECTIVE: The study aimed to perform clinical and echographic assessment of the lower eyelid tissues after the use of HPG for the correction of paralytic

Changing Strategies in Keratoplasty After Corneal Hydrops: From Penetrating to Lamellar Approaches - A Narrative Review.

The hallmark of acute corneal hydrops (CH) is Descemet membrane (DM) rupture that leads to the influx of fluid into the cornea causing corneal edema. Multiple risk factors have been related to an increased incidence of CH in keratoconus (KC) patients, such as Down's syndrome, atopy, vernal keratoconjunctivitis, eye rubbing, and an earlier age of KC onset. Penetrating keratoplasty (PKP), deep anterior lamellar keratoplasty (DALK), compression sutures, cyanoacrylate tissue adhesive with bandage contact lens (BCL), intracameral gas injection, and amniotic membrane transplant (AMT) are some of the
