Premium Intraocular Lenses and Their Impact on Visual Field Assessment: A Narrative Review.

Premium intraocular lens (IOL) such as enhanced monofocal, extended depth-of-focus (EDOF) and multifocal IOL has become increasing popular due to its ability to treat pseudophakic presbyopia and it also offers a spectacle-free lifestyle. However, the difference in light focality between these types of lenses may affect post operative outcomes, such as the worsening of visual field defects. From the existing literature, seven articles were selected for inclusion in this review to determine the effect of these presbyopia-correcting lenses on visual field assessment. Inclusion criteria included a

Ringless Premium Intraocular Lenses - a Narrative Review of Technological Advances.

The standard method for achieving presbyopia correction after cataract extraction has traditionally centered on intraocular lens (IOL) optics featuring concentric diffractive patterns or combinations of diffractive and refractive elements, or "rings". While there has been a transition from simple monofocality to intricate polyfocality in IOLs, this has been accompanied by associated side effects. Halos, glare, reduced contrast sensitivity, waxy vision, low reading speed, reduced depth of focus and difficulty in night vision and driving are important photic phenomena that IOL developers have at

Dexamethasone versus triamcinolone acetonide for the management of postoperative inflammation following cataract surgery: A systematic review and meta-analysis.

BACKGROUND: Cataract remains the leading cause of reversible blindness worldwide, particularly in low-resource settings. Effective control of postoperative inflammation is essential to prevent complications such as cystoid macular edema and raised intraocular pressure. Dexamethasone and Triamcinolone acetonide (TCA) are widely used corticosteroids; however, their comparative efficacy remains uncertain. This updated systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to compare their effectiveness following cataract surgery. METHODS: A systematic search of 4 databases (PubMed, Google Scholar, Cochrane C

Artificial intelligence in corneal endothelial disease and endothelial keratoplasty: current evidence, clinical readiness, and future directions.

Corneal endothelial disease generates high-dimensional imaging and longitudinal data, making it well suited to artificial intelligence (AI). This review follows AI across the endothelial care pathway and judges each application by translational maturity rather than discrimination alone, drawing on a targeted PubMed/MEDLINE search of studies published between 2011 and July 2026. Technical performance is strongest when the task is measurement against a reproducible human reference: endothelial cell segmentation, image quality control, edema and pachymetric mapping, and quantification of Descemet

The neuroscience of transformers.

Neuroscience has long informed the development of artificial neural networks, but the success of modern architectures invites, in turn, the converse: can modern networks teach us lessons about brain function? Here, we examine the structure of the cortical column and propose that the transformer provides a natural computational analogy for multiple elements of cortical microcircuit organization. Rather than claiming a literal implementation of transformer equations in cortex, we develop a hypothetical mapping between transformer operations and laminar cortical features, using the analogy as an
