Suprachoroidal and vitreous haemorrhage as a presenting feature of metastatic melanoma.

A man in his 70s presented with right ocular pain, vision loss and temporal headache 4 days after undergoing laser peripheral iridotomy. The patient had lost 10 lbs over the preceding 6 weeks and had a medical history significant for a previously excised melanoma of the left arm. During the course of investigations, the patient was referred to oncology for workup, ultimately leading to a diagnosis of metastatic melanoma. Visceral metastases were identified in the lungs, right anterior fourth rib, left femoral distal diaphysis and medial side of the right globe. The patient decompensated and di

The BElfast Retinal Tear and detachment Score (BERT Score) in vitreous haemorrhage.

OBJECTIVE: To establish if the BElfast Retinal Tear and detachment Score (BERT Score) can be used in triaging patients presenting with vitreous haemorrhage to allow safe differentiation between those with retinal tears and detachments, versus haemorrhagic posterior vitreous detachments. METHODS: Retrospective audit of 122 patients presenting to eye casualty with vitreous haemorrhage excluding trauma and vascular causes. Twenty-two patients were excluded from the study as they had no follow-up. The BERT Score was applied to the remaining 100 patients. RESULTS: Vitreous haemorrhages with a BER

Eyewash with balanced salt solution after intravitreal methotrexate injection in a case of vitreoretinal lymphoma: a simple but effective way to prevent ocular surface toxicity.

Intravitreal methotrexate injection (400 µg/0.1 mL) is the current mainstay for managing vitreoretinal lymphoma. Various complications associated with intravitreal methotrexate are cataract, keratopathy, maculopathy, sterile endophthalmitis, optic atrophy, vitreous haemorrhage, etc. The most common adverse effect of intravitreal methotrexate is keratopathy occurring in more than half of cases. The severity may range from diffuse punctate keratopathy to severe epitheliopathy leading to photophobia, pain, visual blurring, epiphora, etc. This may become a reason for reduced compliance with treatm

27‑Gauge vitrectomy vs. 25‑gauge vitrectomy in the management of proliferative diabetic retinopathy with preoperative intravitreal injection of conbercept.

Small-gauge vitrectomy has become popular due to its notable advantages, including less trauma, shortened convalescence and improved manoeuvrability. The aim of the present study was to compare the surgical outcomes of 27-gauge (27-G) vitrectomy with those of 25-gauge (25-G) vitrectomy in the management of proliferative diabetic retinopathy (PDR) with preoperative intravitreal injection of conbercept. The data of 48 consecutive patients with PDR (48 eyes) were retrospectively collected. The patients underwent conbercept intravitreal injection and pars plana vitrectomy with a 27-G group (23 eye

Twelve-month analysis of emergency argon laser retinopexy in an Irish tertiary hospital.

BACKGROUND: Retinal tears occur as a result of traction at sites of retinal and vitreous adhesion-this allows retrohyaloid fluid into the subretinal space. Prompt management is required to prevent progression to rhegmatogenous retinal detachment (RRD). AIMS: To identify the post-procedural outcomes following treatment of retinal tears with laser retinopexy in an emergency setting. METHODS: Retrospective review of all patients who underwent emergency slit-lamp laser retinopexy between January and December 2021 in Cork University Hospital, an Irish tertiary referral centre. RESULTS: A total o

Wound healing and postoperative management in paediatric patients following 27-Gauge Transconjunctival Sutureless Vitrectomy for vitreoretinal conditions.

Источник пометил публикацию как отозванную

The utilization of 27-G TSV, or 27-Gauge Transconjunctival Sutureless Vitrectomy, poses distinct difficulties in the context of paediatric patients, particularly those younger than 14 years old, on account of the dearth of exhaustive documentation concerning the efficacy and results of these operations. Therefore, this retrospective study was to evaluate the safety and efficacy of 27-G TSV in paediatric patients, with emphasis on management of intraoperative and postoperative complications and postoperative wound healing. A total of 54 eyes of 52 paediatric patients who underwent 27-G TSV at S

Prognostic factors for the development and progression of proliferative diabetic retinopathy in people with diabetic retinopathy.

BACKGROUND: Diabetic retinopathy (DR) is characterised by neurovascular degeneration as a result of chronic hyperglycaemia. Proliferative diabetic retinopathy (PDR) is the most serious complication of DR and can lead to total (central and peripheral) visual loss. PDR is characterised by the presence of abnormal new blood vessels, so-called "new vessels," at the optic disc (NVD) or elsewhere in the retina (NVE). PDR can progress to high-risk characteristics (HRC) PDR (HRC-PDR), which is defined by the presence of NVD more than one-fourth to one-third disc area in size plus vitreous haemorrhage

Does vitreous haemorrhage and calcification lead to increased risk of enucleation in advanced retinoblastoma?

PURPOSE: To explore whether varying degrees of vitreous haemorrhage (VH) and calcification act as risk factors for enucleation in patients with advanced retinoblastoma (RB). METHODS: Advanced RB was defined by the international classification of RB (Philadelphia version). Basic information for retinoblastoma patients diagnosed as groups D and E in our hospital between January 2017 and June 2022 was reviewed by logistics regression models. Additionally, a correlation analysis was performed, excluding variables with a VIF (variance inflation factor) >10 from the multivariate analysis. RESULTS:
