Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis of RCTs on Efficacy of Conventional vs. Emerging Treatments for Amblyopia.

Amblyopia affects 1-4% of the population and remains a leading cause of unilateral visual impairment, with adherence and residual deficits limiting outcomes of standard therapies. This systematic review and meta-analysis compared the effectiveness of conventional and emerging amblyopia treatments in children, adolescents, and adults with anisometropic, strabismic, or mixed amblyopia. Following PRISMA guidelines and PROSPERO registration (CRD420251123552), PubMed, Web of Science, and Scopus were searched up to 5 August 2025 for randomized controlled trials. Sixty-six trials (sample sizes 7-404)

Single-Operator Cancer Vision Goggles for Quantitative Near-Infrared Fluorescence-Guided Oncologic Surgery.

OBJECTIVE: Near-infrared fluorescence (NIRF) imaging systems often require multiple operators and lack standardized acquisition constraints, limiting reproducibility across users and sites. We present a single-operator, wearable Cancer Vision Goggles (CVG) platform for hands-free NIRF guidance while preserving a radiometrically faithful reference stream for quantitative analysis. METHODS: The head-mounted binocular CVG integrates synchronized visible/NIR cameras, real-time co-registration to an optical see-through display, green alignment lasers converging at a preset 50-cm distance to standa

Systematic review of virtual reality therapy in the treatment of visual dysfunction in children with ADHD and dyslexia.

Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and dyslexia are prevalent neurodevelopmental disorders that significantly impact educational and social functioning. Both conditions are frequently associated with comorbid visual dysfunction, which can further exacerbate learning and attentional difficulties. Virtual reality therapy (VRT) has emerged as a promising intervention for addressing visual impairments such as convergence insufficiency and binocular dysfunction in affected children. This systematic review evaluates the effectiveness of VRT in treating visual dysfunction in children wit

A Clinically Relevant Threshold of Impaired Contrast Sensitivity Among Older US Adults.

IMPORTANCE: Contrast sensitivity (CS) is a critical yet underused measure of visual function that reflects the ability to detect subtle differences in luminance between an object and its background. Although poor CS is associated with falls, cognitive decline, and reduced independence in older adults, existing thresholds lack functional relevance. OBJECTIVE: To identify a CS threshold associated with functional visual disability. DESIGN, SETTING, AND PARTICIPANTS: This longitudinal cohort study used data from rounds 12 (2022) and 13 (2023) of the National Health and Aging Trends Study (NHATS

Visual Outcomes After Mix-and-Match Implantation of Trifocal and Extended Depth-of-Focus Intraocular Lenses: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.

Background and Objectives: The use of presbyopia-correcting intraocular lenses (IOLs) has become an integral part of modern cataract surgery. Trifocal IOLs are designed to provide functional vision at multiple distances but may be associated with dysphotopsia and reduced contrast sensitivity. In contrast, extended depth-of-focus (EDOF) IOLs offer a smoother defocus profile and fewer photic phenomena; however, they often provide insufficient uncorrected near visual acuity. To overcome the limitations of each design, a mix-and-match implantation strategy, involving implantation of a trifocal IOL

Longitudinal Visual Field and Quality-of-Life Change in the Treatment for Advanced Glaucoma Study.

PURPOSE: Progressive visual field (VF) loss resulting from glaucoma affects quality of life (QoL). Although treatments aim to preserve vision, the extent to which slowing VF loss translates into QoL changes in advanced disease is not understood fully. We compare the 5-year rate of VF and QoL change and examined their correlation in the Treatment for Advanced Glaucoma Study. DESIGN: Multicenter randomized clinical trial (27 secondary care glaucoma departments in the UK). PARTICIPANTS: Adults (n = 453) with newly diagnosed advanced open-angle glaucoma in at least 1 eye were randomized to trabe

Simulation of an improved galilean telescope optical system for correction of moderate and high hyperopia.

BACKGROUND: Moderate and high hyperopia is a common clinical refractive error that severely affects distant and near visual functions. Traditional correction relies on high-power positive spherical lenses, which are prone to problems such as thick lens thickness, heavy weight, poor wearing comfort, and limited visual correction effect, resulting in low wearing compliance and reduced life quality of patients. Existing telescopic correction devices have the defects of large volume and narrow imaging field of view, which cannot meet the needs of daily clinical correction. This study aims to const
