Systematic three-site vs. classical single-site screening for Chlamydia trachomatis and Neisseria gonorrhoeae infections in non-sex worker women: the multicentric Sexually Infections Still Transmitted by Remote Sites (SIST'RS) study.

OBJECTIVES: Guidelines recommend extragenital screening for sexually transmitted infections in men having sex with men but not for women who do not report extravaginal intercourses. However, it has been suggested that among female commercial sex workers, limiting sexually transmitted infection screening to vaginal samples would miss a sizeable number of infections. No study exists for nonsex worker women. Therefore, our objective was to assess the potential benefit of systematically testing three anatomical sites (oral, anal, and vaginal) versus only vaginal testing in women attending free sex

Review of the Performance of Laboratory-Based Molecular Diagnostics for Chlamydia trachomatis and Neisseria gonorrhoeae.

BACKGROUND: Chlamydia trachomatis (CT) and Neisseria gonorrhoeae (NG) are the most commonly reported sexually transmitted infections (STIs) in the United States, and their accurate diagnosis is critical for preventing serious health outcomes. Nucleic acid amplification tests (NAATs) are still considered the gold standard for the laboratory diagnosis of chlamydia and gonorrhea due to their high sensitivity and specificity. Since the 2014 CDC laboratory recommendations, several key improvements to FDA-cleared NAATs have been made including expanded specimen types, technology, and process improve

[Urethritis-A practical update].

BACKGROUND: Penile urethritis is a common medical condition, usually caused by sexually transmitted pathogens such as Chlamydia trachomatis (CT), Neisseria gonorrhoeae (NG) or Mycoplasma genitalium (MG). Although the causative pathogens cannot be reliably distinguished based on the clinical presentation alone, symptom-oriented empirical antibiotic therapy is often administered in practical care. MATERIAL AND METHODS: This is a summary of the recommendations from the S3 guidelines on the management of male adolescents and adults with symptoms of urethritis. The development of the guidelines wa

Trends in Triple-Site Testing for Chlamydia and Gonorrhea in New York City: A Cross-Sectional Study Using Health Information Exchange Data.

BACKGROUND: Sexually transmitted infections pose a threat to public health and continue to rise in New York City despite reductions in other parts of the United States. Chlamydia and gonorrhea can infect multiple anatomic sites, including the urogenital tract, pharynx, and rectum. Guidelines recommend multisite testing for select populations, yet multisite testing is not routinely performed, limiting our understanding of trends in positivity and missed infections. METHODS: We conducted a retrospective cross-sectional study of patients who underwent triple-site testing for chlamydia and gonorr

A significant decrease in anogenital warts incidence following the implementation of a national human papillomavirus immunization program in Israel.

BACKGROUND: Israel's National Immunization Program (NIP) for human papillomavirus (HPV) began in 2013 for 13-year-old girls with the 2-valent vaccine (2vHPV), switched to the 4-valent vaccine (4vHPV) in 2014, expanded to a gender-neutral (GNV) program in 2015, and adopted the 9-valent vaccine (9vHPV) in 2019. Both 4v- and 9vHPV vaccines protect against HPV types 6 and 11, which cause over 95% of anogenital warts (AGW). This study examined the incidence of AGW following Israel's HPV-NIP. METHODS: This retrospective study used de-identified data from Maccabi Healthcare Services (MHS) to examine
