Outcomes of Bypass Surgery in Patients with Moyamoya Syndrome Secondary To Sickle Cell Disease: a Multicenter Study.

BACKGROUND: Moyamoya syndrome (MMS) associated with sickle cell disease (SCD) is a severe vasculopathy that significantly increases stroke risk. While cerebral revascularization is increasingly considered in this population, concerns about perioperative safety and long-term outcomes have limited its use in clinical practice. METHODS: We conducted a multicenter, retrospective cohort study of 553 patients with MMS who underwent surgical revascularization across 13 centers. Patients were grouped by SCD status (SCD-MMS vs. moyamoya disease (MMD)). Primary outcomes included perioperative stroke, p

Case Report: Relapsing systemic lupus erythematosus treated with dual rituximab and anifrolumab therapy.

While biologic monotherapy is commonly used in the management of moderate-to-severe systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), limited data exists regarding the efficacy and safety of dual biologic therapy in SLE. We report the case of a 42-year-old woman with a history of SLE complicated by Rowell Syndrome (RS) that was managed on anifrolumab and a recent diagnosis of moyamoya disease, who presented with new-onset lower extremity weakness. Laboratory testing was notable for active lupus serologies, and magnetic resonance angiography (MRA) findings were consistent with worsening moyamoya syndrome. Gi

Familial Moyamoya disease associated with dual RNF213 variants (R4810K and T1727M): A case report and genetic investigation.

BACKGROUND: Moyamoya disease (MMD) is a progressive cerebrovascular disorder characterized by stenosis or occlusion of the distal internal carotid arteries, frequently observed in East Asian populations. The RNF213 R4810K variant is a well-established susceptibility factor for MMD; however, the pathogenic significance of other rare variants, such as T1727M, remains largely undefined. The co-occurrence and potential synergistic effects of dual RNF213 variants have rarely been documented. METHODS: We investigated a 3-generation family consisting of 17 members following the diagnosis of MMD in t

Deep learning reconstruction enhances 1.5T MR angiography beyond 3T in vascular visualization for Moyamoya disease.

PURPOSE: Deep learning reconstruction (DLR) is increasingly being applied to clinical magnetic resonance angiography (MRA); however, its evaluation across different magnetic field strengths in moyamoya disease is limited. This study assessed whether DLR affects visualization of stenotic arteries and collateral moyamoya vessels (MMVs). MATERIALS AND METHODS: Thirty-two patients (mean age, 40 years; male/female, 9/23) with suspected or confirmed moyamoya disease between 2015 and 2024 were retrospectively selected. All patients underwent time-of-flight MRA using 1.5T and 3T scanners within a 400-

Identification and validation of CARS1 p.E712V and NF1 p.Q2002X in sporadic Moyamoya disease across 30 trio pedigrees.

Moyamoya disease (MMD) is a progressive cerebrovascular disorder with intracranial arterial stenosis and collateralization. Over 70% of sporadic cases lack known genetic drivers; RNF213 variants explain only 23% of Chinese cases, highlighting unmet diagnostic and therapeutic needs. Trio-based whole-exome sequencing (WES) of 126 Chinese sporadic MMD patients (30 pediatric-parent trios) underwent cross-platform validation, cohort screening (n = 268), and functional analysis in human brain microvascular endothelial cells (HBMECs). Variants were prioritized by population frequency, pathogenicity,
