BACKGROUND: Prognosis after vertebrobasilar stenting (VBS) may differ from that after carotid artery stenting (CAS). Here, we directly compared the incidence and predictors of in-stent restenosis and stented-territory infarction after VBS and compared them with those of CAS.
METHODS: We enrolled patients who underwent VBS or CAS. Clinical variables and procedure-related factors were obtained. During the 3 years of follow-up, in-stent restenosis and infarction were investigated in each group. In-stent restenosis was defined as reduction in the lumen diameter > 50% compared with that after sten

AIMS: Because re-establishment of spontaneous circulation (ROSC) in patients with cardiac arrest is frequently not achieved by conventional cardiopulmonary resuscitation (C-CPR), selected patients may undergo resuscitation with extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (E-CPR). We compared angiographic features and percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) between patients undergoing E-CPR and those with ROSC after C-CPR.
METHODS AND RESULTS: Forty-nine consecutive E-CPR patients undergoing immediate coronary angiography admitted between August 2013 and August 2022 were matched to 49 patients with R

BACKGROUND: Despite the evolution of stent technology, there is a non-negligible risk of in-stent restenosis (ISR) after Percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). Large-scale registry data on the prevalence and clinical management of ISR is lacking.
METHODS: The aim was to describe the epidemiology and management of patients with ≥1 ISR lesions treated with PCI (ISR PCI). Data on characteristics, management and clinical outcomes were analyzed for patients undergoing ISR PCI in the France-PCI all-comers registry.
RESULTS: Between January 2014 and December 2018, 31,892 lesions were treated in

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: Coronary artery disease (CAD) is a major cause of death worldwide. Revascularization via stent placement or coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) are standard treatments for CAD. Despite a high success rate, these approaches are associated with long-term failure due to restenosis. Risk factors associated with restenosis were investigated using a case-control association study design.
METHODS: Five thousand two hundred and forty-two patients were enrolled in this study and were assigned as follows: Stenosis Group: 3570 patients with CAD >50% without a prior stent or

PURPOSE: To investigate the effect of using photon-counting detector (PCD)-CT with ultra-high resolution (UHR) on stenosis quantification accuracy and blooming artifacts from low to high heart rates in a dynamic motion phantom.
METHOD: Two vessel phantoms (diameter: 4 mm) containing solid calcified lesions (25%, 50% stenoses), filled with different concentrations of iodine, inside an anthropomorphic thorax phantom attached to a coronary motion simulator were used. Scanning was performed on a PCD-CT system using an ECG-gated mode at UHR and standard resolution (SR) (0.2, 0.6 mm slice thickness

OBJECTIVES: The aim of this study was to evaluate the high-helical pitch, multienergy (ME) scanning mode of a clinical dual-source photon-counting detector (PCD) computed tomography (CT) and the benefit of virtual monoenergetic images (VMIs) for low-contrast-dose coronary CT angiography (CTA).
MATERIALS AND METHODS: High-pitch (3.2) ME coronary CTA was performed in PCD-CT in 27 patients using low contrast dose (30 mL of iohexol 350 mg/mL) and in 26 patients at routine contrast dose (60 mL). Low-energy-threshold 120 kV images (also known as T3D images) and 50 kiloelectron volts (50 keV) and 10

BACKGROUND: Coronary microvascular dysfunction is a clinically significant component of ischemic heart disease. There can be heterogenous patterns of coronary microvascular dysfunction defined by invasive physiologic indexes such as coronary flow reserve (CFR) and index of microcirculatory resistance (IMR). We sought to compare the prognosis of coronary microvascular dysfunction according to different patterns of CFR and IMR.
METHODS: The current study included 375 consecutive patients undergoing invasive physiologic assessment for suspected stable ischemic heart disease and intermediate but

BACKGROUND: The clinical application of coronary MR angiography (MRA) remains limited due to its long acquisition time and often unsatisfactory image quality. A compressed sensing artificial intelligence (CSAI) framework was recently introduced to overcome these limitations, but its feasibility in coronary MRA is unknown.
PURPOSE: To evaluate the diagnostic performance of noncontrast-enhanced coronary MRA with CSAI in patients with suspected coronary artery disease (CAD).
STUDY TYPE: Prospective observational study.

BACKGROUND: The optimal revascularization strategy for isolated left anterior descending (LAD) coronary artery lesion between minimally invasive direct coronary artery bypass (MIDCAB) and percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) remains controversial. This updated meta-analysis aims to compare the long- and short-term outcomes of MIDCAB versus PCI for patients with isolated LAD coronary artery lesions.
METHODS: The Pubmed, Web of Science, and Cochrane databases were searched for retrieving potential publications from 2002 to 2022. The primary outcome was long-term survival. Secondary outcomes

BACKGROUND: When patients with prior coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) undergo percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI), targeting the native vessel is preferred. Studies informing such recommendations are based predominantly on saphenous vein graft (SVG) PCI. There are few data regarding arterial graft intervention, particularly to a radial artery (RA) graft.
OBJECTIVES: The aim of this study was to report the characteristics of arterial graft stenoses and evaluate the feasibility of RA PCI.
METHODS: This study included 2,780 consecutive patients with prior CABG undergoing PCI between

INTRODUCTION: Coronary artery bypass graft surgery (CABG) is an intervention in patients with extensive obstructive coronary artery disease diagnosed with invasive coronary angiography. Here we present and test a novel application of non-invasive computational assessment of coronary hemodynamics before and after bypass grafting.
METHODS AND RESULTS: We tested the computational CABG platform in n = 2 post-CABG patients. The computationally calculated fractional flow reserve showed high agreement with the angiography-based fractional flow reserve. Furthermore, we performed multiscale computatio

PURPOSE: An important aspect in the prevention and treatment of coronary artery disease is the functional evaluation of narrowed blood vessels. Medical image-based Computational Fluid Dynamic methods are currently increasingly being used in the clinical setting for flow studies of cardio vascular system. The aim of our study was to confirm the feasibility and functionality of a non-invasive computational method providing information about hemodynamic significance of coronary stenosis.
METHODS: A comparative method was used to simulate the flow energy losses in real (stenotic) and reconstructe

BACKGROUND: The rupture of atherosclerotic plaque contributes significantly to cardiovascular disease. Plasma concentrations of bilirubin-a byproduct of heme catabolism-inversely associate with risk of cardiovascular disease, although the link between bilirubin and atherosclerosis remains unclear.
METHODS: To assess the role of bilirubin in atherosclerotic plaque stability, we crossed Bvra-/- with Apoe-/- mice and used the tandem stenosis model of plaque instability. Human coronary arteries were obtained from heart transplant recipients. Analysis of bile pigments, heme metabolism, and proteom

OBJECTIVE: Validation studies of the 2019 European Society of Cardiology pretest probability model (ESC-PTP) for coronary artery disease (CAD) report that 35%-40% of patients have low pretest probability (ESC-PTP 5% to <15%). Acoustic detection of coronary stenoses could potentially improve clinical likelihood stratification. Aims were to (1) investigate the diagnostic performance of an acoustic-based CAD score and (2) study the reclassification potential of a dual likelihood strategy by the ESC-PTP and a CAD score.
