Venous interventions reduce the risk of lymphedema in chronic venous insufficiency.

INTRODUCTION: Chronic venous insufficiency (CVI) significantly increases the risk of developing secondary lymphedema and related infections. This study tested the hypothesis that lower-extremity venous procedures can reduce the 5-year incidence of lymphedema in adults with CVI. METHODS: A multicenter retrospective cohort study was conducted using the TriNetX Research Network. Adults (⩾ 18 years) diagnosed with CVI between Jan 1, 2005, and Jan 1, 2020, were identified and followed for at least 5 years. Patients were stratified into those undergoing venous procedures, including saphenous vein l

Understanding Patient Expectations in Goldilocks-Based Breast Reconstruction: A Qualitative Study Using the Ottawa Decision Support Framework.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Goldilocks-based breast reconstruction (GBR) offers an autologous, implant-free option for patients seeking breast mound restoration after mastectomy. It is particularly suited for patients with macromastia, ptosis, or significant comorbidities. Despite its growing adoption, limited studies have examined patient understanding and expectations. METHODS: We interviewed patients who underwent GBR after mastectomy within our institution. Demographic, oncologic, and perioperative data were collected. Semi-structured interviews were conducted to explore patient understand

Mouse Tail Models for Surgical Lymphedema Induction-A Comprehensive Systematic Review and Quality Assessment.

Lymphedema remains a significant clinical and research challenge, requiring reliable experimental models to investigate its underlying mechanisms and evaluate potential therapies. Among available options, the surgical mouse tail model is widely used due to its simplicity, reproducibility, and low cost. While prior reviews have examined surgical lymphedema models across species, this is the first systematic review dedicated exclusively to the mouse tail model, providing a comprehensive evaluation of its application in practice and a formal assessment of its methodological reporting quality. We

Swallowing Outcomes Following Early Treatment of Head and Neck Cancer-Related Lymphedema.

OBJECTIVE(S): Head and neck cancer-related lymphedema (HNCRL) is a common, chronic consequence of head and neck cancer (HNC) treatment that contributes to progressive fibrosis, functional impairment, and reduced quality of life. Although early intervention is advocated, its association with longitudinal swallow outcomes remains poorly understood. This study evaluated whether early HNCRL treatment was associated with improved objective and patient-reported swallowing outcomes following radiation treatment (RT) and/or chemoradiation (CRT). METHODS: Medical records from 110 patients enrolled in

Perioperative Outcomes of the Modified Oncoplastic Lift and Lymphatic Excision and Reconstruction (MOLLER) Technique in Breast Surgery.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Oncoplastic breast surgery integrates oncologic resection with reconstructive techniques to optimize both tumor control and aesthetic outcomes. The Modified Oncoplastic Lift and Lymphatic Excision and Reconstruction (MOLLER) technique is a reconstructive approach incorporating lymphatic preservation principles while aiming to preserve breast contour. However, perioperative outcomes remain incompletely characterized. METHODS: A single-center retrospective cohort study included adult women undergoing partial mastectomy or lumpectomy for malignant or benign breast cond

Manual lymphatic drainage reduces tissue sodium and self-reported pain in women with lipedema: a quantitative MRI study.

BACKGROUND: Lipedema is a chronic adipose tissue disorder characterized by a disproportionate accumulation of painful subcutaneous fat on the extremities. Manual lymphatic drainage (MLD) is routinely used as therapeutic intervention, but its immediate physiological effects remain unclear. We evaluated the immediate impact of MLD on tissue composition in Lipedema using multiparametric Magnetic-resonance-imaging (MRI). MATERIALS AND METHODS: Fifteen women with Lipedema (5 women each for stages I/II/III; median age 43.7 [20.4-68.8] years), thirteen with lower-limb lymphedema (3/5/5 women for sta

Psychological determinants of pain, fatigue, and symptom burden in breast cancer survivorship.

Breast cancer survivors frequently experience persistent pain, cancer-related fatigue, and interconnected symptom clusters that impair quality of life, functional status, and treatment adherence. Psychological factors, including pain catastrophizing, anxiety, depression, fear-avoidance behaviors, and maladaptive cognitive appraisals, are associated with the amplification and maintenance of these symptoms through proposed mechanisms involving central sensitization, HPA axis dysregulation, inflammatory signaling, and behavioral deconditioning. This narrative overview, rather than a systematic re

Chylous Ascites: A Rare Chronic Case.

Chylous ascites (CA) is an uncommon form of ascites resulting from disruption or obstruction of the lymphatic system. Although cirrhosis and malignancy account for many cases in Western countries, management can be particularly challenging when the underlying etiology remains uncertain. We present the case of a 57-year-old man with chronic CA, longstanding unilateral right-sided lymphedema reportedly present since birth, and a prolonged clinical course spanning several years. Despite conservative management with diuretics, dietary modification, and repeated therapeutic paracenteses, the patien
