Longitudinal clinical proteomics reveals pneumonia type-specific protein biomarkers and autoantibodies.

Community-acquired pneumonia is a major cause of morbidity and mortality globally. Specific molecular endotypes are currently not well defined and different viral or bacterial pathogens may trigger specific host responses and pathogenic mechanisms. We performed longitudinal proteomic profiling of bronchoalveolar lavage fluid and plasma from bacterial, influenza and SARS-COV-2 driven pneumonia. Our analysis revealed highly pneumonia type specific proteomic signatures, including COVID-19 specific antibodies locally produced in the lung. These antibodies showed biased immunoglobulin V-domain usag

Evaluated the immune efficacy of a bivalent inactivated vaccine against post-weaning multisystemic wasting syndrome and mycoplasmal pneumonia of swine.

PMWS and MPS are severe respiratory diseases in piglets, causing developmental disorders and significant economic losses. The conventional approach to control these diseases relies on separate immunization with individual vaccines, which is time-consuming, labor-intensive, and may induce stress reactions. The aim of this study was to evaluate the immune efficacy of a bivalent inactivated vaccine containing the clinically isolated Mhp Q strain and purified PCV2 Cap VLPs. Thirty-five Changbai piglets were randomly divided into seven groups (n = 5, per group): A (bivalent inactivated vaccine with

"In vitro evaluation of sulbactam combination therapies for Acinetobacter baumannii".

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Acinetobacter baumannii, a leading cause of hospital-acquired infections in critically ill patients, is increasingly resistant to carbapenems, leading WHO to designate carbapenem-resistant Acinetobacter baumannii (CRAB) as a critical priority pathogen. While the 2024 IDSA guidelines recommend sulbactam-based regimens as the cornerstone of therapy, high-dose sulbactam is effective only against isolates with MICs up to 16-32 μg/mL. This study aimed to describe the sulbactam MIC distribution and to evaluate MIC reduction and synergy when combined with β-lactam antibioti

Evaluation of the clinical impact of de-escalated versus non-de-escalated antibiotics for the treatment of methicillin-susceptible staphylococcus aureus pneumonia in critically ill patients admitted to intensive care units: a multicenter cohort study.

BACKGROUND: Critically ill patients are at a higher risk of developing infections and related complications, which can lead to death. Each additional day of antipseudomonal β-lactam use increases the risk of resistance; therefore, de-escalation is highly recommended to improve antibiotic use. To our knowledge, there are limited studies that have evaluated the clinical impact of de-escalation in critically ill patients with proven Methicillin-Susceptible Staphylococcus aureus (MSSA) pneumonia alone. Therefore, our study aimed to assess the clinical impact of the de-escalation strategy compared

Fatal coinfection by Mycobacterium fortuitum and Epicoccum sp. with concurrent severe coccidial enteritis in an olive ridley sea turtle (Lepidochelys olivacea).

Sea turtles are susceptible to opportunistic infections, particularly when debilitated, injured, or exposed to environmental stressors. Although nontuberculous mycobacteria are increasingly recognized as emerging pathogens in marine wildlife, documented cases in sea turtles remain limited, and coinfections involving mycobacteria and uncommon environmental fungi are rarely reported. Here, we describe a fatal multisystemic disease involving Mycobacterium fortuitum infection, Epicoccum sp.-associated coelomitis, and severe coccidial enteritis in an adult olive ridley sea turtle (Lepidochelys oliv
