Otorhinolaryngological manifestations of systemic autoimmune and autoinflammatory diseases: a comprehensive review.

In many autoimmune and autoinflammatory diseases, the head and neck are the first sites of symptom manifestation. Recognizing these early signs is crucial to prevent diagnostic delays and fatal consequences. This review addresses: (1) specific otorhinolaryngological (ENT) manifestations indicating systemic diseases (2), evidence for differentiating these from isolated ENT disorders, and (3) the multidisciplinary role in patient management. A comprehensive narrative literature review was conducted utilizing established scientific databases, including PubMed/Medline, Scopus, Web of Science, and

Integrated sensory evaluation and feature-based molecular networking elucidate flavor improvement and associated metabolites in dark tea fermented by Eurotium cristatum and Bacillus coagulans.

Secondary microbial fermentation plays a crucial role in improving dark tea flavor, yet how microorganisms regulate flavor formation and transformation remains unclear. This study proposes integrating human/electronic tongue sensory evaluation with feature-based molecular networking (FBMN) to address this issue. Sensory evaluation showed that Eurotium cristatum fermentation improved the flavor of Liubao tea by increasing sweetness and reducing bitterness, whereas Bacillus coagulans enhanced its aged flavor. FBMN identified 358 compounds, including ten novel ethyl-pyrrolidinone-substituted flav

Generative Artificial Intelligence in Periodontology: Application of OpenAI Models for the Classification of Periodontitis and Risk Assessment in Patients Undergoing Supportive Periodontal Care.

Background/Objectives: Periodontitis is a chronic, inflammatory disease of teeth-supporting tissues and is highly prevalent worldwide. The current classification of periodontal diseases was introduced by the 2017 AAP/EFP World Workshop on the Classification of Periodontal and Peri-Implant Diseases and Conditions. The classification is primarily based on the staging and grading of periodontitis. Periodontal Risk Assessment (PRA), introduced by Lang and Tonetti, is an established tool for estimating the risk of periodontitis progression in patients undergoing supportive periodontal care. Salivary miR-21 and miR-31 in Oral Squamous Cell Carcinoma: Molecular Pathogenesis, Diagnostic Significance, and Translation to Isothermal RPA.

Oral Squamous Cell Carcinoma (OSCC) is often diagnosed at advanced stages despite the oral cavity's anatomical accessibility, highlighting the need for molecular adjuncts that can identify disease-associated changes before overt morphological progression. This review evaluates the biological roles and salivary diagnostic potential of microRNA-21 (miR-21) and miR-31, two miRNAs repeatedly associated with OSCC pathogenesis and progression. We examine current clinical evidence supporting their use as salivary biomarkers and discuss major sources of methodological variability, including difference

Survival Outcomes of Post-Induction Treatment Strategies in Patients With Partial Response Hypopharyngeal Squamous Cell Carcinoma: A Propensity Score-Weighted Analysis.

BACKGROUND: Most patients with hypopharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma (HPSCC) achieve partial response (PR) after induction chemotherapy. However, optimal post-induction management remains controversial. We compared survival outcomes of post-induction strategies for PR-HPSCC, with emphasis on advanced post-induction tumor stage (ycT) using inverse probability of treatment weighting (IPTW-ATO) to mitigate confounding by indication. METHODS: This retrospective study included 149 patients with PR-HPSCC after induction chemotherapy who subsequently received surgery-based therapy (SBT; n = 71) or

Ratiometric fluorescence probe based on lipase coated Au NCs covalently linked to FITC for smartphone-integrated dual-mode detection of paraquat.

The use of paraquat (PQ) poses significant environmental and health risks, necessitating the development of rapid and sensitive detection methods. Herein, a novel ratiometric fluorescent probe, FITC-Lip-Au NCs, was constructed by covalently linking fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC) to Lip-Au NCs prepared using lipase (Lip) as a pioneering protein template for the selective and visual detection of PQ. Upon PQ interaction, FITC-Lip-Au NCs showed electrostatic interaction-assisted dynamic quenching at 650 nm and a constant signal at 520 nm, enabling a LOD of 15 nM and a linear range of 0.025-45 μ

Nasopharyngeal carcinoma burden in the United States and worldwide, 1990 to 2023: A pairwise analysis with mortality projections to 2050.

Nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) is a rare but geographically concentrated malignancy. Long-term comparative analyses of NPC trends between the United States and global populations, particularly by sex, are limited. Using Global Burden of Disease 2023 data, we analyzed temporal trends in NPC incidence, prevalence, and mortality from 1990 to 2023 in the United States and worldwide. Age-standardized rates per 100,000 population were calculated. Joinpoint regression estimated annual percent changes (APCs) and average annual percent change (AAPC) with 95% confidence intervals.
