Orthodontically Induced External Root Resorption: A Finite Element Analysis.

Background/Objectives: This finite element analysis (FEA) assessed stress distribution in the tooth and dentin within an intact periodontium under 4 N of force and five orthodontic movements (intrusion, extrusion, rotation, tipping, and translation), using four failure criteria commonly used in numerical dental studies. Secondly, differences between brittle- and ductile-like failure criteria were found, and the most accurate criterion was determined. Additionally, movements more prone to inducing external orthodontic root resorption were assessed. Methods: Using nine 3D models of the second lo

TRPV4 mediates macrophage polarization involved in inflammatory root resorption induced by mechanical pressure.

In clinical orthodontic treatment, mechanical pressure applied to the tooth root triggers orthodontically induced inflammatory root resorption (OIIRR). An elevated M1/M2 macrophage polarization ratio is a key factor in OIIRR on the pressure side. However, the pathways through which macrophages perceive mechanical pressure stimuli remain unclear. The transient receptor potential vanilloid 4 channel, which is upregulated on the pressure side during orthodontic treatment, is a mechanically sensitive calcium ion channel protein that may play a crucial role in orthodontic periodontal mechanical sig

Bone Substitutes in Alveolar Ridge Augmentation: A Narrative Literature Review.

Adequate alveolar bone volume is a prerequisite for predictable and long-term success in dental implant therapy. Physiological post-extraction remodeling frequently results in horizontal and vertical ridge deficiencies, which may compromise optimal implant placement. Guided bone regeneration (GBR) has become a cornerstone procedure in implant dentistry, with clinical outcomes largely influenced by the biological and mechanical characteristics of grafting materials. Different bone grafts and their combinations are currently clinically applicable, each exhibiting distinct osteogenic, osteoinduct

Evaluation and Comparison of Crestal Bone Loss Around Dental Implants Placed Using Conventional Drilling, Bone Expansion, and Ridge Split Techniques: An In Vivo Study.

INTRODUCTION: Tooth loss is often followed by alveolar ridge resorption, which may compromise implant placement and long-term stability. Different implant site preparation techniques, such as conventional drilling, bone expansion, and ridge split procedures, are used to manage varying ridge conditions. These techniques may influence peri-implant bone remodeling in different ways. This study aimed to evaluate and compare crestal bone loss around dental implants placed using conventional drilling, bone expansion, and ridge split techniques. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This prospective clinical compa

CBCT assessment of crestal bone changes and stability: Immediate versus delayed implant placement in grafted sites.

Alveolar ridge resorption after tooth extraction complicates optimal implant positioning and increases grafting requirements. Therefore, it is of interest to compare immediate versus delayed implant placement in 60 grafted extraction sites using Cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) and resonance frequency analysis. Delayed placement preserved more buccal bone (-0.42±0.28 mm loss) than immediate placement (-0.89±0.34 mm, p<0.001), with comparable mesial/distal changes. Both achieved equivalent implant stability, integration and survival after 12 months. Delayed placement advances socket managem

The Fate of Apically Extruded Sealers: Radiographical Disappearance or Biological Integration? A Narrative Review.

OBJECTIVE: Over the past 2 decades, several novel materials have been introduced into endodontic practice, specifically designed to be bioactive and biointeractive with apical bone tissues. However, despite their widespread adoption, there remains limited consensus on the biological consequences of accidental apical extrusion, particularly when premixed bioceramic sealers are used. This review aims to analyse both the immediate and long-term effects of apical extrusion of new bioactive root canal sealers compared to traditional bioinert obturation materials. METHODS: Open search strategy was

Micro-CT Assessment of Hydraulic Calcium Silicate Cements for Perforating Internal Resorption in 3D-printed Tooth Replicas at Different Root Thirds: An In Vitro Study.

INTRODUCTION: Effective repair of perforating internal resorption (PIR) requires adequate defect filling; however, the influence of defect location on the filling ability of hydraulic calcium silicate cements (HCSCs) remains unclear. This micro-computed tomography (micro-CT) study evaluated Bio-C Repair (BCR), Biodentine (BD), and white MTA-Angelus (WMTA) in three dimensional-printed tooth replicas with PIR defects in different root thirds. The null hypothesis was that material performance would not differ according to defect location. METHODS: A maxillary central incisor was instrumented to
