Salivary Extracellular Vesicle Proteome as a Molecular Bridge Between Periodontitis and Neurodegeneration: Mechanisms, Biomarkers, and Therapeutic Opportunities.

Periodontitis is a chronic inflammatory condition associated with systemic inflammation and an increased risk of neurodegenerative disorders. Salivary extracellular vesicles (EVs) carry molecular cargo in an enclosed form and could serve as a non-invasive platform to explore communication between the oral system and the brain. The review analyzes the current evidence on salivary EV proteomes, their mechanistic links to neurodegeneration, and their biomarker potential. This is a narrative review, and PRISMA-2020 reporting was used as a transparency tool only. The following keywords were used to

Neutrophil-derived oncostatin m contributes to endothelial cell dysfunction during Treponema denticola interaction.

Periodontitis (PD) is a common chronic inflammatory condition and a risk factor for cardiovascular diseases (CVD), yet underlying linking mechanisms remain unclear. The cytokine Oncostatin M(OSM) is elevated in both PD and CVD and has emerged as a potential mediator linking oral inflammation to vascular dysfunction. Neutrophils represent a prominent source of OSM during PD and OSM production is elevated by the periodontal pathobiont Treponema denticola (Td). This study investigated the role of exogenous and neutrophil-derived OSM in endothelial cell (EC) dysfunction and the contribution of het

Oral Health and Risk of Liver Cancer: Evidence from Pooled and Meta-Analyses.

BACKGROUND: Poor oral health, including periodontal disease and tooth loss, is linked to systemic inflammation and oral microbial dysbiosis, which may promote liver carcinogenesis through the oral-gut-liver axis. However, epidemiologic evidence on oral health and liver cancer risk remains inconsistent. We examined these associations in three prospective US cohorts and conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis of prospective studies. METHODS: We pooled data from the Health Professionals Follow-Up Study, Nurses' Health Study, and Women's Health Initiative (230,915 participants, 198 liver

Large-Mesopore Covalent Organic Framework Nanoparticles for Small Interfering RNA Delivery toward Cancer Immunotherapy.

Small interfering RNA (siRNA) offers a promising modality for tumor immunotherapy through a precise gene-silencing mechanism, whereas its efficient loading and in vivo delivery rely on specialized carriers because of its polyanionic nature. Porous nanomaterials represent attractive platforms for designing such carriers. However, constructing biocompatible porous organic materials for efficient siRNA loading and in vivo delivery is challenging because structurally stable organic nanoparticles (NPs) with abundant, ordered, and large mesopores have rarely been reported. Herein, a linker-design st

Papillary Coronal Anchorage Technique for Periodontal Reconstruction of the Infrabony Defect and Interdental Papilla: A Case Report.

Esthetic issues and phonetic disturbances frequently occur after periodontal regeneration of the anterior teeth, even if treatment is supposed to be successful. Conventional regenerative techniques predominantly target infrabony defects and often inadequately address the loss of the interdental papilla. This study introduces the papillary coronal anchorage technique, a novel modified tunnel surgical procedure, to facilitate reconstruction of the interdental papilla. This method allows for coronal movement of the entire interdental papilla, without incisions at the papilla, to facilitate primar

The Role of Keratinized Mucosa in Peri-implant Tissue Stability After Treatment of Peri-implantitis: Clinical and Radiographic Outcomes of a Prospective Cohort Study After 3 Years.

This study prospectively evaluated the effect of keratinized mucosa (KM) on the healing of periimplant tissues after resective surgical therapy for peri-implantitis. It addressed the question of whether the absence of KM has a negative effect on peri-implant tissue stability after treatment. Patients referred to a private practice for peri-implantitis treatment were surgically treated with resective flap surgery and implantoplasty. They were followed for 3 years. Measurements at the implant level included presence of plaque, bleeding on probing, probing pocket depth, radiographically visible b

Bone Regeneration Following Implantoplasty: A Retrospective Cohort Study with Long-Term Radiographic Assessment.

Implantoplasty involves mechanically modifying the exposed implant surface by removing macro- and microstructures and is typically considered a resective approach. The potential for bone regen-eration with implantoplasty alone has not yet been studied. This research aimed to evaluate long-term changes in peri-implant bone levels without using regenerative materials. A total of 56 patients (70 implants) were included in the study and were followed for up to 10 years, with a mean observa-tion time of 59 months (~5 years). The implants were evaluated retrospectively through radiograph-ic and clin
