PURPOSE: Dental caries and malocclusion are prevalent in children and frequently coexist. Whether malocclusion severity is independently associated with elevated caries risk, remains poorly characterised, particularly in Saudi Arabia. The aim was to examine whether malocclusion severity in the primary dentition is independently associated with caries risk level in Saudi preschool children.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: A single-centre cross-sectional survey was conducted at Qassim University, enrolling 250 Saudi children aged 3-6 years with complete primary dentitions. Malocclusion severity was grad

OBJECTIVES: Epidermolysis bullosa (EB) is a rare genetic disease characterized by skin and mucosal fragility caused by pathogenic variants in structural protein genes. Malocclusions have been previously described in patients with EB, mainly in case reports, with no cohort studies characterizing dentofacial characteristics across all EB types. This study aims to describe and compare the dentofacial characteristics of patients with EB across all types in a nationally representative cohort.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: A cross-sectional study examined 101 patients with genetically confirmed EB diagnosi

This case report discusses the genetic influence and treatment of class III malocclusion in identical twin sisters, in their early 20s, who presented with mandibular prognathism. Both exhibited concave profiles with hypodivergent growth patterns, but Sister A had a more pronounced concavity. Diagnosis revealed skeletal class III malocclusion with mandibular prognathism and negative overjet (9 mm in Sister A, 6 mm in Sister B). Treatment involved pre-surgical orthodontics, bilateral sagittal split osteotomy (BSSO) with mandibular setbacks (7 mm for Sister A, 5 mm for Sister B), followed by post

Mechanical orthodontic treatment is regarded as a classical strategy for directional tooth movement in confront of malocclusion. However, prolonged remodeling period and adverse complication risks, which are mainly ascribed to inadequate sensation of bio-mechanical cues, predominantly restrict orthodontic clinical outcomes. This study demonstrates that construction of biophysical static magnetic fields (SMFs) is highly involved in accelerated tooth movement and bone remodeling in manners dependent on amplification of mechanical sensing. The arrayed magnetic orthodontic accelerator (AMOA) with

Skeletal diagnosis and upper-airway health should be the foundation of risk assessment for the interdisciplinary patient, as the diagnosis impacts treatment planning and outcomes. Currently, there is an epidemic of dental arch deficiencies with multifactorial etiologies that contribute to dentofacial disharmony malocclusions. Assessing each dimension of the periodontal phenotype in the context of the planned intervention, termed phenotype-driven treatment planning (PDTP; as outlined in Part I of this series), offers an opportunity to evolve our treatment-planning concepts and allows for the se

Skeletal Class III malocclusions are frequently associated with craniosynostosis syndromes, resulting in distinctive facial and dental anomalies. Among these, Crouzon syndrome is characterised by mutations in the FGFR2 gene, leading to premature fusion of the cranial vault, cranial base, orbital and maxillary sutures. The phenotypic expression of this congenital condition varies according to the timing and pattern of sutural fusion. This report details the clinical features and management of a 16-year-old male patient presenting with moderate skeletal Class III malocclusion as a manifestation

INTRODUCTION: Improvement in facial and dental esthetics is a motivator for orthodontic treatment. An update in the preferences of clinicians and patients is necessary because beauty standards are constantly evolving and extraction and nonextraction decisions impact soft tissue and incisor position. This study aimed to update facial profile and incisor inclination preferences among orthodontists (ORs), general dentists (GPs), and laypeople (LPs) and correlate these preferences with objective soft tissue and incisor changes.
METHODS: This retrospective study used discriminant analysis to ident

BACKGROUND: Skeletal Class III malocclusion is a severe dentofacial deformity that often requires surgical correction, but the associated risks have increased interest in non-surgical alternatives. The multiloop edgewise archwire (MEAW) technique has been used as a conservative option. The aim of this study was to investigate the dentoskeletal changes associated with the MEAW technique in treating skeletal Class III malocclusion, with a particular focus on improvements in anteroposterior bimaxillary relationships and comparison with surgical outcomes.
METHODS: This retrospective study include
