A Stepwise Integrative Approach to Managing a Refractory Recurrent Cervical Sialocele in a Dog.

Recurrent canine cervical sialocele is most often caused by incomplete excision of the mandibular-sublingual gland complex, leading to anatomical distortion and concealment of residual tissue. This case describes the multimodal management of a repeatedly recurrent cervical sialocele in a young, small-breed dog following multiple previous revision surgeries. A stepwise bridging strategy was adopted before definitive salvage surgery. Oral phenobarbital was instituted, resulting in partial reduction in fluid accumulation and improved comfort. Ultrasound-guided intracavitary sclerotherapy with OK-

Large Pleomorphic Adenoma of The Upper Lip in a Middle-Aged Woman With Facial Deformity, Tooth Displacement, and Bone Loss: Uncommon Clinical Presentation of a Benign Tumor.

Pleomorphic adenoma (PA) is the most common benign neoplasm of the salivary glands, occurring in both major and minor glands, with a predilection for the intraoral palate. Its presentation in the upper lip is rare and, when large, may result in facial deformity, alveolar bone resorption, and tooth displacement, especially in long-standing lesions. Clinically, PA presents as a solid, painless, slow-growing, and well-circumscribed mass, which may cause functional morbidity depending on its size and location. The differential diagnosis includes canalicular adenoma, other benign minor salivary gla

Different Diode Laser Approaches in the Treatment of Oral Mucocele: Report of Two Cases.

OBJECTIVE: To describe and compare two different diode laser approaches in the management of oral mucoceles of the lower lip. CASE PRESENTATION: Two patients presented with recurrent swellings of the lower lip, clinically diagnosed as mucoceles. Both lesions measured approximately 8-9 mm and had been present for several months, with repeated episodes of rupture and recurrence. In Case 1, a 40-year-old woman underwent complete excision using a diode laser. In Case 2, a young adult received a conservative diode laser technique involving removal of the cyst roof and laser ablation of the base.

Deroofing and Dye-Assisted Laser Ablation (Mu-DADyLA) for Oral Mucocele: A Surgical Technique for the Management of Oral Mucocele.

Oral mucoceles are common minor salivary gland lesions usually treated with excision, but associated with bleeding, suturing, postoperative discomfort, and delayed healing. Mucocele deroofing and dye-assisted laser ablation (Mu-DADyLA) is a hybrid technique designed to combine tissue preservation for pathologic diagnosis with the hemostatic and biologic advantages of diode laser surgery. After laser excision of the cyst dome, the lesion base is stained with toluidine blue and selectively vaporized, allowing targeted ablation of residual glandular tissue without sutures. In a pilot case-control

Diagnosis and Management of Upper Lip Sialolithiasis Identified via Conventional Dental Radiography: A Case Report.

Sialolithiasis of the minor salivary glands is a rare clinical entity that is seldom detected through preoperative imaging. Due to its nonspecific clinical presentation, it is frequently misdiagnosed as mucocele, fibroma, or minor salivary gland tumor; consequently, most cases are identified only through postoperative histopathological examination. We report a rare case of sialolithiasis in a minor salivary gland of the upper lip in a 73-year-old male patient. Despite the lesion's small size, a history of suppuration prompted radiographic investigation. A standard dental radiograph identified

Low-Grade Mucoepidermoid Carcinoma Mimicking a Mucocele in the Soft Palate: A Case Report.

Mucoepidermoid carcinoma (MEC) is the most common malignant salivary gland tumor, but its occurrence in the soft palate and among pediatric patients is unusual. This case highlights the rarity of this condition in children. A nine-year-old girl with a history of recurrent respiratory infections and allergic rhinitis with nasal obstruction developed a cystic, fluctuating lesion on the right side of her soft palate, initially diagnosed as a mucocele. She underwent septoplasty with complete removal of the lesion, and a low-grade mucoepidermoid carcinoma was incidentally diagnosed. MECs usually pr

Resolution of painful refractory soft palate mucoceles following post-surgical onset of satellite lesions: a rare three-year course.

Painful refractory mucoceles erupting along the soft palate are uncommon and management pathways are not well established. In general, oral mucoceles represent common non-neoplastic, non-infectious lesions of the minor/accessory salivary glands and are categorized histopathologically as mucus extravasation phenomena or mucus-retention cysts. We report a rare 3-year treatment-resistant course of painful soft palate mucocele clusters in an adult male causing significant impairment in quality of life, affecting speaking, swallowing, and psychological well-being. The case began as two isolated sof

Diagnosis of secretory carcinoma of the upper lip: A rare case report and literature review.

Secretory carcinoma (SC) is a rare malignant neoplasm of the salivary glands, first recognized in 2010 due to its resemblance to secretory breast carcinoma. Although classified as a low-grade tumor with generally favorable outcomes, some cases may exhibit high-grade features, including lymph node metastasis and aggressive histological architecture. The defining characteristic of SC is the ETV6-NTRK3 gene fusion; however, diagnosis can also rely on histopathological and immunohistochemical criteria when this fusion is absent. SC typically requires complete surgical excision with negative margin

Zygomatic sialocoele with underlying ductal neoplasia in a cat.

A 9-year-old British Short Hair cat presented with a 12-month history of progressive exophthalmos to the right eye. A computed tomography (CT) scan was performed, and it revealed a large 3.1 × 2 × 2.3 cm peripherally contrast-enhancing right retrobulbar mass in the region of the zygomatic salivary gland. Preliminary results of a fine-needle aspirate (FNA) were inconclusive, so the mass was surgically excised via the right partial zygomatic ostectomy approach. Histopathological evaluation was consistent with benign ductal neoplasia of salivary gland origin.

Expression profiles of SGK-1 and α-ENaC in minor salivary glands of subjects with xerostomia.

INTRODUCTION: Epithelial sodium channel (ENaC) is a major conduit for sodium transport across the cell membrane, and its activity is regulated by multiple factors/mechanisms, including the serum and glucocorticoid-regulated kinase-1 (SGK-1). Saliva production and secretion are complex processes, with ENaC regulation of the ionic composition of saliva being an essential event prior to the ultimate secretion of hypotonic saliva into the oral cavity. However, the status of salivary gland SGK-1, in the context of ENaC, remains to be determined. We tested the hypothesis that lower lip minor salivar

A 10 year retrospective study on oral salivary gland lesions in India.

703 oral salivary gland pathology cases from 2014 to 2023 out of 6,143 biopsies (11.4%) were analysed. Non-neoplastic lesions accounted for 89%, with mucocele being most common (84.2%). Among neoplasms, 59% were benign-primarily pleomorphic adenoma-and 41% were malignant, with mucoepidermoid carcinoma most frequent. The distribution patterns aligned with known literature, though malignant cases were comparatively higher.

Anatomical and histological characterization of solitary lobules of the monostomatic sublingual gland in dogs.

Sialocele recurrence in dogs following surgical excision of the monostomatic sublingual gland is often attributed to incomplete removal of sublingual gland tissue posterior to the site of duct rupture, suggested as solitary lobules of the monostomatic sublingual gland. Here we examined these solitary lobules in six healthy beagle cadavers. Gross anatomical observation revealed solitary lobules distributed along the major sublingual duct and separated from the rostral lobe of the monostomatic sublingual gland. Histologically, the solitary lobules were connected to the major sublingual duct and
