Morphometric analysis of the maxillofacial region for Le Fort I osteotomy in patients with cleft lip and palate.

Patients with cleft lip and palate (CLP) exhibit complex maxillary morphology, including hypoplasia, making Le Fort I osteotomy challenging and prone to complications. The aim of this retrospective, comparative study was to improve the safety of Le Fort I osteotomy by analysing the maxillary structure of patients with CLP. Fifteen unilateral CLP cases with maxillary hypoplasia (six males, nine females) and 15 non-CLP cases undergoing mandibular setback for prognathism (four males, 11 females) were evaluated. Axial computed tomographic (CT) images at 2.5 and 5 mm above the nasal floor were anal

Polydatin Targets ACADVL to Combat Obesity by Promoting Adipocyte Browning and Activating Fatty Acid Oxidation.

Stimulating white adipose tissue (WAT) browning represents a promising therapeutic strategy for treating obesity and related disorders. Polydatin (PD), a natural bioactive compound, exhibits anti-inflammatory and lipid-modulating properties; however, its impact on adipocyte browning and the underlying mechanisms remain unclear. In this study, we aimed to investigate the effect and mechanism of PD on diet induced obesity (DIO) with focus on adipocyte browning. In DIO mice, the effect of PD on energy expenditure and thermogenesis was measured using metabolic monitoring instruments and cold expos

Pharmacotherapy for metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis: heart-liver co-management.

Metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) affects approximately 30% of adults, with about 30% of cases progressing to metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis (MASH), which can lead to cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma. Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death in patients with MASH, highlighting the need for integrated heart-liver co-management. MASLD and cardiovascular disease share common pathophysiological mechanisms, including insulin resistance, low-grade inflammation, atherogenic dyslipidaemia, and oxidative stress, creating a bidirectional

Fetal Cleft Lip and Palate.

Fetal cleft lip and cleft palate are among the most common craniofacial anomalies, affecting approximately 1 in 1,000 live births worldwide. Cleft lip/cleft palate is caused by a combination of genetic and environmental factors and requires prompt diagnosis and lifelong multidisciplinary care for adequate treatment of anatomic and psychosocial challenges that extend well beyond surgical procedures in infancy. Cleft lip/cleft palate is a complex anomaly present from the first trimester onward that has prenatal and postnatal considerations. Diagnosis of cleft lip/cleft palate is most common in t

Bionic design based on liposome-exosome hybrid nanoparticles for synergistic delivery of paeonol to achieve neuroprotection and improvement of motor function in Parkinson's disease model mice.

Parkinson's disease (PD) is a prevalent neurodegenerative disorder characterized by the progressive loss of dopaminergic neurons in the substantia nigra of the midbrain, leading to a spectrum of motor and non-motor symptoms. Current pharmacological interventions for PD offer limited efficacy and are associated with significant adverse effects, thereby driving the development of novel drug delivery systems. This study aimed to enhance the therapeutic potential of paeonol by innovatively constructing paeonol-loaded liposome-exosome (Lip-Exo/Pae) hybrid nanoparticles, thereby synergistically leve

Intelligent nanoliposome ameliorate chronic intermittent hypoxia-mediated neuronal injury via a dual regulation microglial inflammation strategy.

The etiology of obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSAS)-associated cognitive dysfunction is unclear and complex. There is growing evidence demonstrate that hyper-activated neuroinflammation, M1 phenotypic microglia polarization, and subsequent neuronal inflammatory damage induced by chronic intermittent hypoxia (CIH) pose a crucial role in OSAS-related cognitive dysfunction. However, the regulatory mechanisms remain unclear, and during treatment, there are inevitable issues with small molecule drugs such as hydrophobicity, lack of targeting, and uncontrolled dosages, especially their inability

Descriptions of Two New Species of the Cyprinid Genus Hongshuia (Pisces: Cypriniformes) from the Pearl River Basin, Southwest China, with a Re-evaluation of the Taxonomic Status of H. paoli.

Two new species of the labeonin cyprinid genus Hongshuia, H. boulobos and H. wangi, are here described from tributaries of the Pearl River Basin, Southwest China. Both share with H. brevibarba the presence of a lower lip with a sector-shaped median lobe (the maximum width positioned at anterior potion of median lobe), distinguishing them from H. microstomata and H. megalophthalmus, which have a roughly rounded median lobe. Hongshuia wangi is distinct from H. brevibarba and H. boulobos in having wider median lobe of lower lip (width 47.8-57.6% of head width vs. 40.5-43.4% in H. brevibarba and 3
