Loss of UBE3C-mediated PIM2 ubiquitination drives Helicobacter pylori-induced gastritis via JAK2/STAT3 activation.

Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) infection is a major cause of chronic gastritis, yet its molecular mechanisms remain incompletely understood. In this study, we found that the proviral integration site for Moloney murine leukemia virus kinase 2 (PIM2) was significantly upregulated in H. pylori-infected gastric tissues and cells. Functionally, PIM2 knockdown not only attenuated inflammatory responses both in vivo and in vitro but also significantly reduced gastric H. pylori colonization in mice. Mechanistically, H. pylori infection downregulated the expression of the E3 ubiquitin ligase UBE3C, l

From inflammation to carcinogenesis: MiRNA regulates epithelial-mesenchymal transition to facilitate malignant progression of gastric precancerous lesions.

The process of chronic gastritis transforming into gastric cancer (GC) follows the classic Correa cascade, with persistent inflammation driving the stepwise transition from normal gastric mucosa through superficial gastritis, atrophic gastritis, intestinal metaplasia, dysplasia, and ultimately carcinoma. Among these stages, intestinal metaplasia and dysplasia occurring on an atrophic mucosal background are widely regarded as the most common gastric precancerous lesions (GPL) because of their pronounced carcinogenic risk. Chronic inflammation can induce epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT),

Targeting the Correa's cascade of gastric cancer: the potential role of phytochemicals and autophagy modulation.

Gastric cancer (GC) development follows a sequential and complex pathophysiological process known as Correa's cascade, progressing from chronic gastritis (active or inactive) to precancerous lesions (intestinal metaplasia (IM) and dysplasia) and ultimately to adenocarcinoma. Current GC therapies have limited efficacy and high recurrence rates. Autophagy, a cellular self-degradation mechanism that removes damaged or harmful components, plays a critical role in maintaining cellular homeostasis. Phytochemicals, owing to their low toxicity and multi-target pharmacological properties, exhibit anti-

Diagnostic value of a serum four-biomarker panel for atrophic gastritis in women under 60 years of age.

BACKGROUND: While endoscopy is considered the gold standard for diagnosing chronic atrophic gastritis (CAG), serum biomarkers such as pepsinogen I (PG1), pepsinogen Ⅱ (PG2), the PGⅠ/PGⅡ ratio, and gastrin-17 (G-17) have been investigated for their diagnostic value in CAG. However, studies to date have reported inconsistent results regarding their accuracy and clinical utility. METHODS: All 567 participants underwent upper gastrointestinal endoscopy and serum biomarkers were examined for PG1, PG2 and G-17 using Gastric Function Triple-Parameter test kit (Biohan Biotechnology Co., Ltd). Immunokinetic signatures of Helicobacter pylori infection: mechanistic insights for host immunity.

Helicobacter pylori is a highly adaptable bacterial pathogen that affects nearly half of the global population and plays a significant role in chronic gastritis, peptic ulcer disease, and gastric carcinoma. The immunokinetic profile of H. pylori infection is characterized by a paradox of cellular response that does not eliminate the bacterium, alongside inconsistent mucosal antibody protection. Reported studies generally demonstrate an early increase in mucosal interleukin-8 (IL-8), followed by increased T helper 1 cells (Th1)- and T helper 17 cells (Th17)-associated cytokine responses, includ

[Comparison of clinicopathological features of early gastric cancer and precancerous lesions in different chronic gastritis settings].

Objective: While chronic gastritis caused by Helicobacter pylori (H.pylori)infection is a well-established driver of gastric carcinogenesis, research interest has increasingly focused on the association between autoimmune gastritis (AIG) and gastric cancer. The aim of this study was to compare the endoscopic and pathological features of early gastric cancer (EGC) and precancerous lesions between H. pylori-related gastritis and AIG. Methods: Patients with EGC and precancerous lesions who attended the Department of Gastroenterology at Beijing Hospital between January 2022 and February 2025 were

From histological recovery to residual gastric cancer risk after Helicobacter pylori eradication: a multi-database bibliometric and clinical decision-domain analysis.

BACKGROUND: Successful Helicobacter pylori eradication reduces gastric cancer risk, but residual risk persists in patients with established atrophy or intestinal metaplasia. We integrated multi-database science mapping with independent article-level clinical decision-domain classification to quantify how the research agenda evolved from mucosal recovery to residual-risk management and to identify decision-critical evidence gaps. METHODS: Web of Science, Scopus, and PubMed were searched through 27 July 2026. Records were deterministically deduplicated and independently screened. Bibliometric n

Gastric cytomegalovirus disease mimicking locally advanced gastric adenocarcinoma in a patient with newly diagnosed AIDS: A case report and literature review.

INTRODUCTION: Gastric cytomegalovirus (CMV) disease is an uncommon manifestation of tissue-invasive CMV infection and, in rare instances, may mimic gastric malignancy. Recognition of this pseudomalignant presentation is important to prevent misdiagnosis and inappropriate oncologic management. CASE PRESENTATION: A 65-year-old woman presented with abdominal pain, diarrhea, recurrent post-prandial vomiting, poor oral tolerance, and a 20-kg weight loss over one year. Upper gastrointestinal endoscopy showed a large ulcerated antral mass with raised borders, highly suspicious for gastric adenocarci

Complete Resolution of Unprovoked Left Renal Vein Thrombosis and Pulmonary Embolism Associated With Severe Iron Deficiency Anemia: A Five-Year Follow-Up Case Report and Dual-Energy CT Appraisal.

Combined renal vein thrombosis (RVT) and pulmonary embolism (PE) in young adults without nephrotic syndrome, malignancy, or an identified major thrombophilia is uncommon. Severe iron deficiency anemia (IDA) has been associated with increased thrombotic risk, although a causal relationship cannot be established from an individual case. A 21-year-old male patient presented with flank and chest pain. Diagnostic workup confirmed acute left RVT and an acute embolism of the posterior basal segmental artery of the right lower lobe with pulmonary infarction, concurrent with profound microcytic IDA (he

Gastrin and cholecystokinin 2 receptor, and gastrin-releasing peptide receptor in cancer: From pathogenesis to precision medicine.

Gastrin regulates gastric acid secretion and mucosal homeostasis via the cholecystokinin-2 receptor (CCK2R). Aberrant signaling via CCK2R (cholecystokinin family) and the distinct class A GPCR, gastrin-releasing peptide receptor (GRPR; bombesin family), drives oncogenesis across diverse GI and non-GI malignancies through calcium mobilization, MAPK/PI3K activation, EGFR transactivation, and constitutive splice variants like CCK2Ri4sv. Furthermore, precursor forms such as progastrin remodel the tumor microenvironment by interacting with non-CCK binding sites (p78, Annexin A2), converting fibrobl

Clinical Characteristics, Diagnostic Challenges, and Therapeutic Outcomes in Non-eosinophilic Esophagitis Eosinophilic Gastrointestinal Diseases in Comparison with Eosinophilic Esophagitis.

Eosinophilic gastrointestinal diseases (EGIDs) are chronic, TH2-mediated conditions. Eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE) is the most common type, while non-EoE EGIDs affect other gut segments. This retrospective study of 111 patients (50 EoE and 61 non-EoE) from 2011 to 2022 compared the clinical aspects of these 2 types. Dysphagia and food impaction dominated in EoE, while abdominal pain, nausea, and diarrhea were more common in non-EoE EGIDs. Atopic comorbidities were frequent. Diagnostic delays>1 year were more common in EoE (72% vs 47.5%). The overall clinical response rate was 88.29%, with mos

Gastric neuroendocrine tumours after prolonged proton pump inhibitor use.

Gastric neuroendocrine tumours (gNETs) are rare gastric neoplasms. Here we report a case of a woman in her 40s with chronic gastro-oesophageal reflux disease (GERD) on proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) for 20 years who was diagnosed with gNETs on upper endoscopy. Extensive evaluations ruled out known causes of gNETs including autoimmune gastritis, gastrinoma and inherited cancer syndromes. After discontinuation of PPI and endoscopic resection of gNETs, her biomarkers including chromogranin A and gastrin completely normalised. This case highlights a rare occurrence of sporadic gNETs following prolo

The inflammation-epigenetics axis in gastric cancer: Helicobacter-driven field defects, immune escape, and therapeutic frontiers.

Gastric cancer provides a clinically relevant model of the inflammation-epigenetics axis because Helicobacter pylori can drive prolonged mucosal inflammation before malignant transformation. Inflammatory signaling remodels DNA methylation, histone states, chromatin accessibility and RNA-regulatory programs, generating epigenetic field defects that may persist after bacterial eradication. Epstein-Barr virus-positive gastric cancer represents a distinct hypermethylated and immune-adapted state. We organize these processes using four coordinates: inflammatory driver, dominant epigenetic lesion, c

[Consequences of celiac disease in an unaccompanied minor Eritrean refugee: severe intramedullary hemolytic anemia due to vitamin B12deficiency].

Unaccompanied minor refugees (UMRs), particularly from regions like Syria, Eritrea, and Iraq, face significant healthcare challenges in the Netherlands. Their unique medical and psychosocial needs necessitate a culturally sensitive diagnostic approach and coordinated care. Chronic conditions linked to nutritional deficiencies, such as celiac disease, are of particular concern. Celiac disease is an immune-mediated disorder triggered by gluten, leading to inflammation and malabsorption in the intestines. We present a case of a 16-year-old Eritrean UMR who, after a lengthy migration, arrived with

Helicobacter pylori biofilm formation and CagA-associated alteration in gastric mucin expression: Implications for bacterial persistence.

BACKGROUND: H. pylori is a major gastric pathogen associated with chronic gastritis, peptic ulcers and gastric malignancies. Two important mechanisms contributing to its persistence are biofilm formation and modulation of host epithelial responses. This study aimed to evaluate the biofilm-forming capacity of clinical H. pylori isolates, assess the effect of proteinase K on biofilm formation and investigate differences in mucin expression following infection with CagA-positive and CagA-negative clinical isolate on mucin expression in gastric epithelial cells. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The biofilm
