Cecal Duplication Cyst Presenting as Intussusception in a 7-year-old Male.

Cecal duplication cysts (CDCs) are rare congenital anomalies, accounting for only 0.4% of gastrointestinal duplications. They may mimic common abdominal pathologies such as intussusception, making preoperative diagnosis difficult. A 7-year-old male presented with upper abdominal pain for 3 days. Imaging suggested a possible ileocolic intussusception with a mesenteric cyst. An attempt at noninvasive reduction was unsuccessful, necessitating laparotomy. Intraoperatively, a 5 cm × 4 cm duplication cyst was identified at the distal cecum. Resection of the cyst with the terminal ileum and cecum, fo

Clinical course and predictive factors of incidentally detected adult intussusceptions on CT: a retrospective cohort study.

BACKGROUND: Adult intussusception is traditionally considered a surgical pathology often associated with a malignant lead point. However, the widespread use of computed tomography (CT) has led to more frequent incidental detections. We aimed to evaluate the clinical and radiological characteristics of incidentally detected adult intussusceptions and identify predictors of lesion persistence. METHODS: In this retrospective study, we reviewed 150 adult patients with incidentally detected intussusception on abdominal CT between 2020 and 2025. Demographic data, clinical history, and radiological

Navigating the Diagnostic Dilemma: Cecal Duplication Cyst and Intussusception in Pediatric Patients.

Intestinal duplication cyst is a rare congenital anomaly of the digestive tract, which usually affects infants and toddlers. Symptoms are often subtle and nonspecific; thus, a high level of suspicion is critical to a prompt diagnosis. We present a case of cecal duplication cyst in a 17-month-old toddler, who was initially referred to our department with colicky abdominal pain and vomiting. Transabdominal ultrasound indicated intussusception, necessitating barium enema reduction under fluoroscopic guidance. Nevertheless, the fluoroscopic reduction failed, and urgent laparotomy was performed. Th

The Mystery of an Eviscerated Bowel With a Yellow Tube: A Rare Presentation of Feeding Jejunostomy Intussusception.

Feeding jejunostomy (FJ) is a standard surgical procedure for establishing long-term enteral access. While minor site complications are common, severe mechanical disruptions are exceedingly rare. We report a highly unusual and dramatic presentation of an FJ-induced complication. A 28-year-old male patient presented to the emergency department with a striking clinical picture: an eviscerated, congested rosette of bowel with a "yellow tube" protruding directly from the prolapsed bowel segment. Emergency exploratory laparotomy revealed a complex jejuno-jejunal intussusception acting as a lead poi

Appendiceal inversion secondary to endometriosis and dilated mucinous adenoma identified on screening colonoscopy.

Appendix intussusception (AI), with ~200 reported cases, is a rare condition in which the appendix invaginates into the cecum [1]. Etiologies include benign and malignant pathologies including both intraluminal and extraluminal lesions, but dual pathology has not been described previously. We present a case of a 52-year-old female with colonoscopic findings suspicious for AI or a submucosal lesion. Surgical pathology following appendectomy revealed AI caused by both endometriosis and a mucinous adenoma. AI is usually diagnosed incidentally on laparoscopy. Though rarely diagnosed preoperatively

Predicting early recurrence after hydrostatic reduction of pediatric intussusception: A nomogram and a simplified clinical score.

OBJECTIVE: Early recurrence after successful hydrostatic reduction of intussusception occurs in 5-15% of children and often requires repeat intervention, yet reliable predictors remain incompletely defined. To identify clinical and sonographic predictors of early recurrence (within 48 h) after ultrasound-guided hydrostatic reduction of ileocolic intussusception, and to develop a weighted nomogram and a simplified bedside score for risk stratification. METHODS: This retrospective study included 677 children who underwent successful ultrasound-guided hydrostatic reduction between January 2020 a

[Jejunal melanoma: An unusual cause of intussusception].

We report the case of a jejunal melanoma revealed by intestinal intussusception in a 75-year-old male. He was admitted for acute abdominal pain associated with vomiting. Clinical examination, combined with abdominal ultrasound and plain abdominal radiography, suggested an obstructive syndrome. Computed tomography revealed an intussusception centered on a jejunal tumor mass. Emergency laparotomy confirmed the presence of an ileo-jejunal intussusception with a palpable jejunal mass. Gross examination of the resected intestinal specimen revealed a solitary sessile polypoid blackish tumor measurin

Gastric outlet obstruction secondary to Peutz-Jeghers syndrome successfully managed by polypectomy.

Peutz-Jeghers syndrome (PJS) is a genetic disorder characterized by the development of hamartomatous polyps throughout the gastrointestinal tract but primarily in the small bowel. Gastric outlet obstruction (GOO) due to PJS polyps is rare in childhood. The optimal treatment of large, gastric polyps in PJS remains unclear. We report herein the case of a 1-year-old, male patient who was treated endoscopically for GOO caused by a massive PJS polyp. The patient had a history of frequent non-bilious vomiting and melena. Gastrointestinal bleeding was suspected, prompting an abdominal ultrasound and

Intestinal Lipoma as a Cause of Sigmoid Colo-Colic Intussusception in an Adult: A Case Report.

Adult intussusception is an uncommon and often unexpected diagnosis, typically driven by an underlying structural lesion. We report the case of a 43-year-old woman who presented with a month-long constipation, five days of worsening intermittent abdominal pain associated with nausea, bilious vomiting, and anorexia. Contrast-enhanced computed tomography (CECT) revealed a sigmoid colo-colic intussusception caused by a 4 cm intraluminal fat-density mass consistent with a lipoma. The patient underwent successful surgical reduction with segmental resection and primary anastomosis. Histopathology co

A Clinically Ultrasound Fusion Visual Prediction Model for Childhood Irreducible Small-Bowel Intussusception.

Small-bowel intussusception (SBI) is usually transient, but 10% require surgery. The authors developed a bedside nomogram using routine ultrasound to predict irreducible SBI in 484 children (47 irreducible, 9.7%). LASSO regression selected five predictors: bloody stool, intussusception diameter and length, bowel wall thickness, and Doppler flow grade. The nomogram demonstrated good discrimination (C-index 0.907, 95% CI 0.869–0.945) and favorable calibration. This bedside tool enables immediate risk stratification using routine ultrasound measurements, potentially reducing unnecessary surgical

Fluoroscopic image-driven deep learning model for predicting intussusception irreducibility during air enema in children.

BACKGROUND: Accurate identification of irreducible intussusception during air enema is crucial for optimizing enema strategies. Current methods are limited by subjective interpretation and inconsistent clinical criteria. We developed a deep learning (DL) framework to objectively predict irreducibility using air enema fluoroscopic images. METHODS: In this retrospective study, a hybrid ensemble DL model was developed using fluoroscopic images acquired during air enema, comprising 770 irreducible and 1214 reducible cases. Model performance was evaluated on a real-world test set (46 irreducible v

Intestinal Ultrasound of Adult Small Bowel Intussusception Caused by a Polyp: A Case Report.

Intestinal ultrasound may facilitate early diagnosis of adult small bowel intussusception and can directly demonstrate a pathological lead point such as an intraluminal polyp. In patients with nonspecific abdominal symptoms, this may expedite CT confirmation, support appropriate surgical referral, and improve diagnostic confidence and overall clinical decision-making and management.

Idiopathic intestinal intussusception causing intestinal obstruction in an adult: a case report and review of the literature.

BACKGROUND: Adult intussusception is an uncommon clinical condition, representing a rare cause of intestinal obstruction. Unlike the pediatric form, most adult cases are secondary to an identifiable pathological lead point. Idiopathic intussusception, particularly involving the small bowel, is exceedingly rare and poses diagnostic and therapeutic challenges. CASE PRESENTATION: We report the case of a 42-year-old woman with no prior abdominal surgery who presented with a three-day history of abdominal pain, vomiting, and cessation of stool and flatus. Physical examination revealed mild abdomin

Colonic Lymphangioma as a Lead Point for Adult Ileocecal Intussusception: A Case Report.

Colonic lymphangiomas are rare benign malformations of the lymphatic system and are particularly uncommon within the gastrointestinal tract. In adults, intussusception is an uncommon condition and is often associated with an identifiable structural lead point. We report a rare case of an adult patient presenting with symptoms of bowel obstruction who was found to have an ileocecal intussusception caused by a colonic lymphangioma. Imaging suggested the presence of an underlying lesion, and a definitive diagnosis was established following surgical resection and histopathological examination. Thi

[A Case of Intussusception Due to Small Intestinal Cancer Diagnosed by Laparoscopy].

Most cases of primary small intestinal cancer are diagnosed at an advanced stage, and when accompanied by intussusception or obstruction, emergency surgery may be required. Preoperative evaluation of small intestinal cancer is challenging. The patient was a 52-year-old man who was referred to our hospital with abdominal pain and vomiting, and was diagnosed with small intestinal intussusception. Abdominal CT at our hospital revealed bowel wall thickening at the site where the intussusception had resolved, raising suspicion for small intestinal cancer.
