OBJECTIVES: To compare short- and long-term morbidity associated with saphenous vein sparing versus ligation during inguinal lymphadenectomy for vulvar carcinoma.
METHODS: A retrospective evaluation of patients with carcinoma of the vulva that underwent inguinal lymphadenectomy was performed. Operative reports were evaluated and patients were divided into those who had sparing of the saphenous vein versus ligation. Postoperative short- and long-term complications were compared between the two groups using Pearson chi squared analysis.

The aim of the present report is to review the complications of the deep neck infections and their surgical treatment in the Institute for the last 5 years. From 1999 to 2003 29 patients with deep cervical infections were treated surgically. Twelve of the patients had submandibular abscess, 10 cases were with parapharyngeal abscess, 3 with Ludwig's angina, 1 with mastoiditis with exteriorization in the neck and 3 with neck phlegmonas. Necrotizing soft tissue infections (NSTI) are infrequent but life-threatening, and require prompt empirical antibiotic therapy. Current nosologic classifications have limited value because the criteria used are imprecise and their bacteriological specificity is uncertain. Experience of examination and treatment of 102 patients with lesion of retroperitoneal space undergone surgery for pancreonecrosis is analyzed. Bacteremia caused by gram-negative bacteria occasionally causes soft tissue infections, including cellulitis and septic arthritis. We describe 1 patient each with Campylobacter fetus cellulitis and septic arthritis and review the world literature with regard to C. fetus and C. jejuni infections at these sites.
