Unicentric Castleman disease with paraneoplastic pemphigus in a young woman: a case report.

INTRODUCTION: The case reports a rare case of a patient diagnosed with unicentric Castleman disease (UCD) with paraneoplastic pemphigus (PNP). According to the literature, surgery is considered the first-line therapy for such patient. Therefore, we collected and analyzed preoperative and postoperative data to evaluate the surgical outcome and prognosis. CASE PRESENTATION: A 28-year-old female patient had manifested erosions on oral mucosa and fingers for several months. Contrast-enhanced CT imaging revealed an abdominal mass. Histopathology of the lesions revealed lichenoid interface dermatit

Data augmentation method for computer-aided diagnosis using specular reflection.

UNLABELLED: Drug-resistant Plasmodium falciparum has been on the rise, mainly due to point mutations in the pfDHFR or dihydrofolate reductase gene. This has heightened urgency to discover and develop new antimalarial drugs. This research utilized Pharmacophore Modeling, Virtual Screening, Molecular Docking and Molecular Dynamics Simulation techniques to identify potential pfDHFR inhibitors from virtual databases. Ligand-based pharmacophore hypothesis (H1) (r = 0.949, r2 = 0.883) was formulated using a training set of 28 compounds that demonstrated pfDHFR inhibitory activity across four orders

From technological iteration to clinical breakthrough: advances of CAR-T cell therapy in autoimmune diseases.

BACKGROUND: Chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) -T cell therapy has emerged as a promising approach for treating severe autoimmune diseases (AIDs), offering distinct advantages over conventional immunosuppressive therapies. This review examines recent advancements in both autologous and allogeneic CAR-T platforms for AIDs. METHODS: We analyzed preclinical and clinical evidence regarding CAR-T therapies. These therapies target signaling molecules across various cells in the myeloid and lymphoid lineages, addressing autoimmune pathologies across dermatological, neurological, gastrointestinal, and h

Paraneoplastic Pemphigus and Liver Biopsy Needle Track Dissemination in Hepatocellular Carcinoma: A Case Report.

INTRODUCTION: Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is a common and aggressive liver cancer, typically arising in cirrhotic livers but can also occur in the absence of cirrhosis. Paraneoplastic pemphigus (PNP) is a rare autoimmune blistering disorder mostly linked to hematologic malignancies; its association with HCC is extremely uncommon and poses significant diagnostic and therapeutic challenges, particularly due to the need for immunosuppression in PNP management, which may limit systemic cancer therapies. CASE PRESENTATION: We report an 80-year-old male with no prior liver disease presenting wit

Nomogram for predicting risk of relapse following complete remission in pemphigus patients.

BACKGROUND: Pemphigus is a recurrent and potentially life-threatening autoimmune bullous disease. This study aimed to develop a nomogram to predict relapse risk in pemphigus patients after complete remission (CR). METHODS: We retrospectively analyzed 110 pemphigus patients who achieved CR between 2021 and 2023 and were followed for at least 12 months. Independent predictors of relapse were identified using univariate and multivariate Cox regression analyses and incorporated into a nomogram. Model performance was evaluated using calibration curves, receiver operating characteristic (ROC) analy

Evidence-Based Practice for Comprehensive Management of Pemphigus Skin Lesions: An Evidence Synthesis Review.

Objectives: To identify, evaluate, and synthesize best evidence-based practices for the comprehensive care and management of cutaneous lesions in Pemphigus patients, encompassing assessment, prevention, topical care, health education, and follow-up. This aims to provide evidence-based guidance for clinical practice. Methods: Guided by the "6S" evidence model, a systematic search was performed across multiple databases, guideline repositories, and professional organization websites. The literature published from the inception of each database up to 25 February 2025 was considered. Two researche

[177Lu]Lu-PSMA-617 in combination with pembrolizumab for treatment of metastatic castration resistant prostate cancer (PRINCE): a single-arm, phase 1b/2 study.

BACKGROUND: Lutetium-177 [177Lu]-prostate-specific membrane antigen (PSMA)-617 improves overall survival and progression-free survival in metastatic castration resistant prostate cancer (mCRPC), whereas immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) have limited activity. Preclinical evidence suggests radioligand therapy might induce immunogenic cell death that can be enhanced with ICIs. This study evaluates the activity and adverse event profile associated with multiple doses of [177Lu]Lu-PSMA-617 with pembrolizumab. METHODS: PRINCE was a multicentre, single-arm, phase 1b/2 trial of [177Lu]Lu-PSMA-617

Testing optimal defense theory: Root resistance selection in chicory (Cichorium intybus) reduces foliar defense and alters aphid performance and feeding behavior.

BACKGROUND: Plants are constantly exposed to a wide range of herbivores at both aboveground (AG) and belowground (BG) levels, involving multiple constitutive defenses in leaves and roots. However, the Optimal Defense Theory predicts that the energy cost of defenses prevents plants from defending all organs equally. In an agroeconomic context, selecting genotypes for their root-specific resistance may therefore create trade-offs in the allocation of constitutive defenses, potentially leaving leaves more vulnerable to aerial herbivores. To test this hypothesis, we assessed the resistance to the
