Cutaneous paraneoplastic syndromes in cats: a comparative clinical review.

PRACTICAL RELEVANCE: Cutaneous paraneoplastic syndromes (CPSs) in cats represent a diverse group of rare dermatological manifestations that occur as indirect consequences of underlying neoplasia. These syndromes are thought to arise due to tumour-associated systemic effects, including dysregulation of immune responses, metabolic disturbances and aberrant production of cytokines or growth factors. Recognising CPSs is clinically relevant, as they may serve as early indicators of occult neoplasia, guiding timely diagnosis and intervention. CLINICAL CHALLENGES: Diagnosing CPSs requires a high ind

Emergence of autochthonous Leishmania infantum infection in dogs from Costa Rica confirmed by multimodal diagnostics: a case series.

BACKGROUND: Canine visceral leishmaniasis (CVL) is a vector-borne zoonotic disease caused by Leishmania infantum. This parasite has been reported in humans and dogs from Costa Rica over the past four decades as sporadic reports. In this study, we analyzed eight cases of autochthonous infections in dogs presumably originating from Santa Cruz, Guanacaste, and Santa Ana, San José, Costa Rica, none of which had a history of travel abroad. METHODS: Eight dogs with suspected CVL were analyzed using serological assays (Speed Leish K® (VIRBAC Diagnostics, France) or Antigen Rapid CaniV-4 (Leish)® (BI

Exfoliative Erythroderma Revealing Primary Central Nervous System Diffuse Large B-Cell Lymphoma.

Exfoliative erythroderma is a severe inflammatory skin condition that may result from pre-existing dermatoses, medications, or underlying malignancy. Although malignancy-associated cases are uncommon, persistent and treatment-resistant erythroderma should raise concern for an occult cancer. We report the case of an 82-year-old man with a one-year history of diffuse pruritic erythema and scaling involving nearly the entire body surface area that remained refractory to multiple dermatologic and immunosuppressive therapies. Initial evaluation for cutaneous lymphoma and systemic malignancy was neg

Cutaneous adverse events with antibody-drug conjugates: a FAERS-based pharmacovigilance study.

INTRODUCTION: Antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs) have revolutionized oncology by integrating the target specificity of monoclonal antibodies with the potency of cytotoxic payloads. However, despite a subset of clinical trials and case reports documenting cutaneous adverse events (CAEs) associated with these agents, comprehensive systematic characterization of ADC-related CAEs remains elusive. METHODS: Data extracted from the FDA Adverse Event Reporting System (FAERS) spanning Q1 2004 to Q2 2025 included patient baseline characteristics. Disproportionality analyses-reporting odds ratio (ROR) and

[Erythroderma: etiology, diagnosis, and management-an overview].

Erythroderma is a rare dermatological reaction pattern characterized by generalized erythema with scaling and systemic symptoms. It represents the maximal manifestation of various inflammatory, infectious, or malignant diseases and requires rapid diagnostic evaluation and initiation of therapy. In adults, inflammatory dermatoses as well as drug reactions represent the most common underlying causes. Malignant disorders, most notably cutaneous T‑cell lymphomas, must be considered in the differential diagnosis. Diagnostic evaluation is based on medical history, clinical examination, and additiona

Gefitinib treatment after exfoliative dermatitis induced by sequential aumolertinib and furmonertinib in lung adenocarcinoma: a case report.

This case report describes a 74-year-old female patient with lung adenocarcinoma harboring an EGFR exon 21 L858R variant and brain metastases. During sequential treatment with two third-generation epidermal growth factor receptor-tyrosine kinase inhibitors (EGFR-TKIs), aumolertinib (formerly known as almonertinib) and furmonertinib, the patient developed severe exfoliative dermatitis (ED). Given the patient's poor performance status, chemotherapy was declined, and treatment was subsequently switched to the first-generation EGFR-TKI gefitinib. Gefitinib was well tolerated, and no recurrence of

Persistent and Progressive Exfoliative Dermatitis: A Case Report.

INTRODUCTION: Exfoliative dermatitis, also known as erythroderma, represents an infrequent clinical presentation in emergency departments (ED) and often contributes to considerable diagnostic uncertainty. The differential diagnosis is broad, and the condition may arise from a wide variety of etiologies. We report a case of severe exfoliative dermatitis characterized by gradual progression and resistance to multiple therapeutic interventions over several weeks, ultimately resulting in significant systemic complications and marked hematological abnormalities. Evaluating the safety profile of poliomyelitis vaccines: insights from post-marketing surveillance.

Poliomyelitis (POLIO) vaccines are widely used because of their high clinical effectiveness and minimal side effects. However, as post-marketing surveillance data have been collected, several serious adverse events (SAEs) linked to poliomyelitis vaccination have been reported.Currently, there is a lack of quantitative studies using real-world data, and detailed information about these adverse events is scarce. To fill this gap, adverse event signals associated with the poliomyelitis vaccine were extracted and analyzed using U.S. data. The Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System (VAERS) serves as a

Paraneoplastic Syndromes in Gallbladder Cancer: A Systematic Review.

Background and Objectives: Gallbladder cancer (GBC) is a biologically aggressive malignancy characterised by poor survival outcomes often attributed to delayed diagnosis due to nonspecific clinical presentations. Paraneoplastic syndromes (PNSs), atypical symptoms caused by cancer itself, may serve as valuable indicators for timely diagnosis, particularly in malignancies with nonspecific features. Understanding the manifestations of PNSs in GBC is, therefore, critical. This systematic review collates case studies documenting the association of PNS with GBC, including subsequent management and c

Post-marketing safety concerns with Tislelizumab: a disproportionality analysis of the FDA adverse event reporting system.

BACKGROUND: Tislelizumab is an anti-programmed cell death protein 1(anti-PD-1) monoclonal antibody, which was approved by the Food and Drug Administration(FDA) on March 14, 2024. However, clinical studies are often limited by small sample sizes, and thus a more comprehensive evaluation of the safety of Tislelizumab, particularly its immune-related adverse reactions, is urgently needed. METHOD: Disproportionality analysis was used in this study to assess the safety of Tislelizumab in clinical practice by analyzing all adverse event reports from the FDA Adverse Event Reporting System database,

Erythroderma as a presenting feature of dermatomyositis: case-based review.

Erythroderma is an extensive, scaly erythema, involving more than 90% of the body surface area, and may be life-threatening. Dermatomyositis (DM) has been reported as a rare aetiology for erythroderma. However, the erythroderma itself would potentially mask the pathognomonic cutaneous lesions like the confluent erythema, heliotrope rash, and Gottron's sign of DM, leading to diagnostic dilemmas and potential delay in diagnosis. Here, we report a 23-year-old female with DM who had initially presented with erythroderma. Her cutaneous manifestations preceded the onset of clinical muscle weakness.
