Efficacy and Safety of Topical and Systemic Therapies for Atopic Dermatitis in Patients With Skin of Colour: A Systematic Review.

Atopic dermatitis (AD) is more common and often more severe in people with skin of colour, yet the trials that shaped modern treatment enrolled mostly White participants. The disease can look different in darker skin, and erythema-based severity scores may miss active inflammation. Whether current topical and systemic drugs work as well, and are as safe, across racial, ethnic, and Fitzpatrick skin-type groups, is still uncertain. This review brought together the evidence on AD treatment outcomes reported by skin colour. Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA

Atopy is associated with osteoarthritis severity: results from the KHOALA cohort.

OBJECTIVE: Atopy has been identified as a risk factor for osteoarthritis, but without specifying its impact on disease severity. We sought to investigate the association between atopy and the symptomatic and structural severity of knee and hip osteoarthritis. METHODS: We used data from KHOALA, a French multicentre cohort of patients with knee and/or hip osteoarthritis (OA) investigating "atopic" subjects, defined as those with history of asthma and/or atopic dermatitis (AD) compared to "non-atopic" subjects. We compared: WOMAC pain, stiffness and function scores; and the proportion of having

Large mammalian herbivores influence the deployment of microbial extracellular enzymes to control soil carbon cycling.

UNLABELLED: Large mammalian grazers have regulated biogeochemical cycles across 40% of the Earth's terrestrial surface for millennia. While grazer effects on organic matter entering the soil are becoming clear, their effect on the downstream microbial foraging through extracellular-enzymes (EE), which link processes at the cellular level to ecosystem-level flow of matter remain less clear. We assessed how large mammalian grazers influence microbial foraging in soil using two lines of evidence. First, utilising a 14-year-old long-term grazer-exclusion experiment in the Trans-Himalayan ecosystem

Skin of Color in Pediatric Dermatology: A Cross-Sectional Retrospective Analysis Addressing Inclusive Diagnosis and Care.

Children with skin color (SOC) are underrepresented in dermatologic research, despite structural and functional differences that shape disease presentation. Atopic dermatitis (AD), one of the most common pediatric dermatoses, often appears differently in SOC than in white children. This study compared dermatologic conditions prompting Pediatric Emergency Department (PED) referral in SOC and white children, and described clinical features of AD in SOC. A retrospective study was performed at IRCCS AOUBO Policlinico di Sant'Orsola, Bologna, Italy, analyzing records and photographs from 2019. Pati

Visual Dermatologic Case Report: Juvenile Xanthogranuloma of the Labia Majora in a Pediatric Patient.

Juvenile xanthogranuloma (JXG), the most common non-Langerhans cell histiocytosis of childhood, typically presents as a benign, self-limited cutaneous nodule on the head, neck, or trunk during early infancy. Genital involvement is exceedingly rare and poses distinct diagnostic challenges due to anatomic concealment and a broad differential diagnosis. A 5-year-old female presented with a solitary, well-demarcated, tan-brown, firm, dome-shaped papule on the left labia majora that had been intermittently pruritic for approximately 1 month. Dermoscopic evaluation revealed a yellow hue, prompting r

Case Report: Epidermodysplasia verruciformis misdiagnosed as pityriasis alba in a child: a diagnostic pitfall in facial hypopigmented lesions.

OBJECTIVE: Epidermodysplasia verruciformis (EV) is a rare genodermatosis with susceptibility to specific HPVs and risk of malignant transformation. Atypical EV presenting as isolated facial hypopigmented macules closely mimicking pityriasis alba can lead to misdiagnosis. This case report aims to clarify key differential diagnostic points through a misdiagnosed pediatric case. METHODS: Clinical data of an 11-year-old girl with EV, initially misdiagnosed as pityriasis alba and confirmed by dermoscopy and histopathology, were retrospectively analyzed. Clinical, dermoscopic, and histopathological

Efficacy of Dupilumab in Treating Trachyonychia and Other Nail Dystrophies: A Systematic Review of Case Reports.

Trachyonychia and related nail dystrophies are often associated with inflammatory skin diseases such as atopic dermatitis, psoriasis, and alopecia areata. Management remains difficult, as standard therapies frequently yield limited benefit. Dupilumab, an IL-4Rα antagonist, is effective for Th2-driven conditions, but its role in nail dystrophies has not been systematically assessed. This review evaluates the existing evidence on dupilumab for trachyonychia and related nail disorders. A systematic search of PubMed, Wiley, Web of Science, MEDLINE, Google Scholar, and EBSCO was performed from ince

Convergence in Pruning and Circadian Regulation in Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder and Allergic Diseases: Evidence From a Secondary Genome-Wide Analysis.

BACKGROUND: Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) and allergic diseases co-occur far more often than expected, yet genome-wide genetic correlations are typically modest or negative. The objective of this study was to test whether OCD and allergic diseases show convergence at the level of pre-specified biological pathways, especially synaptic pruning and circadian regulation, rather than at the level of broad genome-wide correlation. METHODS: Using the Multi-marker Analysis of GenoMic Annotation (MAGMA) pipeline, we re-analysed summary statistics from a large allergic-diseases genome-wide associ

Dyshidrotic eczema associated with Upadacitinib use: a paradoxical adverse event or serendipity?

We report the case of a 39-year-old man with long-standing ileocolonic Crohn's disease, with a history of prior ileocecal resection and secondary loss of response to infliximab and ustekinumab, who initiated treatment with upadacitinib (UPA) 45 mg/day due to severe clinical, biochemical, and endoscopic recurrence. The patient achieved a rapid clinical response with normalization of inflammatory biomarkers. Two weeks after UPA initiation, he developed pruritic vesicular lesions on the palms and fingers, which were diagnosed as de novo dyshidrotic eczema by an expert dermatologist. The cutaneous

Bilateral hand-restricted drug eruption induced by blonanserin: a case report.

BACKGROUND: Cutaneous adverse drug reactions due to antipsychotic therapy are well-documented, although their manifestations are highly variable. Blonanserin, a second-generation antipsychotic, is generally considered to have a favorable tolerability profile. Cutaneous reactions to blonanserin are rare and, more importantly, remain poorly characterized. This case report describes a novel and distinctive presentation of a bilateral hand-restricted drug eruption attributed to blonanserin. CASE SUMMARY: A 26-year-old woman without prior psychiatric history was hospitalized for an acute psychotic

Bleomycin-Induced Acral Dyshidrosiform Eruption: A Rare Cutaneous Toxicity Mimicking Eczema.

Bleomycin toxicity can present as dyshidrotic eczema on acral surfaces, distinct from classic flagellate erythema. This rare eruption is often refractory to corticosteroids but resolves upon drug discontinuation. Early recognition is crucial to avoid unnecessary antimicrobial therapy and to guide timely chemotherapy modification.

Dyshidrotic Eczema following Intravenous Immunoglobulin Therapy in Guillain-Barré Syndrome: A Case Report.

INTRODUCTION: Dyshidrotic eczema is an uncommon but recognized cutaneous adverse reaction to intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG) therapy, particularly among patients treated for immune-mediated neurological disorders such as Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS). The eruption typically consists of pruritic vesicles on the palms and soles, arising within days to weeks after infusion. Although usually self-limited, the reaction may recur with subsequent IVIG courses and can influence therapeutic decision-making. CASE PRESENTATION: We report a 39-year-old man newly diagnosed with GBS who was treated with

Atopic Dermatitis Flare Following Initiation of Nemolizumab.

BACKGROUND: Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a chronic inflammatory skin disorder marked by intense pruritus and episodic flares. While nemolizumab, an interleukin-31 (IL-31) inhibitor, has demonstrated efficacy in reducing itch severity, its broader effects on skin inflammation are not fully understood. CASE PRESENTATION: We describe a 49-year-old male with longstanding, treatment-resistant AD who began off-label therapy with nemolizumab. Within weeks of initiation, he developed a new pruritic vesiculobullous eruption localized to the palms, clinically and histologically consistent with dyshidrotic

Nummular Dermatitis Following an Insect Bite in a Patient With Activated Phosphoinositide-3-Kinase Delta Syndrome (APDS): A Case Report and Literature Review.

Activated phosphoinositide-3-kinase delta syndrome (APDS) is a rare primary immunodeficiency caused by gain-of-function mutations in the PIK3CD gene, resulting in the hyperactivation of the PI3K-Akt-mTOR pathway and subsequent immune dysregulation. Although recurrent sinopulmonary infections are typical, cutaneous manifestations remain poorly characterized. Nummular dermatitis is an uncommon presentation in this context and may reflect the underlying inflammatory imbalance. A 17-year-old female patient with genetically confirmed APDS (heterozygous PIK3CD c.3061G>A; p.Glu1021Lys) presented with
