To date, over 250 million people have been reportedly infected by COVID-19 disease, which has spread across the globe and led to approximately 5.1 million fatalities. To prevent both COVID-19 and viral transmission, DNA-based/RNA-based vaccines, non-replicating viral vector vaccines, and inactivated vaccines have been recently developed. However, a precise clinical and histological characterization of SARS-CoV-2 vaccine-related dermatological manifestations is still lacking. A systematic review of 229 articles was conducted according to the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and

With dermatologic side effects being fairly prevalent following vaccination against COVID-19, and the multitude of studies aiming to report and analyze these adverse events, the need for an extensive investigation on previous studies seemed urgent, in order to provide a thorough body of information about these post-COVID-19 immunization mucocutaneous reactions. To achieve this goal, a comprehensive electronic search was performed through the international databases including Medline (PubMed), Scopus, Cochrane, Web of science, and Google scholar on July 12, 2021, and all articles regarding muco

BACKGROUND: Pityriasis rosea Gibert (PRG) has features similar to those of common infectious childhood diseases, suggesting a viral cause, but no agent has been identified to date. We describe 4 children with PRG and 2 with recurrent varicella who were studied using photochronography, virology and immunology.
METHODS: The 6 patients with skin rashes visited our pediatric clinic from April 2012 to May 2016. Photographs of their skin lesions were taken; blood, skin lesions, and/or nasal lavage samples were collected to detect varicella-zoster virus (VZV) DNA and antibodies; and skin tests were

The novel coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) vaccination is now an essential strategy for controlling the COVID-19 epidemic. This study included 132 cases of adverse skin reactions after the injection of COVID-19 vaccination from January 2021 to January 2022. The rate of adverse skin reactions after the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd doses of the COVID-19 vaccine were 52%, 40%, and 8% of total adverse skin reactions, respectively. The Urticaria-like rash was the most common manifestation of all adverse skin reactions, accounting for 40.15% of all adverse reactions. The Eczema-like rash was 27.27%. The rat

BACKGROUND: Most common viral skin infections are not reportable conditions. Studying the population dynamics of these viral epidemics using traditional field methods is costly and time-consuming, especially over wide geographical areas.
OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to explore the evolution, seasonality, and distribution of vaccinable and nonvaccinable viral skin infections through an analysis of Google Trends.
METHODS: Worldwide search trends from January 2004 through May 2021 for viral skin infections were extracted from Google Trends, quantified, and analyzed.
RESULTS: Time series decompo

Dear Editor, Pityriasis rosea (PR) is a common, self-limited erythematous papulosquamous dermatosis that mainly affects young adults. It is believed to represent a delayed reaction to viral infections and is usually associated with endogenous systemic reactivation of human herpesvirus (HHV) 6 and / or 7 (1). A 46-year-old man presented to our Department with a two-week history of skin rash associated with mild pruritus. He described the appearance of an erythematous centrally scaled lesion at the right part of his abdomen, followed by the spreading of red oval mildly scaling lesions on the tru

BACKGROUND: Pigmented purpuric dermatoses (PPD) can clinically mimic many diseases. Histopathology provides a definitive diagnosis. The aim of the study is to reveal the features of patients with PPD and to determine the disease frequency in the differential diagnosis, especially mycosis fungoides (MF).
METHODS: We retrospectively reviewed records of patients with PPD admitted to our hospital from January 2010 to May 2019. We studied the histopathological features of 127 patients, and performed pattern analysis on cases with a confirmed histopathologic diagnosis of PPD. Among the cases presen

BACKGROUND: Dermoscopy is gaining appreciation in the spectrum of non-neoplastic skin conditions, especially papulosquamous and granulomatous dermatoses. However, the use of dermoscopy in such diseases has not yet acquired a standard role in daily practice due to the lack of a structured approach as well as possible pitfalls limiting its accuracy.
METHODS: A descriptive analysis of the most common limitations/pitfalls described in the literature regarding dermoscopy of non-neoplastic dermatoses was performed, also providing possible tips to deal with them.
RESULTS: The following items were a

The severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus two (SARS-CoV-2), which causes the 2019 coronavirus disease (COVID-19), has infected patients worldwide. Physicians have increasingly identified cutaneous findings as a significant clinical manifestation of COVID-19. In this review, we describe the clinical presentation, onset, duration, associated symptoms, treatment, and outcome of cutaneous manifestations thus far reported to be related to COVID-19. We have included data from 63 studies and subdivided reported cutaneous manifestations into the categories of viral exanthem, urticarial, vesicu

Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic had substantial effect both on daily life and medical practice. Internet data have been used to analyze the trends in public interest in various medical conditions and treatments. The aim of this study is to analyze the public interest in dermatologic symptoms, conditions, treatments, and procedures during the COVID-19 pandemic. Google Trends was queried for a total of 120 dermatological search queries. Three periods of 2020 ([March 15-May 9], [May 10-July 4], and [July 5-October 31]) were compared with the previous 4 years (2016-2019). A significan

BACKGROUND: In recent years, fluorescent quantitative polymerase chain reaction assays for detecting viral DNA are in widespread use throughout the world. However, considering the wide distribution of new herpesvirus among the population, we constructed a method to detect HHV-6, 7, and 8 simultaneously.
METHODS: The blood samples of 74 blood donors and 45 pityriasis rosea patients were collected. The recombinant plasmids containing U67, U36, and orf65 were constructed to optimize the PCR reaction system. The forward and reverse primers and probe sequences of HHV-6 were as follows: TAAATATCGAT

Pityriasis rosea (PR) is a common papulosquamous disorder that may be related to primary infection or endogenous reactivation of human herpesvirus 7 and 6. Based on morphology, distribution, and size of lesions, several atypical variants of PR have been described. PR following the lines of Blaschko represents an atypical variant that has seldom been described in the literature. Here, we describe a child with diabetes who developed PR in a symmetrical, blaschkolinear configuration.
