The paper presents a clinical case of psoriasis that developed in a 23-year-old Ukrainian service member after a combat-related through-and-through gunshot wound to the lower leg sustained in 2022. The patient had no previous dermatological diseases or family history of psoriasis. Two weeks after the injury, irregular pink plaques appeared around the damaged skin areas and gradually spread to the lower limbs, trunk, and upper extremities, becoming generalised within two months. The disease subsequently progressed to severe plaque psoriasis, complicated by nail dystrophy and psoriatic arthritis

BACKGROUND: Alterations in fibroblast growth factor receptor (FGFR) signaling are present in many malignancies, including urothelial carcinoma, cholangiocarcinoma, and gastrointestinal cancers, and FGFR inhibitors (FGFRi) play an increasing role in the treatment of these malignancies. Nail toxicities, such as onycholysis, paronychia, and nail fragility are an important part of the adverse effect profile of FGFRi that remain underrecognized and poorly characterized.
METHODS: We conducted a systematic literature review using PubMed and Google through March 2025, including case reports, trials,

Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a common chronic, recurrent inflammatory disease, yet its accompanying nail abnormalities have long received insufficient attention. The clinical characteristics, underlying mechanisms, and assessment systems for nail dystrophy in AD remain unclear. AD-associated nail dystrophy can manifest in various forms, including Beau's lines, nail pitting, koilongchia, trachyonychia, leukonychia, brachyonychia, melanoychia, onychomadesis, onychoschizia, onycholysis, and paronychia. Current treatments face limitations such as slow onset of action and uncertain efficacy with tradi

BACKGROUND: Onychodystrophy includes diverse nail disorders that may impair function and quality of life. Because nails grow slowly, adjunctive therapies that promote nail growth are of increasing interest.
AIM: This review examines the evidence for minoxidil in nail growth and nail disorders and proposes a treatment algorithm for its adjunctive use in onychodystrophy.
METHOD: A structured search of PubMed and Google Scholar was conducted on December 10, 2025, using terms related to minoxidil and nails. Records were deduplicated, screened, and appraised by full-text review using the Oxford C

BACKGROUND: Onycholysis is a common but etiologically heterogeneous nail sign, most frequently due to psoriasis, onychomycosis, and trauma. Since the diagnosis of the underlying cause can be misleading, we investigated whether dermoscopy (onychoscopy) pre- and post-clipping of the onycholytic nail plate can provide reproducible patterns to distinguish these causes without the need for a biopsy.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: In a multicenter retrospective image-based study, 60 onycholytic fingernails were examined (20 patients per diagnosis: psoriasis, onychomycosis, trauma). Onychoscopy of the intac

Onychopapilloma (OP) is a benign nail unit tumor of the distal nail matrix and nail bed that typically presents as solitary longitudinal erythronychia with distal subungual hyperkeratosis and focal onycholysis. Atypical OP is a newly recognized and evolving concept in dermatopathology. Herein, we present a histopathologically-proven atypical OP with a classic clinical appearance that developed during pregnancy. A 37-year-old Gravida two Para one woman presented with a red longitudinal band on the left thumbnail that appeared during the first trimester of an uncomplicated pregnancy. The lesion

Yellow nail syndrome (YNS) is a rare disorder defined by the triad of yellow nail discoloration, lymphedema, and respiratory tract disease. Only two of the three signs should be present to diagnose YNS; however, this can be challenging as patients often do not exhibit all three signs concurrently. The association between YNS and malignancy has led to the hypothesis that YNS may be paraneoplastic. Treatment may include oral vitamin E for nail discoloration, serial thoracenteses for pleural effusions, and compression garments along with bandaging for lymphedema.

Langerhans cell histiocytosis (LCH) is a rare myeloid neoplastic disorder driven by somatic MAPK pathway mutations, most commonly BRAFV600E, characterized by clonal proliferation of CD1a+/CD207+ dendritic cells forming granulomatous lesions in various tissues. Nail involvement is an uncommon but clinically significant manifestation, often associated with multisystem disease and a potentially poorer prognosis. We report 2 pediatric cases of LCH presenting with nail changes as the initial clinical feature. Case 1, a 2-year-old boy, was presented with longitudinal grooving, onycholysis, subungual

Noninvasive imaging techniques are playing an increasingly significant role in dermatologic diagnosis, risk evaluation, and the monitoring of therapeutic outcomes. In the August issue of the Journal, we highlight how dermoscopy, onychoscopy, trichoscopy, and line-field confocal optical coherence tomography (LC-OCT) can refine clinical decision-making across acral melanocytic lesions, onycholysis, primary cicatricial alopecia, and hyperkeratotic actinic keratoses. These papers show that imaging is most useful when tailored to anatomical and clinical context, advancing standardized and clinicall

INTRODUCTION: The Dermojet is a needle-free drug delivery tool into the dermis. It is a valuable, safe and efficient alternative to traditional needles to treat nail dystrophy. Nail dystrophy refers to abnormal growth of the nail unit, with causes ranging from localized infections and trauma to manifestations of systemic diseases and genetic syndromes. The aim of this study is to explore the potential of Dermojet in treating idiopathic nail dystrophies.
METHODS: Nineteen cases diagnosed with idiopathic nail dystrophy were seen at the plastic surgery and dermatology clinics of Dr. Sulaiman AlH

Nail diseases, including such common conditions as fungus, and more serious issues like melanoma, may be important clues to the overall health and require a clear diagnosis to be treated. The purpose of the paper is to create a nail disease detection system based on the advanced machine learning methods, including transfer learning and federated learning. The research seeks to show how machine learning and federated learning can be combined to detect nail disease performance with high accuracy without having to share data. The data include pictures of diverse nail conditions including Acral Le

Nail psoriasis (NP) is refractory in children, causing punctate pits, onycholysis, subungual hyperkeratosis and discoloration, impairing quality of life. We report a 14-year-old boy with 4-year NP, all fingernails involved with no cutaneous lesion, and unresponsive to traditional therapy. After 20-week oral upadacitinib, all nail lesions achieved near-complete resolution with only minimal residual nail changes, and no treatment-related adverse events. This suggests that upadacitinib demonstrates favorable efficacy and safety for pediatric refractory NP, large-scale prospective clinical investi

Isolated nail psoriasis, defined as psoriatic nail disease with no or little involvement of the skin, is a clinically significant yet frequently underrecognized condition. Its presentation often mimics other nail disorders such as onychomycosis or lichen planus which can lead to delayed diagnosis and inappropriate treatment. Patients may experience substantial functional impairment and psychosocial distress. This review highlights current knowledge of the epidemiology, clinical manifestations, and diagnostic challenges of isolated NP, with emphasis on populations where disease recognition is p

BACKGROUND: Snakebite envenomation (SBE) is a major neglected tropical diseases, causing significant morbidity and mortality, particularly in sub-Saharan Africa. Venom-induced consumption coagulopathy (VICC) is a major systemic complication and leading cause of death in haemotoxic snakebite. In Sudan, SBE is underreported, and data on VICC in resource-limited settings remain scarce. This study aimed to determine the incidence, clinical and laboratory characteristics, management, and in-hospital outcomes of VICC in SBE patients, and to evaluate the performance of the 20-min whole blood clotting

Psoriasis vulgaris (PsV) is a complex immune-mediated disease with a polygenic component. Common variants in the vitamin D receptor (VDR) gene have been explored in the context of psoriasis, but findings remain inconsistent and data from the Greek population are scarce. Thus, the present study aimed to investigate the association of the VDR FokI (rs2228570), BsmI (rs1544410) and TaqI (rs731236) single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) with PsV susceptibility and clinical phenotype in a Caucasian Greek cohort. In this observational cross-sectional study, 203 patients with chronic plaque psoriasis

Onychomycosis is a prevalent and therapeutically challenging fungal infection, largely due to the highly keratinised nail plate that severely restricts drug penetration. Voriconazole (VCZ) is a broad-spectrum antifungal agent; however, its poor aqueous solubility and limited permeability hinder its use in topical and localised delivery. Rather than relying on transungual drug transport, minimally invasive hollow microneedles (MNs) offer an alternative strategy by enabling direct administration of liquid formulations into the periungual and subungual soft tissues surrounding the nail unit. We introduce a novel, simplified surgical technique for iris-claw intraocular lens implantation in aphakia cases without adequate capsular support. The Needle Assisted Iris-claw Lens (NAIL) technique utilizes a 10-0 prolene straight needle as an internal guide and pivot during enclavation, thereby enhancing centration, precision, and ease of intraocular lens implantation. This method has been successfully employed in multiple patients, demonstrating promising short-term outcomes with improved centration and fewer complications. Overall, NAIL appears to be an efficient, safe, and reproducible a

Psoriasis (PsO), psoriatic arthritis (PsA), rheumatoid arthritis (RA), and ankylosing spondylitis (AS) are chronic inflammatory disorders classified as immune-mediated inflammatory diseases (IMIDs). Although these diseases share common pathogenic mechanisms, they can affect different parts of the body. Nail involvement is important in PsO. However, nail findings in RA and AS have not been extensively investigated despite their inflammatory presentation, similar to PsO. This study aimed to investigate clinical and onychoscopic nail findings in patients with RA and AS and compare their distribut
