Epidermolysis bullosa dystrophica in a goat kid.

In a dairy herd of Thuringian Forest goats, a male goat kid of around three weeks of age was detected with skin lesions, particularly on the distal limbs, chest and ears. These skin lesions were characterized by alopecia, pus-filled blisters, incrustations and erosions. The goat kid was referred to the clinic for treatment but had to be euthanized despite intensive treatment due to increasing deterioration in its general condition and was subsequently referred to necropsy. Histologic investigation of the altered areas of skin and mucosa revealed a separation of epithelium from the underlying d

Subpericranial and epidural abscess with skull osteomyelitis as a complication of microneedling for alopecia: A singular case report.

BACKGROUND: Subpericranial hematoma (SPH) is unusual in adults and is usually seen in neonates as cephalohematoma. Closed scalp hematoma is usually not associated with infection and abscess formation. CASE DESCRIPTION: A 28-year-old male presented with complaints of swelling on the left forehead. The patient at that time was on self-treatment for alopecia following a routine of application of minoxidil hair spray followed by microneedling with his derma roller. Radiological evaluation revealed a mass in the left frontal scalp region and communicating through frontal bone defect with mass in t

Depictions of Alopecia in Children's Animated Films: A Cross-Studio Analysis.

Children with alopecia experience significant psychosocial challenges, and portrayals in animated films may shape how young audiences perceive hair loss and identity. Alopecia representation across 139 children's animated films from Disney, Pixar, DreamWorks, and Studio Ghibli was analyzed, identifying 177 total characters that were verified by a hair specialist dermatologist and evaluated by independent raters, with statistical comparisons performed using χ2 and Fisher's exact tests. Characters with alopecia were predominantly male, human, and peripheral, with androgenetic alopecia most commo

Treatment of concomitant alopecia areata and systemic lupus erythematosus with ivarmacitinib: a case report and literature review.

Alopecia areata (AA) and systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) are distinct autoimmune entities that can present with overlapping clinical features of non-scarring alopecia. We report a case of a 35-year-old woman with a 9-month history of severe, progressive patchy alopecia that was refractory to baricitinib. Subsequent serological workup led to a diagnosis of SLE. The patient demonstrated significant clinical improvement following treatment with the selective Janus kinase (JAK) 1 inhibitor ivarmacitinib. Trichoscopy performed 8 months post-treatment revealed features supportive of both AA (excl

Platelet-rich therapies in cutaneous and mucocutaneous disorders characterized by inflammatory tissue responses: mechanistic insights and clinical evidence.

Cutaneous and mucocutaneous dermatoses comprise a heterogeneous group of inflammatory, autoimmune, infectious, and immune-mediated diseases affecting epithelial barrier tissues, including skin and mucosal surfaces. Despite their diverse etiologies these conditions frequently share convergent pathogenic mechanisms characterized by epithelial barrier dysfunction and inflammation, contributing to a substantial global health burden. At the immunopathological level, these disorders frequently involve coordinated activation of innate immune sensing pathways followed by adaptive immune polarization d

A case of dupilumab-induced psoriatic alopecia.

Dupilumab is a human monoclonal antibody, targeting the alpha subunit of the interleukin (IL)-4 receptor, shared by both IL-4 and IL-13 cytokines. Paradoxical reactions have been reported with its use, including psoriatic manifestations, but reports of associated psoriatic alopecia are sparse. We report a case of a 29-year-old man with severe atopic dermatitis from childhood who developed a psoriasiform rash and inflammatory alopecia affecting the scalp 7 weeks after the initiation of dupilumab. Histological features from a scalp biopsy were in keeping with psoriatic alopecia, including overla

Ginger-Derived Extracellular Vesicles: A Natural Solution for Alopecia.

INTRODUCTION: Ginger (Zingiber officinale (L.) Rosc), as an edible plant-derived nanoparticle, offers several advantages, such as a high return rate, low budget, no ethical barriers, and good for health. Ginger-Derived Extracellular Vesicles (GDEVs) are nanoscale vesicles isolated from ginger. METHODS: In this study, GDEVs were used to treat the alopecia mouse model, and its main active components and potential mechanism of action were investigated. The LC-MS/MS analysis of GDEVs revealed the presence of 1299 chemical compounds, among which auxiliary components were identified. Interestingly,

Sacituzumab govitecan in metastatic breast cancer: a systematic review and meta-analysis of its clinical benefit and safety.

INTRODUCTION: Trophoblast cell surface antigen 2 (Trop-2), a transmembrane glycoprotein abundantly expressed in breast cancer tissues, has become a prominent target in precision cancer therapy, with Sacituzumab govitecan (SG) being the first antibody-drug conjugate (ADC) designed against it. Breast cancer, the most common malignancy in women, has a prognosis severely compromised by recurrence and metastasis. This meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials (RCTs) aims to systematically evaluate the clinical benefits and safety of SG in treating metastatic breast cancer (mBC). (https://www.cr

Clinicopathological features and treatment outcomes of fibrosing alopecia in a pattern distribution: a multicentre cohort study.

BACKGROUND: Fibrosing alopecia in a pattern distribution (FAPD) is a lymphocytic primary cicatricial alopecia first described in 2000. However, to date, the FAPD literature remains sparse. OBJECTIVES: To identify clinicopathological features and treatment outcomes of FAPD in a large multicentre cohort. METHODS: Patients who had biopsy-proven FAPD were selected from nine specialist hair clinics and were reviewed retrospectively to evaluate the clinical pattern of hair loss, trichoscopic and histopathological features, and response to treatment. RESULTS: Of 110 patients, with a mean age of on

Phase II study of safusidenib erbumine in patients with chemotherapy- and radiotherapy-naïve isocitrate dehydrogenase 1-mutated WHO grade 2 gliomas.

BACKGROUND: Gliomas are primary brain tumors arising from glial cells. WHO grade 2 gliomas are initially managed with surgery for diagnosis and tumor reduction. However, complete resection is difficult due to their infiltrative growth into the normal brain and the need to preserve brain function. Current treatment options for WHO grade 2 gliomas are limited. Isocitrate dehydrogenase 1 (IDH1) mutations are frequently observed in WHO grade 2 gliomas. Safusidenib erbumine is a selective inhibitor of mutant IDH1 with substantial blood-brain barrier penetration. This study aimed to investigate the

Sequential immunotherapy with tofacitinib and low-dose IL-2 induces sustained remission in alopecia areata: a proof-of-concept monocentric study.

BACKGROUND: Alopecia areata (AA) is a chronic autoimmune condition that causes non-scarring hair loss and often leads to significant psychosocial distress. Although Janus kinase (JAK) inhibitors such as tofacitinib are effective, relapse after stopping treatment remains a major challenge. New evidence indicates that low-dose interleukin-2 (IL-2) may help maintain remission by increasing regulatory T cells, which can restore immune tolerance. OBJECTIVE: This proof-of-concept study aimed to evaluate the efficacy of sequential immunotherapy combining tofacitinib and low-dose IL-2 in inducing sus

Rezpegaldesleukin and Regulatory T Cell Restoration in Immune-Mediated Skin Diseases.

Inflammatory skin diseases such as atopic dermatitis (AD), psoriasis, and alopecia areata (AA) are characterized by immune dysregulation involving impaired regulatory T cell (Treg) function and persistent activation of effector inflammatory pathways. Current targeted therapies largely suppress downstream inflammatory signaling rather than correcting upstream regulatory abnormalities. Rezpegaldesleukin (REZPEG; NKTR-358) is a first-in-class, Treg-selective interleukin-2 (IL-2) receptor agonist engineered to preferentially expand cluster of differentiation 4 positive (CD4+) FOXP3+ Tregs while mi

Pembrolizumab Combined with Disitamab Vedotin in Human Epidermal Growth Factor Receptor 2-Positive Metastatic Colorectal Cancer.

BACKGROUND: Late-line treatment options for microsatellite stable (MSS)/proficient mismatch repair (pMMR) metastatic colorectal cancer (mCRC) are limited. PD-1 blockade alone has minimal clinical benefit in this population. Human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2)-targeted therapies represent an emerging strategy for HER2-expressing mCRC. This study evaluated the efficacy and safety of pembrolizumab combined with disitamab vedotin (DV), an anti-HER2 antibody-drug conjugate (ADC), in pretreated patients with HER2-positive mCRC. METHODS: This multicenter, single-arm, phase II study enrol
