ITS1-based profiling of the skin mycobiome in truncal acne reveals altered baseline ecology and heterogeneous doxycycline-associated patterns.

Truncal acne represents a biologically distinct manifestation of acne vulgaris, yet its fungal ecology remains incompletely characterized. Previous work using internal transcribed spacer 2 (ITS2) sequencing suggested that truncal acne is associated with altered fungal richness and Malassezia species composition; however, fungal marker choice may influence ecological inference, particularly in sebaceous skin dominated by Malassezia. In this study, we characterized the truncal skin mycobiome of patients with truncal acne and healthy controls using internal transcribed spacer 1 (ITS1) amplicon se

Response to the Commentary on "Efficacy and Safety of Er:Glass versus CO2 Lasers in the Treatment of Atrophic Acne Scars: A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis".

This response addresses the commentary by Dr. Moghadam regarding our systematic review and meta-analysis comparing Er:Glass and CO2 lasers for atrophic acne scars. We clarify several methodological considerations to reinforce the validity of our findings. First, while laser parameters across included studies were not identical, they represent standard clinical ranges and were restricted to prospective randomized trials to ensure comparability. Second, we highlight the significance of the split-face design utilized in the majority of our included studies, which inherently controls for individua

Proteoglycan Mimetics-Based Antimicrobial and Anti-Inflammatory Microneedles Restoring Dysregulated Lipid Metabolism and Suppressing Skin Atrophy for Acne Treatment.

Over 15% of acne patients manifest moderate to severe clinical presentations, accompanied with bacterial infection, long-term inflammatory responses, dysregulated lipid metabolism, and post-acne skin atrophy. Although microneedles (MNs) represent an effective transdermal drug delivery system for acne treatment, the therapeutic effects on the restoration of dysregulated lipid metabolism and the prevention of atrophic acne scars are still lacking. Herein, we develop proteoglycan-mimetic comb polymer (HMC)-based dissolving microneedles (HMC-PEP MNs) with encapsulation of therapeutic peptides. Thi

Could isotretinoin be a new therapeutic frontier for male infertility? A systematic review and meta-analysis.

PURPOSE: Retinoic acid is essential for spermatogonial differentiation and meiotic initiation, providing a biologically plausible rationale for exploring retinoid-based therapies in the context of male infertility. Isotretinoin is widely prescribed for acne. However, it has historically raised concerns about potential sexual adverse effects. We aim to synthesize contemporary available clinical evidence on isotretinoin and clarify whether it poses reproductive risks or may hold any potential therapeutic relevance in men across both dermatologic and infertility settings. METHODS: Following PRIS
