Magnolol confers neurotrophic effects against MPTP/p-induced Parkinson's disease in mice via anti-inflammatory, anti-apoptotic mechanisms and PI3K/AKT/GSK3β/MAPK/mTOR signalling regulation.

The current hypothesis investigated the neurotrophic effect of magnolol (ML) against MPTP/p-induced neurotoxicity in Parkinson's disease (PD) mice, focusing on the molecular mechanisms of PI3K/Akt/GSK3β and MAPK signalling pathways. To determine the effective dose, 6 mice/group were employed for the dose-dependent study and brain-protective study. Behavioural deficits (open field test, narrow beam walking), dopamine (DA) depletion, lipid peroxidation, antioxidant levels, histology (H&E, PAS, and MT), inflammatory cytokines, DAT and VMAT2 expressions, SN region expressions of BDNF, GDNF, VEGF,

In Vivo Human Cone Photoreceptor Inner Segment Diameter Database Using Adaptive Optics Retinal Imaging.

PURPOSE: To establish an in vivo database of human cone photoreceptor inner segment diameter evaluated across the lifespan. METHODS: Non-confocal split detection adaptive optics (AO) imaging was performed in 28 eyes of 28 healthy subjects (14 females and 14 males; 45.1 ± 20.7 years, ranging from 12-84 years). Cone photoreceptor inner segments were semi-automatically segmented and cone diameters measured from the AO images across eccentricities ranging from 1.0 to 6.0 mm temporal to the fovea. A linear mixed-effects model was used to assess the relationship between cone diameter and sex as wel

Hidradenitis Suppurativa Remission and Progression in a Community Setting.

IMPORTANCE: Hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) is a chronic inflammatory dermatological disease with prevalence estimates ranging from 0.1% to 0.5% in clinical settings to 1% to 2% in general populations. While tertiary care data show that 22% of patients progress to severe disease within 2 years, estimates of disease development outside the hospital setting remain unknown. OBJECTIVE: To investigate HS development in a non-hospital-based setting and to identify baseline factors associated with remission and progression to severe disease in the community. DESIGN, SETTING, AND PARTICIPANTS: This pr

Hypercalcemia of malignancy in a dog with cutaneous apocrine gland carcinoma and malignant myoepithelioma.

Humoral Hypercalcemia of Malignancy (HHM) is a commonly reported condition in dogs affected by several cancers, mostly T-cell lymphoma and anal sac gland carcinomas, but also other type of tumors. We report the case of a 6-years-old, female neutered Border Collie with an ulcered nodule on the right retromandibular region, that had mild serum total calcium elevation (14,1 mg/dl; reference range (RR): 8,4 to 11 mg/dl) in the absence of clinicopathological abnormalities or imaging finding suggesting any known cause of hypercalcemia. Histologically, the tumor had a tubular epithelial component, ad

Laser therapy: palliative care for the Harlequin syndrome?

Harlequin syndrome is a rare condition characterized by facial dysautonomia with anhidrosis, hemifacial blush, and other nonfacial manifestations without conventional treatment. This report presents a case study of the potential treatment of Harlequin syndrome using laser therapy. A single-case AB design was used, allowing for a systematic comparison between the baseline and intervention phases. The baseline phase involved data collection during a period without intervention (control condition), that is before laser therap. As evaluation criteria, a clinical assessment of skin turgor, sweating

Early onset, genital, and axillary involvement are strongly associated with impaired quality of life in hyperhidrosis patients.

Hyperhidrosis is a chronic condition marked by excessive sweating that significantly affects patients' quality of life (QoL). However, this issue is both underrecognized and undertreated, and its physical, emotional, and social burdens are often underestimated, particularly in Middle Eastern populations. A cross-sectional, analytical study was conducted across Saudi Arabia between May 2024 and April 2025. Participants were recruited through dermatology clinics and a Telegram support group. They completed an online self-administered Arabic questionnaire regarding demographics, medical history,

Sweat Gland Carcinoma With Neuroendocrine Differentiation (SCAND) Harboring a Novel GATA3 Frameshift Extension Mutation: A Case Study With Protein Structural Modeling.

Sweat-gland carcinoma with neuroendocrine differentiation (SCAND) is a rare cutaneous adnexal carcinoma. Here we report a case of aggressive SCAND originating in the suprapubic area of an elderly male with lung and spinal cord metastasis. Sections from an excisional biopsy showed an infiltrative neoplasm filling the dermis with extension into the subcutaneous fat. Immunohistochemical studies showed expression of neuroendocrine markers, resulting in an initial diagnosis of metastatic neuroendocrine carcinoma. Next-generation sequencing identified a novel GATA3 frameshift extension mutation (p.F

IgA autoantibodies promote inflammation, Th17 polarization and fibrotic responses in hidradenitis suppurativa.

Hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) is a chronic inflammatory skin disease with complex immune dysregulation. While previous studies have reported tertiary lymphoid structures (TLS) and IgA-producing B cells in HS skin lesions, the pathogenic role of IgA autoantibodies remains insufficiently characterized. Here, we demonstrate that lesional skin from patients with HS exhibits elevated expression of IGHA1, IGHA2, and J chain, as confirmed by qPCR, immunofluorescence, and Western blot analyses. Single-cell RNA sequencing identified local plasma cells and B cells as the primary source of IgA. Autoantig

[Eccrine porocarcinoma on the dorsum of the foot: case report of a rare tumor].

OBJECTIVES: Eccrine porocarcinoma is a rare malignant adnexal tumor derived from the eccrine sweat glands, with metastatic potential. It primarily affects elderly individuals, and its most common location is in the head and neck region. Clinically, it presents as a solitary, nodular, erythematous-violaceous tumor. Its diagnosis can be challenging due to its clinical and histopathological variability. The objective of this case report is to describe a case of eccrine porocarcinoma in an unusual location and analyze its diagnostic and therapeutic approach. CASE REPORT: We present the case of a

Multiple Periocular Eccrine Hidrocystomas Mimicking Malignancy: A Clinicopathologic Diagnostic Challenge.

Hidrocystomas are benign cystic tumors of sweat gland origin that may arise from eccrine or apocrine structures and frequently involve the periocular region. Their clinical resemblance to both benign and malignant adnexal lesions represents a diagnostic challenge. We report a case of multiple periocular eccrine hidrocystomas in a man in his 50s presenting with bilateral translucent cystic papules along the eyelid margins. Histopathologic evaluation revealed a well-circumscribed dermal cyst lined by a double layer of cuboidal epithelial cells without decapitation secretion, confirming eccrine d

Sudomotor dysfunction in type 1 diabetes: A case report.

Sudomotor dysfunction is a frequent and early sign of diabetic neuropathy. It is a disorder of the autonomic nervous system that involves small fibers and is usually underdiagnosed despite the impact it has on the patients' quality of life. Its study is recommended as a strategy for early detection as an indicator of dysautonomic dysfunction and management of later complications. Although it can be highly disabling, it often goes unnoticed, as it is considered less alarming than other dysautonomic symptoms. We present the case of a diabetic patient with sudomotor disfunction who underwent a co
