The Australian Diabetes Foot Registry (ADFR) is a national prospective, longitudinal clinical quality registry established in 2020 to standardise data capture and reporting in Interdisciplinary Diabetes High Risk Foot Services. We describe the ADFR's methodology and early implementation outcomes. Stakeholder consultation informed development of the minimum dataset, governance framework and data-capture workflow. Centrally supported ethics and jurisdictional approvals facilitated site onboarding. Clinical, management and outcome data were collected, de-identified and amalgamated in a national r

OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to evaluate the experiences of patients with hard-to-heal (chronic) leg ulcers (LUs) whose lesions were treated with an inelastic, adjustable compression system (ACS). The specific goal was to evaluate the impact of an ACS on wound healing, patient quality of life (QoL) and self-management.
METHOD: In this prospective, single-centre observational study, patients who presented with either unilateral or bilateral hard-to-heal LUs received treatment with an ACS. The study included patients diagnosed with venous leg ulcers, ulcers of unknown origin or of mixed aetiolog

OBJECTIVE: Hard-to-heal (chronic) lower extremity ulcers represent a significant clinical challenge with substantial morbidity and healthcare costs. Extracorporeal shockwave therapy (ESWT) has emerged as a promising adjunctive treatment modality for hard-to-heal wounds, though evidence for combined electromagnetic transduction therapy (EMTT) and ESWT remains limited. The aim of this study was to describe wound healing and pain outcomes associated with combined EMTT and ESWT, used as an adjunct to standard of care (SoC), in patients with hard-to-heal lower extremity ulcers, and to investigate w

OBJECTIVE: The aetiology of hard-to-heal (chronic) wounds is usually categorised as either 'diabetic foot', 'venous leg ulcer (VLU)', 'arterial', 'pressure injury', 'postoperative' and 'other'. Due to the homogeneity of patients with a diabetic foot ulcer, the majority of studies regarding the efficacy of placental allografts have been in this population of patients, with a small fraction conducted with patients with VLUs. However, insufficient research has been performed regarding advanced modalities for the treatment of other, open hard-to-heal wounds resulting from alternative aetiologies,

IMPORTANCE: Venous leg ulceration (VLU) is a major cause of patient distress and healthcare burden. Previous studies have highlighted the importance of early endovenous ablation of superficial venous reflux to expedite healing and prevent recurrence, but the optimal venous ablation modality is unclear.
OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of cyanoacrylate closure in patients with VLU.
DESIGN: A global, prospective, single-arm observational study was conducted in 17 centers across the United States and Europe. A total of 125 participants with VLU were

BACKGROUND: Venous leg ulcers (VLUs) are chronic wounds associated with substantial symptom burden, impaired health-related quality of life, and high healthcare costs. Current guidance recommends assessing patient-centered outcomes alongside healing. This study reports the VLU subgroup of a prospective multicenter cohort, focusing on wound-related quality of life and patient-perceived treatment benefit.
METHODS: This prospective, single-arm cohort study was conducted in specialist wound centers in Poland. Adults with chronic, noninfected, exuding VLUs received RespoSorb Silicone Border or Res

IntroductionManagement of Mixed Arterial Venous Leg Ulcers (MAVLU) represents a clinical dilemma. The ideal sequencing of intervention 'veins-first' vs 'artery-first' remains uncertain. With the paucity of current MAVLU guidelines, we evaluated our patients' preferences to help establish momentum in developing clinical evidence.MethodsThis is a prospective, cross-sectional study to elicit patient preferences using the Discrete Choice Experiment (DCE). The DCE task contained the two options veins-first vs artery-first intervention. The block randomisation method was utilised to provide alternat

AIM: Venous leg ulcers (VLUs) are the most common type of hard-to-heal lower extremity ulcers, significantly impacting quality of life and causing financial burden. The aim of the present study was to investigate the healing time and recurrence rate following polidocanol endovenous microfoam 1% injection in patients with hard-to-heal VLUs.
METHODS: Data from consecutive patients undergoing polidocanol endovenous microfoam injection between August 2019 and February 2021 at a university-affiliated referral wound care centre in Edison, NJ, US were retrospectively analysed. Their healing time and

Diabetic foot ulcers (DFUs) affect many patients with uncontrolled diabetes and are associated with significant morbidity. Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) preparations have been validated as effective adjuncts in the treatment of DFUs. This narrative review seeks to appraise and critique literature related to PRP use for DFUs. As a result, the inconsistent reporting of statistical analyses and preparation procedures among studies are highlighted. In 2017, the Minimum Information for Studies Evaluating Biologics in Orthopaedics (MIBO) guideline was compiled to standardise the reporting of orthobiolo

BACKGROUND: Diabetic foot ulcers (DFUs) represent a major and growing complication of diabetes in the Gulf and wider Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region, which has the world's highest diabetes prevalence at approximately 17.6% of adults. DFUs carry a high burden of morbidity, mortality and economic cost, and their complex multifactorial aetiology, encompassing peripheral neuropathy, ischaemia, deformity and infection, is compounded by region-specific cultural, climatic and healthcare factors.
AIMS: To develop evidence-based, Gulf-specific clinical guidelines on the assessment, manageme

The health-economic burden of hard-to-heal wounds is rising across the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region, yet regional data remain sparse, particularly for venous leg ulcers and pressure injuries. Effective wound bed preparation, including management of bioburden and biofilm, is central to healing outcomes, but debridement practice across APAC is inconsistent. In May 2026, the Journal of Wound Care published the continuous integral debridement (CID) concept, built around a four-step cleanse, debride, cleanse, dress (CDCD) cycle designed to standardise debridement in everyday clinical practice. OBJECTIVE: Revascularisation is central to limb salvage in chronic limb-threatening ischaemia (CLTI) and diabetic foot ulceration (DFU); however, the optimal method for selecting target vessels remains uncertain. The angiosome model has traditionally guided revascularisation planning, while the emerging woundosome concept emphasises wound-level perfusion, collateral circulation, microvascular function, wound severity and multidisciplinary care. This review evaluated whether current evidence supports angiosome-guided revascularisation alone or a more wound-centred approach.
METHOD: A structure

OBJECTIVE: Diabetic foot ulcers and venous leg ulcers (VLUs) frequently recur after closure, and because the underlying disease persists, a more meaningful endpoint to consider is durable healing: sustained closure with low recurrence and fewer complications. Mechanistically, topical wound oxygen supports antimicrobial defence, angiogenesis and collagen cross-linking, while cyclical compression reduces oedema and enables timely resolution of inflammation, improving the structural quality of repaired tissue rather than merely closing the wound. Combining both modalities in one device offers a p

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: Chronic venous disease (CVD), including chronic venous insufficiency and venous leg ulcers (VLU), is common and substantially impairs quality of life. Compression is the cornerstone of conservative care, but lifestyle measures and selected nutraceuticals may provide additional benefit. This review aims to synthesize and clinically position evidence on adiposity, weight management, diet-related factors, and venoactive nutraceuticals across CVD phenotypes.
METHODS: Evidence from epidemiological studies, clinical cohorts, randomized trials, and meta-analyses was summarized u

Chronic ulcers, including diabetic foot ulcers, pressure ulcers, and venous leg ulcers, remain a major clinical challenge due to their progressive tissue deterioration and high recurrence rates. Current preventive strategies largely rely on intermittent assessment and often fail to detect early pathological changes before visible tissue damage occurs. Recent advances in flexible electronics and wearable biointerfaces have enabled smart dressings capable of continuous physiological surveillance. However, existing studies and reviews mainly focus on individual sensing technologies, while lacking

Gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GISTs) may cause gastrointestinal bleeding, but the temporal course of repeated intratumoral hemorrhage preceding a fatal gastrointestinal bleeding event is rarely demonstrated morphologically at autopsy. A 79-year-old man with no known history of GIST was found dead at home after several days of malaise and loss of appetite. Medicolegal autopsy revealed an 8 × 8 cm gastric GIST with a crater-like mucosal ulcer and abundant tarry intestinal contents. The tumor contained grossly layered dark-red thrombi, whitish organized thrombi, and viable tumor tissue. Histol

Diabetic ulcers are associated with high amputation and mortality rates, significantly impacting patients' life quality. Both hypoxia and substance P (SP) treated-ADSC-Exos promote wound healing and angiogenesis in diabetic foot ulcers. However, the effects of combined hypoxia and SP pretreatment remain unclear. ADSCs were isolated and treated with hypoxia and SP, and then ADSC-Exos were extracted and identified. A diabetic foot ulcer mice model was established and treated with hypoxia plus SP preconditioned ADSC-Exos. Wound area and the expression of CD31 and CD34 in the gastrocnemius muscle

Chronic venous diseases (CVD), including venous leg ulcers (VLU), represent a significant health burden. Despite the central role of compression therapy in current treatment guidelines, recent evidence suggests substantial gaps in provision. A retrospective cohort study was conducted using anonymized claims data from 3.35 million insured individuals. Persons with VLU or CVD in 2017 were observed over 5 years. Compression therapy, comorbidities, antibiotic prescriptions, and physician contacts were analysed. The prevalence was 0.50% for VLU (n = 16 615) and 7.27% for CVD (n = 243 681). Across 5

BACKGROUND: Diabetic foot (DF) is a severe chronic complication of diabetes, associated with high amputation risk and mortality. Conventional nursing often neglects patients' psychological needs and long-term self-management, limiting comprehensive rehabilitation. Interactive nursing has shown promise in chronic disease care, yet systematic evaluations of its multidimensional effects remain scarce. This study assessed a three-subject, dual-track, interactive care (TSDTIC) model on wound healing, psychological state, and quality of life in DF patients.
METHODS: This retrospective cohort study
