Study on the mechanism of traditional chinese medicine compound Shixiang Plaster improving diabetic wound healing through MAPK regulation of macrophage polarization.

The healing impairment of diabetic foot ulcers (DFU) is closely related to chronic inflammation and the imbalance of M1/M2 polarization of macrophages. This study aims to elucidate the mechanism by which the traditional Chinese medicine compound Shixiang Plaster (SXP) promotes wound healing in diabetes by regulating the MAPK signaling pathway and modulating macrophage polarization. A full-thickness skin defect model in streptozotocin (STZ)-induced diabetic mice was established and divided into the control group, model group, SXP group, and basic fibroblast growth factor (BFGF) group. Histologi

Conservative tissue sparing management of pediatric pyogenic granuloma with preserved joint function: A narrative review with an illustrative case.

The pediatric population presents specific management challenges with pyogenic granuloma (PG), particularly when located near joints, as surgical treatment may compromise mobility. While surgical excision remains the gold standard treatment, emerging reports suggest that more conservative approaches may be suitable in select cases, offering less invasive treatment options. We report the preservation of joint function while successfully resolving pyogenic digital granuloma with topical steroid-antibiotic preparations. A healthy 7-year-old girl presented with progressive left middle and ring fin

Multifactorial etiology of oral pyogenic granuloma: case reports with distinct triggers.

Pyogenic granuloma (PG) is a common reactive vascular hyperplasia of the oral cavity with multifactorial origin. Although benign, it shows clinical variability and may recur if predisposing factors persist. This report describes two oral PG cases with different etiologies. A 68-year-old man presented with a mucogingival lesion associated with dental calculus, while a 29-year-old woman developed a lesion during pregnancy that continued after delivery. Both were treated with complete surgical excision and elimination of local irritants. Histopathology confirmed PG, characterized by granulation t

Maxillary sinus pyogenic granuloma with orbital extension: a rare pediatric presentation mimicking malignancy.

We report the case of an 11-year-old girl who presented with 2 weeks of nonspecific facial pressure and pain and who was ultimately found to have a right maxillary sinus mass with orbital invasion. Initial imaging and clinical features raised concern for malignancy. However, following biopsy and surgical resection, final pathology revealed a pyogenic granuloma. This benign vascular lesion has rarely been described in the maxillary sinus and, to our knowledge, has not previously been reported to involve the orbit. This case underscores the importance of maintaining a broad differential diagnosi

Polypoid Melanoma: A Rare and Aggressive Variant.

A 57-year-old man presented with a several-month history of a bleeding, lobulated mass on the left lower back and a palpable left axillary lymph node. Excisional biopsy revealed an 11-mm-thick, lobulated, sessile polypoid nodular melanoma (pT4b) with Clark level IV invasion, a mitotic rate of 4/mm², and associated ulceration. A sentinel lymph node biopsy was not performed, as the patient was subsequently lost to follow-up. Immunohistochemistry was positive for SOX10, MART-1, and HMB-45, confirming melanocytic differentiation. The lesion was initially excised with 2-cm clinical margins, and his

Comparative analysis of sclerotherapy and surgical resection for pediatric pyogenic granuloma: a retrospective cohort study.

BACKGROUND: Pyogenic granuloma (PG) is a benign vascular lesion frequently encountered in children and young adults. Although surgical excision is traditionally considered the standard of care, it may be limited by operative complexity, postoperative scarring, and patient discomfort. Sclerotherapy with polidocanol has recently emerged as a minimally invasive alternative, but direct comparative data in pediatric populations remain limited. METHODS: We conducted a retrospective cohort study of 30 pediatric patients diagnosed with PG and treated at our institution between January 2022 and Februa

Intraoral lobular capillary hemangioma in the esthetic zone.

Lobular capillary hemangioma (LCH), previously known as pyogenic granuloma, is a benign vascular lesion commonly affecting the oral cavity. Despite its misleading name, LCH represents a reactive hyperplastic proliferation of capillaries, often triggered by local irritation or hormonal changes. A 30-year-old male presented with a painless, fibrous, pedunculated swelling between the maxillary central incisors, causing pathological tooth migration and difficulty in mastication. Clinical and radiographic examination revealed no bony involvement, and a provisional diagnosis of LCH was made. The les

Reshaping the cardiovascular continuum in the management of arterial and venous cardiovascular disease: a narrative review.

The prevalence of cardiovascular disease (CVaD) is expected to double in the next 25 years, fueled by increasing prevalence of diabetes mellitus, obesity and hypertension. Cardiovascular-kidney-metabolic syndrome is a clinical entity requiring a holistic approach to prevention and management. Another aspect of this syndrome is chronic venous disease (CVeD), which is common in patients with CVaD. This review describes presentations at a symposium by the European Association of Preventive Cardiology (Milan, Italy; April 2025), discussing the interconnectedness of conditions on the CVaD continuum

Multifocal Digital Squamous Cell Carcinoma With Sarcoma Differentiation: A Case Report.

BACKGROUND Sarcomatoid squamous cell carcinoma is a rare and highly aggressive subtype of squamous cell carcinoma. Due to its highly invasive biological characteristics, the prognosis of sarcomatoid squamous cell carcinoma in the skin area is usually poor. CASE REPORT This study reports a rare case of a skin tumor involving a 48-year-old male patient with a diagnosis of sarcomatoid squamous cell carcinoma. The patient presented with multiple primary squamous cell carcinomas on both hands and a sarcomatoid tumor on the third finger of the right hand over a 2-year period. The patient exhibited c

Results of the Use of Platelet-Rich Plasma in the Donor Site of Split-Thickness Skin Grafts: An Exploratory Cohort Study.

Split-thickness skin autografts are commonly used to treat extensive cutaneous defects. However, donor site morbidity, including pain, bleeding, and delayed epithelialization, remains a major clinical challenge. This study evaluates whether applying autologous platelet-rich plasma (PRP) to the donor site improves healing outcomes. A prospective cohort study was conducted at a tertiary-level academic hospital in Colombia. The study protocol was approved by the local Institutional Ethics Committee. Adult patients (> 18 years) undergoing split-thickness skin grafts for trauma, burns, oncologic re

Pleomorphic undifferentiated sarcoma arising in a burn scar: Report of a case and review of literature.

The skin is the largest organ in the human body, and skin cancers are some of the most common malignancies seen across the world. About 80% of all skin cancers are basal cell carcinomas (BCC), 16% are squamous cell cancers (SCC), and 4% are melanomas. In contrast, the most common cancers that arise in a burn scar are squamous cell cancers. The burned area is at risk of constant and chronic irritation due to activities of daily living because the covering lacks hydration and elasticity, as compared to normal skin. Malignant transformation of these areas is accelerated by the prolonged duration

Concurrent Nasal Sebaceous Carcinoma and Right-Hand Squamous Cell Carcinoma: A Case Report and Literature Review.

Cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma (cSCC) is the second most common nonmelanoma skin cancer with an increasing incidence. Sebaceous carcinoma (SC) is a rare, highly aggressive malignant tumor of cutaneous appendage origin, mainly occurring in the head and neck region (most commonly in the ocular area), and extremely rare in the nasal region. A literature review showed that only 3 cases of collision tumors composed of SC and squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) have been reported previously, and there is no report of concurrent SC and cSCC in different sites of the same patient. Combined with a literat
