The impact of noninfective enteritis and colitis on outcomes following shoulder arthroplasty: a propensity-matched retrospective cohort study of 8,574 patients.

BACKGROUND: Patients with noninfective enteritis and colitis (NIEC), a term including Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis, and other chronic inflammatory bowel diseases, are more likely to have decreased bone mineral density due to chronic inflammation and impaired vitamin D absorption. Previous studies have assessed acute post-operative complications of patients with NIEC undergoing shoulder arthroplasty (SA). The purpose of this study is to explore the long-term impact of NIEC on SA revision rates and mechanical complications. METHODS: A retrospective cohort study using the TriNetX Research

Nitrate Enhances Gastric Mucosa Defense and Repair Process in Ethanol-Induced Gastric Ulcer Rats via the Notch-Tff2 Pathway.

Gastric mucosal integrity is essential for maintaining systemic homeostasis, serving as the primary defense against external insults. Ethanol ingestion is a major clinical cause of gastric mucosal injury, yet effective prevention or treatment remains limited. This study investigates the protective role of nitrate against ethanol-induced gastric ulcers and its underlying mechanisms. In vivo, nitrate significantly ameliorated ethanol-induced gastric bleeding, edema, inflammation, and mucus layer thinning in rats, while strengthening the vascular endothelial barrier. Transcriptomic analyses and t

Nano-engineered mesenchymal stem cells as a platform for targeted and biologically regulated drug delivery in ocular surface inflammation.

Transplantation of human mesenchymal stem cells (hMSCs) has demonstrated safety and efficacy in the treatment of the inflamed and damaged ocular surface in patients with limbal stem cell deficiency (LSCD). However, this strategy alone is often insufficient to fully resolve clinical signs such as corneal opacity, neovascularization, ulceration, chronic inflammation, vision loss, and pain. The aim of this work was to nano-engineer hMSCs with fluorometholone-loaded nanostructured lipid carriers (FML-NLCs) to develop a combined cell-based drug delivery strategy capable of achieving sustained drug

Hericium erinaceus Extracts Exert Gastroprotective Effects Through Modulation of the Gut Microbiota and Metabolites.

Hericium erinaceus (H. erinaceus) is a traditional edible and medicinal fungus with a long history of use in gastrointestinal protection. Although its therapeutic potential in gastric health has been widely acknowledged, the underlying mechanisms by which it modulates the gut microbiota and affects metabolic profiles in the context of gastric diseases remain incompletely understood. On the basis of the "gut microbiota and metabolites" regulatory network, this study elucidated the mechanism of H. erinaceus extract (HEE) in alleviating ethanol-induced acute gastric injury. The results showed tha

Bioadhesive Alginate/Chitosan Hydrogels for Sustained Probiotic Delivery and Enhanced Antibacterial Treatment of Oral Ulcers.

Recurrent aphthous ulcers (RAU) are highly prevalent oral mucosal lesions, while current therapies are limited by short residence time and poor efficacy in the dynamic oral environment. Probiotics such as Lactobacillus reuteri (L. reuteri) exhibit antimicrobial, immunomodulatory, and tissue-repair functions; however, their direct application is restricted by low stability and retention in the oral cavity. In this study, L. reuteri-loaded sodium alginate/chitosan composite hydrogels were developed via ionic crosslinking as a bioadhesive platform for local delivery. The hydrogels exhibited well-

Autologous skin microfragments as a regenerative approach for chronic wound healing and burn sequelae.

Chronic wounds represent a significant healthcare challenge, necessitating innovative regenerative approaches. Autologous skin micrografts (ASMs) offers a promising solution for impaired wound healing. The technique involves mechanical disaggregation of full-thickness skin punch biopsies into micrografts, which are then injected or combined with a biological scaffold to promote healing. This retrospective case series presents our center's experience treating chronic wounds and burn sequelae using ASMs. Twelve cases involving ten patients were analyzed, with indications ranging from chronic ulc
