Sonoelastographic Evaluation of the Triangular Fibrocartilage Complex Injuries Compared to Coronal T2 &Gradient-echo MRI Images: A cross sectional study.

BACKGROUND: The triangular fibrocartilage complex (TFCC) is a key fibrocartilaginous and ligamentous structure located on the ulnar side of the wrist. It plays a crucial role in separating the ulnocarpal joint from the distal radioulnar joint (DRUJ) and is essential for stabilizing the DRUJ. In addition to maintaining joint stability, the TFCC also functions as a shock absorber, distributing axial loads transmitted through the ulnar aspect of the wrist. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the diagnostic utility of high resolution ultrasound and strain elastography in detecting TFCC injuries, focusing prim

Hsa_circ_0017109 Facilitates Formaldehyde-induced Pulmonary Epithelial Mesenchymal Transition via the miR-191-5p/CDK6 Axis.

Formaldehyde (FA) is a ubiquitous environmental pollutant and a classified Group I carcinogen that poses significant respiratory health risks. Although circular RNAs (circRNAs) are known regulators in various pathologies, their specific roles in FA-induced lung injury remain poorly understood. This study aims to elucidate the function and underlying mechanism of hsa_circ_0017109 in FA-induced pulmonary epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT). We established FA exposure models using BEAS-2B cells and Balb/c mice. In vitro, both short- and long-term FA exposure induced a mesenchymal-like morphol

Tissue-level distal tibia simulations to assess strain as a predictor of AIS 2 ankle injuries.

OBJECTIVE: Ankle injury is one of the most common AIS 2 motor vehicle crash injury in the lower extremity. Prior work suggests females may be at greater risk for ankle fracture than males. Accurately predicting such ankle injuries using human body models (HBMs), particularly in frontal collisions, presents a unique challenge due to the complex loading mechanisms and differences in local geometry. Injury predictors derived from tissue level testing may be able to help overcome these challenges through strain-based injury prediction. This study aimed to provide tissue-level strain data for injur

Physical Therapy Rehabilitation Facilitated With Mindfulness Training for a Post-surgical Tibial Fracture Managed With Ilizarov: A Case Report.

Tibial fractures occur after low- and high-energy trauma caused by indirect and direct impacts, respectively. Surgical site infection (SSI) after open reduction and internal fixation has significant socioeconomic and quality-of-life effects for the patient. Tibia fractures are a common and often complicated injury that can lead to infection after surgical fixation. Corrective surgery requires an external fixator, such as the Ilizarov fixator, which helps in non-union fractures to reunite. After the external fixation, the patient is immobilised for a long period of time. Therefore, physiotherap

Symmetrical basal ganglia involvement in pediatric neuropsychiatric lupus: MRI findings in a rare presentation.

Bilateral basal ganglia involvement is an uncommon but treatable manifestation of neuropsychiatric systemic lupus erythematosus (NPSLE) that is rarely described in pediatric patients and is frequently omitted from the standard differential diagnosis for bilateral basal ganglia lesions in childhood. We report an adolescent girl with a recent diagnosis of systemic lupus erythematosus who presented with acute neuropsychiatric deterioration, including altered mental status and seizures. Brain magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) demonstrated symmetrical T2-weighted/fluid-attenuated inversion recovery

Glycosylation in Neurological Disorders: Mechanisms, Crosstalk, and Therapeutic Implications.

Neurological disorders pose a major global health challenge for complicated pathogenesis and a lack of effective curative treatments. As a post-translational modification, glycosylation has emerged as a multifunctional regulator in the nervous system, influencing key processes including receptor activation, cell adhesion, and immune surveillance. Its dysfunction is increasingly recognized as a shared mechanism across various neurological disorders. This review synthesizes the molecular mechanisms of glycosylation within a novel framework of four neurological disorder categories: neurodevelopme

Claudin-5 regulates mitochondrial bioenergetics and protects the heart against myocardial infarction.

Claudin-5 (Cldn5) is traditionally recognized as a key component of endothelial tight junctions, however, its potential intracellular function within cardiomyocytes remains largely unexplored. This study aims to explore the molecular mechanisms underlying the cardioprotective role of Cldn5 on myocardial infarction (MI). We identified mitochondrial localization of Cldn5 in cardiomyocytes in human heart tissues and cardiomyocytes by western blot, histochemistry, immunofluorescence and immuno‑gold electron microscopy. Knockdown of Cldn5 in HL-1 cells via siRNA decreased mitochondrial number, incr

Lag screw vs miniplate fixation in treatment of condylar neck fractures: A systematic review.

BACKGROUND: Fractures of the mandibular condyle region, particularly high condylar neck and condylar process fractures can lead to tremendous functional and aesthetic impairments and are challenging to treat. A conservative approach is the treatment of choice in non-displaced cases. However, fractures with signifi cant displacement pose considerable diffi culty as they require surgical intervention. Various techniques, including lag screws and miniplates, are currently available. This review aimed to assess the usage patterns and outcomes of lag screw and miniplate fi xation techniques in case

Single-cell RNA sequencing reveals chondrocyte heterogeneity and fibrocartilage transition in osteonecrosis of the femoral head.

Cartilage degeneration in osteonecrosis of the femoral head (ONFH) is closely associated with chondrocyte heterogeneity. Single-cell RNA sequencing was performed on 50,851 chondrocytes from 10 ONFH patients and 10 controls. The findings were further validated using an in vitro chondrocyte injury model induced by dexamethasone. Nine chondrocyte subtypes were identified, among which COL1A1⁺ chondrocytes (exhibiting fibrotic features and Hippo-YAP pathway activation) and COL2A1⁺ chondrocytes (displaying a reparative hyaline cartilage phenotype) were significantly enriched in ONFH. Immunohistochem

Forsythiaside A suppresses PANoptosis to alleviate senecionine-induced hepatotoxicity.

ETHNOPHARMACOLOGICAL RELEVANCE: Senecio scandens Buch.-Ham. ex D.Don (Qianliguang) is widely used in China, but its clinical application is limited due to the presence of pyrrolizidine alkaloids (PAs), which are well-known natural hepatotoxins. Forsythia suspensa (Thunb.) Vahl (Lianqiao), traditionally applied for heat-clearing and detoxification, is often combined with S. scandens in clinical practice. According to the detoxification theory of traditional Chinese herbal compatibility, F. suspensa may alleviate PA-induced hepatotoxicity. AIM OF THE STUDY: To identify bioactive compounds from

Stage-specific targeting of the GABAergic system in ischemic stroke: mechanisms and therapeutic strategies.

Neural injury and functional recovery after ischemic stroke are strongly time dependent. The acute phase is dominated by energy failure, ionic disequilibrium, excitotoxicity, spreading depolarization, and amplification of inflammation; the subacute phase is characterized by progressive network reorganization and competing forms of plasticity; and the chronic phase predominantly involves adaptive remodeling of residual networks. As the principal inhibitory neurotransmitter system in the central nervous system, gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) does not exert uniformly protective or detrimental eff

Aminoglycoside injury, but not genetic hair cell ablation, preferentially reduces Type Ic spiral ganglion neurons.

Spiral ganglion neurons (SGNs) are molecularly heterogeneous, and low-spontaneous-rate (Type Ic) SGNs are considered important for suprathreshold auditory processing, including encoding sounds in noisy environments. Preferential vulnerability of Type Ic SGNs has been reported in conditions in which primary neural injury is thought to play a major role, such as aging and noise exposure. However, it remains unclear whether preferential Type Ic vulnerability is shared across cochlear injury paradigms or varies with the nature of injury. Here, we investigated subtype-specific patterns of SGN degen
