OBJECTIVE: To investigate the correlation between the positional relationship of the TMJ disc and condyle on MRI and the therapeutic efficacy of temporomandibular intra-articular injection in patients with Anterior Disc Displacement without Reduction(ADDWoR). MATERIALS AND METHODS: Retrospectively included 74 patients (74 joints) with ADDWoR who completed four temporomandibular intra-articular injections and underwent 3-month follow-up. On MRI images at closed-mouth and maximum-opening positions, measured the disc angle relative to the condyle before treatment(Angle), and the disc anterior dis

OBJECTIVES: This study aimed to analyze the correlation between disc position and condylar position and morphology through fused cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) and magnetic resonance (MR) images.
METHODS: Patients exhibiting temporomandibular disorder symptoms were included, and joints with poor osseous consistency were excluded. Angle of disc was measured in the fused image using the method proposed in this study. Joint spaces were measured, and condylar morphology was assessed in cone-beam computed tomography images. Statistical analysis was performed to examine the reliability of the

CASE: A 75-year-old woman on long-term hemodialysis sustained anterior shoulder dislocation without a fracture. Four months later, she presented with persistent shoulder pain and limited motion. Imaging revealed humeral head osteonecrosis (Cruess stage V) and a massive rotator cuff tear. Reverse shoulder arthroplasty was performed with favorable outcome.
CONCLUSION: Osteonecrosis of the humeral head following anterior shoulder dislocation without a fracture is rare. To our knowledge, this is the first reported case in a dialysis-dependent patient. This case highlights the need for increased c

The medial patellofemoral ligament (MPFL) is of critical importance for patellar stability and is universally incompetent in patients with patella dislocations. However, radiological (magnetic resonance imaging [MRI]) assessment of the MPFLs' integrity following dislocation is variable, adding confusion to patients and providers during treatment decision-making. We aimed to assess the reliability of MRI to evaluate MPFL integrity by measuring inter- and intraobserver agreement between a musculoskeletal radiologist and an orthopaedic surgeon, specializing in sports medicine using a novel standa

Retropatellar (RP) chondral defects are commonly associated with trauma, sports-related injuries, or patellar dislocations. Effective management typically requires both cartilage repair and correction of underlying predisposing biomechanical factors. However, conventional imaging modalities may fail to detect subtle abnormalities. We describe a young female with persistent anterior knee pain in the absence of trauma or instability. Imaging studies, including radiographs and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), confirmed an RP chondral defect, with no evidence of patella alta, malalignment or signi

PURPOSE: To establish an automated, landmark-based patellar coordinate system for standardized alignment, develop a patellar statistical shape model (SSM), and quantify 3D morphological variations associated with patellar dislocation (PD).
METHODS: Patellar surface models were reconstructed from CT/MRI scans of 54 participants (33 PD, 21 controls). An automated coordinate system was established and quantitatively validated. Demographic/morphometric risk factors were assessed using logistic regression. An SSM was built for the entire cohort, and principal component analysis (PCA) was used to e

The hip is a complex load-bearing joint susceptible to both acute traumatic and chronic overuse injuries. Traumatic injuries, such as acute fractures, dislocations, apophyseal avulsions, and muscle tears, typically follow high-energy events. In contrast, overuse injuries, for example, femoroacetabular impingement, stress fractures, labral degeneration, and greater trochanteric pain syndrome, arise gradually from repetitive mechanical overload. Early and accurate diagnosis requires a multimodal imaging approach: radiographs for baseline assessment, computed tomography for detailed osseous injur

AIMS: Numerous studies have identified risk factors for recurrent anterior shoulder dislocation, but the exact impact of each remains unclear. This study analyzes outcomes after arthroscopic bony Bankart repair (ABBR) and evaluates how time to surgery, number of preoperative instability events, age, glenoid bone loss (GBL), glenoid bone fragment (GBF), age at surgery, and preoperative Western Ontario Shoulder Instability (WOSI) scores influence recurrence.
METHODS: A retrospective review was conducted of patients who underwent ABBR between January 2008 and December 2018. Data included demogra

BACKGROUND: Static posterior shoulder subluxation (SPSL) is associated with both glenoid retroversion and altered acromial morphology. Although abnormal glenoid anatomy has been considered a crucial etiological factor, the biomechanical role of acromial anatomy remains incompletely understood.
HYPOTHESIS: Combined acromial and glenoid malalignment would produce greater posterior humeral head translation than either deformity alone, and targeted corrections could restore posterior stability.
STUDY DESIGN: Controlled laboratory study.
METHODS: Six fresh-frozen cadaveric shoulders underwent te

INTRODUCTION: Posterior shoulder dislocation (PSD) is less common than anterior dislocation (ASD) but is increasingly recognized. Understanding the osseous characteristics of PSD is essential for guiding management. However, direct comparative radiographic analyses between PSD and ASD remain limited. The purpose of this study was to perform a matched-pair radiographic comparison of acromial, glenoidal, and (reverse) Hill-Sachs lesion morphology between patients with first-time traumatic PSD and ASD, and to identify osseous features that may predispose to posterior shoulder instability.

The patellofemoral (PF) joint plays an integral role in knee biomechanics. Disorders of the PF joint are prevalent and a common source of anterior knee pain, particularly in younger and active patients. Abnormalities related to patellar tracking can lead to recurrent lateral patellar dislocation, early degenerative changes, and poor clinical outcomes if not detected and treated appropriately. Therefore, early recognition of PF instability is imperative to preserving joint function and improving long-term patient outcomes. Several alignment and morphological abnormalities are known risk factors

UNLABELLED: We assessed the association of TBS with radiographic severity of Colles-type DRFs in female patients aged ≥ 50 years. The results indicated a significantly higher incidence of intra-articular DRFs and DUFs in low-TBS group, independent of displacement. Deteriorated bone microarchitecture may be associated with the severity of low-energy osteoporotic DRFs.
PURPOSE: This study investigated the effect of the trabecular bone score (TBS), which reflects bone microarchitecture, on the radiographic severity of Colles-type distal radius fractures (DRFs).
METHODS: 104 patients aged ≥ 50 y

PURPOSE: We aimed to investigate associations between joint effusion (JE) and age, sex, disc displacement, and degenerative condylar changes in the temporomandibular joints (TMJ) through multivariate analysis of a large MRI dataset and to determine its clinical significance. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This retrospective study analysed MRI data from 761 outpatients (1,522 TMJs; average age: 45.8 ± 18.2 years; 582 women, 179 men) with temporomandibular disorder symptoms who underwent MRI examination. Degenerative condylar changes were assessed, and JE was classified into five categories: none, trivi

BACKGROUND: Developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH) is a common orthopedic disorder characterized by abnormal development of the hip joint, which can lead to pain, instability, and early-onset osteoarthritis if left untreated. Its etiology is multifactorial, involving both genetic and environmental factors.
METHODS: This study investigated the association between selected single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) related to joint and bone development and the occurrence of DDH. It assessed potential copy number variations (CNVs) in key skeletal genes using MLPA. A total of 125 individuals were e

The pathoanatomy of anterior glenohumeral dislocations in elderly patients is different from those in younger patients in that rotator cuff tears, large glenoid fractures, and peripheral nerve injury are more common. In addition, decision making is made more complex by the wide spectrum of preexisting degenerative pathology, functional demands, and social considerations, such as arthritis, chronic rotator cuff tears, and upper extremity demand for ambulation. Many patients with a first-time dislocation can be treated conservatively with a brief period of immobilization followed by physical reh
