BACKGROUND: Early onset scoliosis (EOS), defined as scoliosis presenting in patients 9 years of age and younger, presents unique surgical challenges, including dysplastic and narrow pedicles that heighten the risk of pedicle breach and neurovascular injury during scoliosis surgery. Robotic-assisted navigation (RAN) has demonstrated improved pedicle screw placement accuracy compared with conventional freehand and fluoroscopy-guided techniques; however, data on its application in the EOS population remain limited. This study characterizes the intraoperative experiences, technical challenges, and

BACKGROUND: Occipital cervical fusion (OCF) is an effective method for immobilizing the cranial cervical junction (CCJ). OCF failure is uncommon but can be associated with kyphosis after laminectomy. Revision OCF after long-segment cervical laminectomy is challenging, as grafting options are more limited.
OBSERVATIONS: The patient was a 53-year-old man with pseudarthrosis, posterior displacement of the occipital plate, a chronic type II odontoid fracture with anterior subluxation of the fractured dens, a fracture of the C1 vertebrae with anterior displacement, and a previous 6- to 7-cm lamine

Traumatic thoracic spondyloptosis is a rare, severe spinal injury that poses a major surgical challenge. Traditional approaches often involve complex mechanical maneuvers and increased patient risk. This case report describes a posterior-only reduction and stabilization technique using a distraction trauma system, monoaxial screws, and neuromonitoring, offering an alternative to more invasive strategies such as corpectomy or multi-rod constructs. A patient with traumatic lateral T6-T7 spondyloptosis underwent single-stage posterior reduction using a spine distraction trauma system. The techniq

PURPOSE: Sagittal plane changes after isolated lumbar fusion for pediatric idiopathic scoliosis are under-reported in current literature. Understanding how the thoracic spine compensates after this surgery will help optimize surgical technique. This study aims to determine the thoracic compensation and the change in other sagittal plane variables after lumbar fusion.
METHODS: This was an IRB approved retrospective study that included patients if they were between 11 and 18 with idiopathic scoliosis with lumbar major patterns that underwent isolated thoracolumbar/lumbar fusion. Spinal radiogra

We describe the clinical and radiographic outcomes of a patient presenting with post‑traumatic loss of cervical lordosis following a motor vehicle collision (MVC). A 27‑year‑old man reported to a spine rehabilitation clinic complaining of neck pain, low back pain, and headaches following an MVC one month prior. The patient scored moderate disability: 36% and 34% on the neck and headache indices, respectively. Radiograph screening of the cervical spine demonstrated severe anterior head translation (AHT) of 59.9 mm (ideal = 0 mm), complete loss of the cervical lordosis (C2-C7 absolute rotation a

We report sustained improvements in thoracic hyperkyphosis, sagittal balance, and health-related quality of life in a 26-year-old male with Scheuermann's disease using Chiropractic BioPhysics® (CBP®) rehabilitation with a 28-month long-term follow-up. Scheuermann's is associated with significant reductions in quality-of-life outcomes and poor psychosocial outcomes. Body dysmorphic disorders and altered self-perception further deteriorate patient-reported outcomes. Reductions in abnormal spine conditions can reduce the likelihood of disability and chronic conditions. A 26-year-old male with pos

BACKGROUND: Zero-P VA device is a unique zero-profile device comprising only two integrated variable-angle screws which may provide inferior mechanical stability compared with other types of devices. There is a lack of comprehensive clinical and radiological evidence comparing the plate-cage construct (PCC) and the Zero-P VA device in single-level anterior cervical discectomy and fusion (ACDF).
METHODS: We retrospectively reviewed consecutive patients who underwent single-level ACDF using either the Zero-P VA device (50 cases) or the PCC (51 cases). Clinical outcomes were evaluated using the

Progressive cervical myelopathy associated with acquired cervical deformity is uncommon and presents substantial diagnostic and surgical challenges, particularly when the deformity is rigid and complicated by anomalous vascular anatomy. Severe focal stenosis at the apex of cervical kyphosis and segmental autofusion may increase the risk of neurologic injury during decompression and hinder deformity correction. We report the case of a 55-year-old woman with progressive cervical myelopathy in the setting of an acquired cervical kyphoscoliosis. Although no definitive traumatic event was identifi

BACKGROUND: Cervical kyphotic deformity is a recognized complication following posterior cervical spine surgery, particularly after laminectomy. However, post-laminoplasty kyphosis remains an underreported entity. We present a case of progressive symptomatic cervical kyphotic deformity following laminoplasty for intramedullary tumor resection.
CASE DESCRIPTION: A 36-year-old male presented with progressive cervicalgia and radicular symptoms in the right arm. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) revealed an intramedullary hemangioblastoma at C5 with an associated cyst from C3 to C6. The patient un

INTRODUCTION: cervical spondylosis is a disorder that is characterized by cervical and shoulder pain as the main symptoms. In some cases, it presents with myelopathy, which causes important functional disability in the adult population. There have been many surgical techniques described for treatment, with anterior cervical discectomy and fusion being the gold-standard. Studies have shown that using a cervical mesh as anterior support during a corpectomy allows for a wider decompression than other techniques; this surgical treatment comes with controversy as cage subsidence remains the greates

OBJECTIVE: To determine whether a stabilized C-reactive protein–albumin–lymphocyte (CALLY) index measured 4–6 weeks after percutaneous kyphoplasty (PKP) independently predicts adjacent vertebral fracture (AVF), and to compare its discrimination with other immuno-nutritional indices. METHODS: Consecutive patients undergoing single-level PKP for osteoporotic vertebral compression fracture at a tertiary center between January 2020 and December 2024 were analyzed. Stabilized laboratory tests were obtained 4–6 weeks postoperatively. CALLY was calculated as albumin (g/L) × lymphocyte count (×10⁹/L)

BACKGROUND: Adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS) is the most common form of spinal deformity encountered in paediatric orthopaedic practice, and surgical correction with posterior pedicle-screw constructs has become the reference standard for curves progressing beyond conservative thresholds. The axial translational technique (ATT) relies on sequential derotation and translation of the deformed spine toward a pre-contoured rod, avoiding the forceful segmental manoeuvres that characterise older cantilever and direct-rotation methods. Data describing this technique from South Asian centres rema

BACKGROUND CONTEXT: Existing surgical alignment goals derived from populations with a high pelvic incidence (PI) are not applicable for patients with adult spinal deformity (ASD) and a low PI, who account for a high proportion of Asian populations. The surgical treatment for patients with a low PI is challenging because of their limited pelvic compensation capacity and because there are no criteria to guide corrective spinal deformity surgery in this population.
PURPOSE: To develop and validate a tailored sagittal correction strategy for patients with ASD and a low PI.

Background/Objectives: Degenerative cervical myelopathy (DCM) is the leading cause of non-traumatic spinal cord dysfunction in adults. Both anterior and posterior surgical approaches are widely used for its treatment, yet their comparative impact on clinical outcomes and complication profiles remains clinically relevant. This study aimed to describe early and one-year postoperative outcomes between anterior and posterior surgical strategies in a consecutive single-center cohort. Methods: We conducted a retrospective single-center study of 102 consecutive adult patients surgically treated for D
