OBJECTIVE: Non-specific exercise therapies are widely used in the conservative management of adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS) because of their accessibility and broad applicability. However, the comparative effectiveness of different non-specific exercise modalities remains unclear. This study aimed to systematically review the available evidence and compare the effects of different non-specific exercise therapies on AIS using network meta-analysis.
METHODS: PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, the Cochrane Library, CNKI, Wanfang, and VIP databases were searched from inception to September 20

PURPOSE: Severe scoliosis remains challenging for 3D vertebral segmentation because annotated pathological computed tomography (CT) data are scarce.
METHODS: We synthesize scoliosis-like CT volumes by jointly warping public healthy spine scans and labels and then train nnU-Net CNN and PRIMUS models under matched compute. We evaluate on in-house out-of-distribution (OOD) adolescent scoliosis CTs and the public Spine1K dataset.
RESULTS: On 18 in-house adolescent scoliosis CTs, the best CNN setting increased mean Dice from 0.765 to 0.842 and vertebra success rate from 73.2 to 81.6%. In 55 surge

OBJECTIVE: The T4-L1 pelvic angle (T4-L1PA) has been proposed as a novel alignment target associated with mechanical complications in long-segment adult spinal deformity (ASD) surgery. However, its relationship to proximal junctional failure (PJF) and its relevance in shorter thoracolumbar constructs remain unclear. The aim of this study was to evaluate whether T4-L1PA and L1 pelvic angle (L1PA) guidelines predict PJF in ASD surgery and to examine how early proximal reciprocal changes influence this relationship.
METHODS: A prospective ASD database was reviewed for patients who underwent fusi

INTRODUCTION: Decreased pulmonary function in patients with adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS) indicates restricted and obstructive ventilatory dysfunction. However, few studies have investigated obstructive ventilatory dysfunction, and the association between postoperative residual spinal and thoracic deformities and bronchial obstruction remains unclear. Therefore, this study aimed to quantify postoperative bronchial narrowing and investigate its association with residual spinal and thoracic deformities and pulmonary function in patients with AIS.
METHODS: We retrospectively reviewed 56

UNLABELLED: Idiopathic scoliosis (IS) can progress silently during growth. Early primary care detection prevents curve progression and reduces treatment burden. This study aimed to assess the role of family physicians in screening, diagnosis, counseling, and follow-up of adolescents with IS, and to evaluate primary care attributes using the Primary Care Assessment Survey (PCAS). This cross-sectional study included 150 patients with IS followed at a university orthopedics clinic in Türkiye. Data were collected via structured telephone interviews using a custom 13-item questionnaire and the vali

To our knowledge, we report the first combined homozygous deletion of ALCAM and CBLB at 3q13.11-q13.12. The patient, a 14-year-old boy born to consanguineous parents, had a multisystem phenotype with severe congenital ocular and craniofacial anomalies, early-onset osteoporosis, progressive scoliosis, growth failure, congenital heart defect, humoral immunodeficiency, and chronic inflammatory findings. SNP array identified a 2.5-Mb homozygous deletion spanning ALCAM and CBLB, and expression studies confirmed complete absence of ALCAM and CBLB expression. Whole-exome sequencing did not identify a

Spinal deformity surgery is associated with substantial blood loss and high transfusion requirements, exposing patients to the risks of allogeneic blood transfusion. Intraoperative cell salvage (ICS) is widely used in patient blood management strategies, yet its clinical efficacy and safety in spinal deformity surgery, particularly in the context of contemporary antifibrinolysis and restrictive transfusion parameters, remain uncertain. We conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis of observational studies comparing spinal deformity surgery performed with versus without ICS. PubMed, Embase

BACKGROUND DATA: Pediatric patients undergoing surgery for secondary scoliosis are at special risk for surgical site infections (SSIs). The application of dexamethasone (Dexa) for perioperative prophylaxis of postoperative nausea and vomiting is an established method. Despite the benefits, there is still concern regarding an increased risk for SSI.
OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to evaluate the association between perioperative Dexa administration for PONV prophylaxis and the occurrence of SSI requiring surgical revision in pediatric patients undergoing surgery for secondary scoliosis.

INTRODUCTION: Previous studies have emphasized the importance of thoracic kyphosis (TK) restoration and sagittal alignment for long-term outcomes following posterior spinal fusion (PSF) for adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS). Although various equations have been introduced to predict the ideal regional alignment of the thoracic or lumbar spine, no study has validated these equations or investigated the influence of achieving these patient-specific ideal regional parameters on patient-reported health-related quality of life (HRQoL) outcomes following PSF for AIS.
METHODS: A retrospective co
