The protective effects of diltiazem were studied in isolated perfused rat hearts after 10, 20 and 30 minutes of anoxia and 10 minutes of reoxygenation. We performed phono-ecocardiograms in 11 normotensive patients with scleroderma, all of them below age 50. We compared the parameters measured with a control group of normal subjects. Ten patients (six women and four men) with endomyocardial disease, four with and six without hypereosinophilia, were studied by two-dimensional echocardiography (2-D echo). The clinical and histological factors affecting prognosis for 70 patients with neuroblastomas were tested with regression analysis. Generalized tumor disease was found to be of primary importance. Significant predictors for prognosis in patients without distant metastases were operation, with or without other therapy, age less than one year and histology. When all recorded factors were analyzed the explanation value only reached 0.42. This indicates that the variation in prognosis depends upon other factors as well.

The cases of 6 patients who had ventricular wall rupture after isolated mitral valve replacement and were seen in our service are reviewed. An estimation of wear was carried out on 100 of 340 UHMW polyethylene sockets (RCH 1000) that were implanted with Protasul-10 prostheses furnished with a chromium plated head.
