Primary cutaneous gamma-delta T-cell lymphoma (PCGDTCL) is a rare cytotoxic lymphoma with considerable clinicopathological heterogeneity. We report three patients with unusual presentations, including a TCR-silent phenotype with spontaneous regression followed by rapid progression, a granulomatous variant with a prolonged indolent course, and a lupus panniculitis-like form. Molecular studies demonstrated persistent clonal disease and identified recurrent alterations involving TET2, STAT3, CDKN2A, MAPK1, PDCD1 and TNFAIP3, with acquisition of additional mutations during disease evolution. BACKGROUND: Postoperative complications and delayed physical recovery are significant problems following emergency abdominal surgery. Physiotherapy aims to aid recovery and prevent complications in the acute phase after surgery and is commonplace in most first-world hospitals. Despite ubiquitous service provision, no well-designed, adequately powered, parallel-group, randomised controlled trial has investigated the effect of physiotherapy on the incidence of respiratory complications, paralytic ileus, rate of physical recovery, ongoing need for formal sub-acute rehabilitation, hospital length

BACKGROUND: Emerging evidence suggests that imatinib may influence immune pathways and be associated with adverse events (AE) with potential immune involvement, some leading to treatment interruption or irreversible damage. However, systematic characterization remains limited.
METHODS: We analyzed FDA Adverse Event Reporting System data (2004-2024), extracting reports with imatinib as the primary suspect. Immune-related AEs were identified using standardized MedDRA queries. Disproportionality analyses were performed using reporting odds ratio (ROR), proportional reporting ratio, multi-item ga

Coxiella burnetii is an intracellular bacterium responsible for an anthropozoonosis that can be asymptomatic or manifest as acute or chronic Q fever. This extensive series of 588 patients represents one of the largest single-center studies on sporadic acute Q fever, highlighting the Canary Islands as a high-incidence region in Spain. Epidemiologically, the domestic cycle is the primary driver of infection, with caprine livestock serving as the main reservoir, showing a local prevalence of 60.4%. Transmission is predominantly airborne via aerosols; the environmental resilience of C. burnetii fa

BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: Erythema nodosum (EN) is a septal panniculitis clinically characterized by bilateral erythematous tender subcutaneous nodules typically found on the shins. While recognized as the most common form of panniculitis, it is less frequently documented in children and infants. Currently, there are no established guidelines to diagnose and manage EN in children. This review aims to consolidate current data on triggers, clinical manifestations, and treatment options, and propose a management algorithm for pediatric erythema nodosum (PEN).
METHODS: A systematic literature review

A 2-year-old, spayed female, mixed breed dog presented for evaluation of recurrent febrile episodes over 5 months, intermittently accompanied by the development of SC nodules. Histopathologic examination of the SC lesions was indicative of panniculitis. Bartonella vinsonii subsp. berkhoffii genotype III DNA was amplified and sequenced from an excised SC nodule. Indirect immunofluorescence antibody titer was 1:64, whereas Bartonella blood PCR was negative. Babesia odocoilei-like species DNA was amplified and sequenced from 2 blood samples obtained 77 days apart at the time of febrile episodes.

This article reports the clinical, diagnostic, and therapeutic aspects of a rare case of cutaneous and subcutaneous scedosporiosis in a 16-year-old domestic cat. The animal presented with a painful, ulcerated nodule at the base of the tail. Histopathology and fungal culture confirmed a pyogranulomatous dermatitis with hyaline hyphae, and molecular analysis identified Scedosporium sphaerospermum, a soil-dwelling fungus newly described. Despite targeted antifungal treatment with itraconazole and topical ciclopirox olamine, the cat developed systemic complications and died. This case emphasizes t

In recent decades, there has been a call for change among all stakeholders involved in scoliosis management. Parents of children with scoliosis have complained about the so-called "wait and see" approach that far too many doctors use when evaluating children's scoliosis curves between 10° and 25°. Observation, Physiotherapy Scoliosis Specific Exercises (PSSE) and bracing for idiopathic scoliosis during growth are all therapeutic interventions accepted by the 2011 International Society on Scoliosis Orthopaedic and Rehabilitation Treatment (SOSORT). The standard features of these interventions a

BACKGROUND: Mycobacterium avium complex (MAC) is the most common non-tuberculous mycobacteria (NTM) causing disease in immunosuppressed patients. People living with human immunodeficiency virus (PLHIV) typically present with disseminated infections characterized by non-specific constitutional symptoms such as fever, night sweats, and weight loss. Cutaneous lesions in disseminated MAC are rare and include panniculitis, granulomas, pustules, papules, nodules, abscesses and ulcerations, and ulcers. Here, we present two HIV patients who developed a disseminated MAC infection with skin lesions. CAS

Necrotic erythema nodosum leprosum (ENL) is a rare, severe and atypical variant of type 2 reaction characterized skin lesions mimicking vasculitis. Bacilloscopy and histopathological features may not be suggestive, in patients with repeated cycles of multidrug therapy (MDT) and concomitant use of corticosteroids. A 20-year-old man previously diagnosed with multibacillary leprosy received repeated cycles of MDT, at which time he developed recurrent painful nodules that worsened to widespread necrotic ulcers. Although previous bacilloscopy was positive, repeated test during severe ulcerative pre

Nodular granulomatous phlebitis is an exceptionally rare and probably underdiagnosed form of tuberculid. It is characterized by granulomatous inflammation centered on the walls of subcutaneous veins and may clinically mimic panniculitis or superficial thrombophlebitis. We report a new case of this entity together with a comprehensive review of the literature to better delineate its clinical and histopathologic spectrum. This is a poorly recognized tuberculid in which histopathologic findings are essential for establishing the diagnosis. Awareness of this pattern is particularly important for b

CASE SUMMARY: A 3-year-old, female spayed domestic shorthair with 7 months of pyogranulomatous panniculitis was referred after culture isolation of Actinomyces species. Despite initial improvement, clinical resolution was not achieved with the dosage and duration of clindamycin therapy previously reported as adequate for actinomycosis. Surgical resection with antibiotic impregnated calcium sulfate carrier material for local delivery of ampicillin-sulbactam was pursued. The patient developed severe hypercalcemia (21.6 mg/dl, reference interval 7.8-11.3) after surgery, resolving after 7 days of

Antipathogen defense; b-caryophyllene; vector-virus mutualism Plants respond to insect herbivory by producing and releasing distinctive blends of volatile compounds. These herbivore-induced plant volatiles (HIPVs) serve several roles, including direct defense through toxic or repellent effects on herbivores and indirect defense by attracting the herbivores' natural enemies (Bleeker et al. 2009; Veyrat et al. 2016). HIPVs also act as warning signals, informing undamaged tissues within the same plant and nearby plants of a pending insect attack (Heil and Bueno 2007). HIPVs are mostly composed of

Atomoxetine (Strattera(R)) is a selective norepinephrine (noradrenaline) reuptake inhibitor that is not classified as a stimulant, and is indicated for use in patients with attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). Atomoxetine is effective and generally well tolerated. It is significantly more effective than placebo and standard current therapy and does not differ significantly from or is noninferior to immediate-release methylphenidate; however, it is significantly less effective than the extended-release methylphenidate formulation OROS(R) methylphenidate (hereafter referred to as osm

The histologic diagnosis of some cases of bovine dermatitis can be challenging. We investigated the predominant histologic patterns of dermatitis in cattle, to propose histologic pattern analysis as a diagnostic approach. Sixty-two cases of bovine dermatitis with confirmed etiologic diagnoses were selected in a 20-year retrospective study. The cases included 13 different primary and secondary diseases, ranging from infectious (48/62, 77%) to toxic/irritant-associated diseases (14/62, 23%). The cutaneous lesions were histologically classified into 11 dermatitis patterns, adapted from those desc

Whipple's disease (WD) is a rare infectious disease caused by Tropheryma whipplei , which primarily affects the gastrointestinal tract but may also involve the joints, central nervous system, and skin. Although cutaneous manifestations are often overlooked, they can provide valuable diagnostic clues. We report the case of a 54-year-old male with long-standing seronegative migratory polyarthritis refractory to conventional treatment, who subsequently developed multiple subcutaneous inflammatory nodules and systemic symptoms. Histopathological examination of these lesions revealed a non-vasculit

Adipose tissue of the extremities has been largely neglected in musculoskeletal ultrasound (US), beyond the assessment of superficial nodules or the exclusion of deep complications in superficial infections. Three developments have brought it to the fore: a more refined understanding of its anatomy and function - recognizing adipose tissue not merely as a passive fat store but as a metabolic and endocrine organ and a regulator of inflammation; advances in US technique; and the wider adoption of US across medical specialties, particularly dermatology and plastic surgery. Panniculitis refers to

Background: Mesenteric panniculitis (MP) is a chronic fibroinflammatory disorder of the mesenteric adipose tissue and is frequently considered an idiopathic condition. Its association with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), particularly ulcerative colitis (UC), remains poorly characterized, with only limited evidence available in the literature. In addition to presenting a clinical case, we performed a narrative review of the literature regarding the relationship between MP and IBD, including epidemiology, pathophysiological mechanisms, diagnostic challenges, and therapeutic approaches.
