P2RX1 Influences the Prognosis of Ph+/Ph-Like ALL through Energy and Calcium Metabolism.

OBJECTIVES: Philadelphia chromosome-positive B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia and Philadelphia-like B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (Ph+/Ph-like ALL) constitute the majority of relapsed/refractory B-ALL (R/R B-ALL) cases, highlighting an urgent need to discover new therapeutic targets. This study aims to elucidate the mechanisms underlying poor prognosis in Ph+/Ph-like ALL through transcriptome sequencing and functional cytological assays, with the goal of informing new clinical treatment strategies. RESULTS: Transcriptomic analysis of Ph+/Ph-like ALL patients revealed that low express

A Systematic Review of Social Validity Trends in Behavior Analytic Research on Major Neurocognitive Disorder.

Social validity is at the heart of applied behavior analysis, examining the extent to which the goals, interventions, and effects of a given treatment are satisfactory to treatment recipients and relevant stakeholders (Wolf, 1978). While social validity measures are critical to include across all populations, persons with Major Neurocognitive Disorder (MND) (formerly Dementia) (Emmady et al., 2022) warrant heightened attention, given both the increasing population of those living with MND and the progressive nature of the disease (WHO, 2023). The current systematic literature review therefore

Novel and unusual USP6 fusion partners in aneurysmal bone cyst and their role in pathogenesis and histopathological evaluation of this disease.

AIMS: The purpose of this study is to report novel and unusual USP6 fusion partners in aneurysmal bone cysts (ABCs). These findings may be useful in routine diagnostics as well as in studying the biology of USP6-related disorders. METHODS: A cohort of seven patients diagnosed with ABC examined between 2014 and 2023 at Motol University Hospital in Prague was included into this retrospective non-randomised study. All cases were analysed using histopathological evaluation, immunohistochemistry and Anchored multiplex RNA methods. Demographic characteristics and clinical data were also analysed.

A Large-diameter Corona Mortis Artery Encountered During Surgery for Acetabular Fracture: A Case Report and Review of Anatomical Significance.

INTRODUCTION: The corona mortis (CM) artery or ("crown of death") is a vascular anastomosis between the obturator artery and either the external iliac or inferior epigastric artery. An anastomosis is defined as one or more vessels that merge with other vessels before dividing. The CM's clinical significance arises from its potential of bleeding you can have if injured while performing any pelvic or acetabular surgeries. It is estimated that 25-33% of people have a CM artery and anatomical diameter and location variability is common. Surgeons should have a high index of suspicion and awareness.

Transoral resection of a symptomatic odontoid process aneurysmal bone cyst: illustrative case.

BACKGROUND: Aneurysmal bone cysts (ABCs) are slow-growing, expansile bone tumors most often observed in the long bones and lumbar and thoracic spine. Anterior column ABCs of the spine are rare, and few cases have described their surgical management, particularly for lesions with extension into the odontoid process and the bilateral C2 pedicles. In the present case, the authors describe a two-stage strategy for resection of a symptomatic 2.3 × 3.3 × 2.7-cm C2 ABC with cord compression in a 13-year-old patient. OBSERVATIONS: Initial tumor debulking was completed via a transoral approach, and re

Aneurysmal Bone Cyst of the Jaws: A Retrospective Analysis of 19 Cases.

OBJECTIVE: To analyse the clinical, radiographic, and pathological characteristics of aneurysmal bone cyst of the jaws (JABCs), and to provide reference for clinical diagnosis and treatment. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A retrospective study was conducted on 19 patients with JABC diagnosed from 2018 to 2022. RESULTS: Of the 19 JABC patients (5 males, 14 females, aged 7-53 years, mean 23.7), 94.7% of the lesions were in the mandible, with only 5.3% in the maxilla. Painless swelling was the most common symptom. CT typically showed bone expansion with either a unilocular or multilocular appearance an

Update on the nature of central giant cell granuloma of the jaw with a focus on the aggressive subtype.

Central giant cell granuloma (CGCG) is a benign, localised osteolytic lesion of the jaw that is categorised into non-aggressive and aggressive subtypes. In contrast to non-aggressive CGCG, aggressive CGCG is characterised by pain, paraesthesia, root resorption, rapid growth, a size of >5 cm, cortical perforation, or recurrence after surgical treatment. However, the nature of CGCG, especially aggressive CGCG, remains unclear. This study was performed to analyse the systematic and comprehensive characteristics of CGCG of the jaw, especially the aggressive subtype, and first explored the genetic

Complete remodelling post-intralesional resection of an aggressive proximal humerus aneurysmal bone cyst mimicking telangiectatic osteosarcoma.

We describe a case of an aggressive proximal humerus aneurysmal bone cyst (ABC) mimicking telangiectatic osteosarcoma with complete remodelling and reconstitution of the bone. A boy in middle childhood presented with a pathological fracture preceded by progressive right shoulder pain and swelling. Imaging and open biopsy supported the diagnosis of primary ABC with positive ubiquitin-specific protease 6 gene fusion. Treatment was initially refused, leading to significant bone erosion. Subsequently, intralesional resection and grafting were performed, confirming the ABC diagnosis. Three years po

Preoperative tumor embolization via pedicle artery sacrifice for symptomatic spinal aneurysmal bone cysts: illustrative cases.

BACKGROUND: Spinal aneurysmal bone cysts (ABCs) are challenging to manage due to high vascularity and proximity to critical structures. Two patients with large, symptomatic thoracic ABCs are presented. OBSERVATIONS: Preoperative tumor embolization via pedicle artery sacrifice was performed prior to planned resection to reduce intraoperative blood loss and the risk of postoperative neurological deficits. Less intraoperative blood loss contributes to better surgical visualization and patient stability, thereby promoting maximal safe tumor resection with reduced neurological morbidity. Coil embo

Metastatic Mimicker in Thyroid Cancer with Thyroglobulin Elevation and an FDG-Avid Recurrent Aneurysmal Bone Cyst.

Many benign bone lesions mimic skeletal metastases from thyroid cancer on imaging and even may have high metabolic uptake on 18F-FDG PET/CT. It becomes crucial to distinguish these hypermetabolic lesions (benign vs. metastasis), especially in patients with thyroglobulin elevation and negative iodine scan. The index case describes a patient with thyroid cancer having thyroglobulin elevation and negative iodine scan with a hypermetabolic aneurysmal bone cyst mimicking skeletal metastasis.

Chondroblastoma with secondary aneurysmal bone cyst of the diaphyseal ulna: A rare case report.

Chondroblastomas are rare benign cartilaginous neoplasms that primarily affect young patients. Aneurysmal bone cysts (ABCs) are also rare, accounting for 1-2% of all bone tumors, and can arise either idiopathically or as secondary lesions associated with other tumors, such as giant cell tumors or chondroblastomas. Here, we present a rare case of a secondary aneurysmal bone cyst arising in conjunction with a chondroblastoma located in the left diaphysis of the ulna.

An attempt to evaluate the use of mixed reality in surgically treated pediatric oncology patients.

Mixed reality (MR) technology is increasingly used in surgical procedures, particularly in pediatric oncological surgery. The CarnaLife Holo system (MedApp S.A., Poland) converts medical imaging data into interactive 3D holograms for preoperative planning and intraoperative use. This study presents a preliminary evaluation of MR's impact on surgical procedure (SP) duration and hospitalization (H) time. A retrospective analysis of patients treated between 2023 and 2024 compared outcomes of surgeries performed with (n = 9) and without MR. Diagnoses included pulmonary metastases, sacrococcygeal t

Cystic bone Lesions: Diagnostic pitfalls and therapeutic considerations.

Bone tumors are rare lesions that often pose diagnostic and therapeutic challenges for an orthopedic surgeon. Malignant bone lesions comprise <0.2 % of all cancers and the precise incidence of benign bone lesions is not documented. Many of these lesions appear cystic on imaging with varying number of overlapping features between benign lesions like Unicameral bone cyst, locally aggressive like Aneurysmal bone cyst, infections like hydatid cyst of bone to malignant like telangiectatic osteosarcoma. To aid the diagnosis, cystic bone lesions are classified into primary and secondary bone cysts. P

Successful Treatment of a Rapidly Enlarging Mandibular Aneurysmal Bone Cyst With Sclerotherapy and Intralesional Curettage.

An aneurysmal bone cyst (ABC) is a benign bone lesion primarily found in the metaphysis of long bones or spine, with rare occurrences in the head and neck region. We report the case of a 17-year-old female patient with a rapidly enlarging mandibular ABC. Initial imaging and biopsy confirmed the diagnosis of ABC, revealing a blood-filled lesion with multinucleated giant cells and no solid components. Owing to the lesion's size and rapid growth, hemimandibulectomy was initially considered but postponed due to concerns about aesthetic and functional outcomes. The patient underwent percutaneous sc
