BACKGROUND: Slipped capital femoral epiphysis is a prevalent pediatric hip disorder. Recent studies suggest the spine's sagittal profile may influence the proximal femoral growth plate's slippage, an aspect not extensively explored. This study utilizes finite element analysis to investigate how various spinopelvic alignments affect shear stress and growth plate slip.
METHODS: A finite element model was developed from CT scans of a healthy adult male lumbar spine, pelvis, and femurs. The model was subjected to various sagittal alignments through reorientation. Simulations of two-leg stance, on

In previous reports, hypothyroidism, hypopituitrism, and hypogonadism were common endocrine causes of SCFE, but this is the first time that congenital adrenal hyperplasia has been observed. As such, patients who have undergone long-term endocrine treatment for congenital adrenal hyperplasia could potentially be subjected to a higher risk for SCFE.

CASE: A 12-year-old boy with Klippel-Trenaunay-Weber syndrome underwent surgery for unstable slipped capital femoral epiphysis who developed pulmonary embolism postoperatively.
CONCLUSION: It is important to be vigilant about pulmonary embolism in children because it is rare but potentially fatal, especially in the presence of risk factors. Early diagnosis and treatment of unstable slipped capital femoral epiphysis are crucial to minimize immobility. Close monitoring of femoral head osteonecrosis is also necessary.

BACKGROUND: Traditional management of moderate to severe stable slipped capital femoral epiphysis (SCFE) has been in situ fixation followed by reconstructive surgery if symptoms arise. This delayed approach may lead to irreversible intra-articular damage of the hip over time. The purpose of this study was to compare radiographic and clinical outcomes of the modified Dunn procedure (MDP) versus in situ fixation followed by delayed Imhauser osteotomy (DIO).
METHODS: This was a retrospective study from a single institution between 2001 and 2021. Among 250 patients diagnosed with SCFE, a total of

BACKGROUND: The management of patients with slipped capital femoral epiphysis (SCFE) requires imaging diagnostics of good quality and accurate measurement of the degree of slippage. In Sweden, three different radiological methods are commonly used: the calcar femorale method; the Billing method; and the Head-shaft angle described by Southwick.
PURPOSE: To evaluate whether any of the three most common methods used in Sweden to measure the slip angle was more useful and reproducible than the others.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: Two experienced orthopaedists measured the slip angle in preoperative hip

BACKGROUND: The risk of developing avascular necrosis (AVN) in the setting of an unstable slipped capital femoral epiphysis (SCFE) that is undergoing treatment with the modified Dunn procedure is not well understood. In addition, since the Loder classification of unstable is reportedly different than actual intraoperatively observed instability (that is, discontinuity between the femoral head epiphysis and proximal femoral metaphysis), the overall risk of developing AVN, as well as the potential complications of treatment of these patients with the modified Dunn procedure, are unknown.

Slipped capital femoral epiphysis is a shearing injury through the growth plate of the proximal femur and is the most common hip disorder in adolescence. Delays in diagnosis persist across practice settings despite ongoing innovations in imaging. Recent insights into pathomechanics highlight the importance of femoral head surface morphology and rotational microinstability centered at the epiphyseal tubercle in causing early physeal changes, which can be detected on imaging prior to frank slip. Scrutiny of physeal morphology and comparison to the contralateral hip is critical at all stages of d

PURPOSE: Management of chronic moderate and severe slipped capital femoral epiphysis (SCFE) remains controversial. We propose that the modified trochanteric triplane osteotomy(MTTO) with a 1300 angled blade plate, without removal of bone wedge, is effective for addressing moderate and severe chronic SCFE.
METHODS: A retrospective review was performed on patients who underwent MTTO for moderate to severe chronic SCFE, with at least two years follow-up. Radiological outcomes assessed were osteotomy union, alpha angle, neck shaft angle, mechanical axis deviation and limb length discrepancy(LLD).

PURPOSE OF THE STUDY: The study aimed to evaluate the results of closed reduction and epiphyseodesis of unstable slips of the proximal femoral epiphysis. The hypothesis was that the clinical and radiological results of this method and incidence of avascular necrosis are comparable to the results of closed reduction and open reduction using surgical hip dislocation reported by literature.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: In the period 2013-2023, 20 patients were treated for unstable slips in one institution. Whereas the boys were older (mean age of 13.4 years) than girls (mean age of 11.6 years), the gen

BACKGROUND: Slipped Capital Femoral Epiphysis (SCFE) is femoral head slippage off the femoral neck through the physis occurring in children aged 8-16 years. Surgical intervention is required in all paediatric cases and there is no universal agreement on choice of surgical procedure.
RESEARCH QUESTION: What are the two-year 3D gait outcomes in children with SCFE who have undergone in-situ pinning (PIN) or modified Dunn procedure (MDP) compared with normative reference values?
METHODS: 17 children with SCFE who had undergone PIN (n=7, slip severity mild to moderate) or MDP (n=10, slip severity

BACKGROUND: The treatment of slipped capital femoral epiphysis (SCFE) is always surgical. In situ fixation (ISF) is widely accepted to stop the epiphysis slipping. Femoroacetabular impingement (FAI) is recognized as a complication after ISF and is one of the major causes of early hip osteoarthritis.
STUDY AIM: The aim of this study was to characterize the relation between clinical and radiological signs of FAI.
METHODS: A monocentric study that included all consecutive children treated for SCFE by ISF between 2006 and 2017 was performed. Clinical examination consisted in range of motion (ROM

BACKGROUND: Slipped capital femoral epiphysis (SCFE) is usually seen in patients with high body mass index (BMI) and endocrine diseases. SCFE is exceedingly rare among Cerebral palsy (CP) patients due to spasticity present in those patients. Percutaneous in situ fixation is the treatment option for SCFE patients. According to the literature, there's no single case report with SCFE in a spastic CP patient with no prior history of trauma, seizure episodes, or endocrine disease.
CASE PRESENTATION: We report a case of an 11-year-old spastic cerebral palsy (CP) patient with a physical status of le

BACKGROUND: Slipped Capital Femoral Epiphysis (SCFE), is one of the most common hip disorders in adolescents, and is treated surgically by performing an Imhäuser osteotomy. The use of 3D printed guides has shown promise in improving the accuracy of the osteotomy. However, misplacement of the guide may limit the improvement. Therefore, the aim of this study was to investigate, postoperatively, the degree of malalignment of 3D printed guides compared to the 3D planning.
METHODS: Patients who underwent surgery between April 2018 and October 2022 and underwent postoperative CT were included in th

BACKGROUND: Mid-term results following surgical hip dislocation (SHD) for healed slipped capital femoral epiphysis (SCFE) and Perthes-related deformities are limited. This study aimed to characterize patient-reported outcome measures [including rates of achieving the minimal clinically important difference (MCID) and patient-acceptable symptomatic state (PASS)], report survivorship free from conversion to arthroplasty, and identify risk factors associated with composite failure.
METHODS: Twenty-seven patients (n=13 SCFE, n=14 Perthes) with minimum 2-year follow-up (mean 5.7 y) who underwent p

CASE: Physeal stability in slipped capital femoral epiphysis (SCFE) depends on integrity of the hypertrophic zone. This in turn is affected by imbalance between circulating growth hormones and gonadal hormones. This case describes the occurrence of SCFE in a Māori (indigenous New Zealander) transgender girl, undergoing gender-affirming therapy with a gonadal-releasing hormone analog (GnRHa).
CONCLUSION: Surgeons and clinicians alike should be aware that GnRHa in gender-affirming therapy may confer an additional risk factor, lowering the threshold required for SCFE to occur. Counseling patient

Slipped capital femoral epiphyses (SCFE) is considered to be a very common disorder among adolescent age group. Multiple risk factors have been reported such as obesity, endocrine disorders, vitamin D deficiency, and panhypopituitarism. The diagnosis of SCFE is important especially in its early stages as this would prevent complications and delay in surgical intervention. The diagnosis is mainly done by radiological imaging and clinical evaluation. However, clinical evaluation is often overlooked. Herein, we present a case of a seven-year-old with SCFE that was diagnosed late due to negative r
