Spinal disorders lead to paralysis, numbness, pain, etc., due to nerve compression within the spinal canal, affecting quality of life (QOL). Identifying nerve compression is vital for accurate diagnosis. The pulsation of the dura mater, which contains cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) from the choroid plexus, is sometimes evaluated with ultrasound during surgery. Despite its clinical relevance, the physical characteristics of this pulsation remain largely unexplored due to advancements questioning traditional bulk flow theories. This study aimed to analyze the dynamics of dura mater pulsation for a be

BACKGROUND: Percutaneous endoscopic unilateral laminotomy and bilateral decompression (Endo-ULBD) has been applied to patients with lumbar spinal canal stenosis (LSS). However, it remains unclear whether gait and postural balance in LSS patients fully recover to normal levels following ULBD surgery.
METHODS: This retrospective study included 60 symptomatic LSS patients (LSS group) and 60 healthy age-matched adults (control group). The LSS group was assessed at four time points: preoperatively, 3, 6, and 12 months postoperatively. Evaluations included the Visual Analog Scale (VAS) and Oswestry

BACKGROUND: The sedimentation sign offers an efficient method for evaluating lumbar spinal stenosis. However, limited research exists regarding its applicability to post-operative MRI scans. This study aims to assess the viability of utilizing the nerve root sedimentation sign (NRSS) and Schizas classification (SC) in the evaluation of post-operative lumbar stenosis.
METHODS: Patients were classified into seven groups using SC: A1, A2, A3, A4, B, C and D. The dural sac cross-sectional area (DSCA), anterior-posterior dural sac diameter (AP), and the Oswestry disability index (ODI) of each grou

OBJECTIVES: Lumbar spinal stenosis (LSS) is a common condition characterized by the narrowing of the spinal canal, often leading to neural compression. Accurate imaging is crucial for diagnosis and surgical planning, with MRI and CT being the primary modalities. While MRI excels in soft tissue visualization, CT is superior for assessing bony structures. This study compares lumbar spinal canal cross-sectional area measurements on MRI and CT in patients undergoing surgery for LSS.
METHODS: Twenty patients with LSS who underwent lumbar decompression surgery after failed conservative treatment we

BACKGROUND: Lumbar spinal stenosis is the most common cause for spinal surgery of older adults. It is associated with pain in the legs and back as well as impaired ambulation. Minimally Invasive Lumbar Decompression (MILD®, Vertos Medical) is a percutaneous, image-guided lumbar decompression technique for central canal stenosis secondary to a hypertrophied ligamentum flavum. However, whether MILD can achieve adequate beneficial results in patients with lumbar spinal stenosis remains undetermined.
OBJECTIVE: To assess the efficacy and complications of MILD for lumbar spinal stenosis.

A severely injured patient was intubated at the accident site. The polytrauma computed tomography (CT) revealed complex injuries to the trunk and open fractures of the extremities. Stable fractures of the C2 and L4 vertebrae were identified in the spine. During the course of treatment a sensorimotor deficit in the lower extremities persisted on extubation. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) revealed an intraspinal subdural hemorrhage with absolute stenosis of the spinal canal. Immediate decompression did not result in any improvement of symptoms. A spinal subdural hematoma is a rare condition wi

BACKGROUND CONTEXT: Lumbar spinal canal stenosis (LSCS) presents with various radiographic findings, often including concurrent degenerative changes. Prior studies have investigated the effects of individual radiographic findings and parameters separately using conventional methods such as logistic regression. However, applying these independent effects to real-world patients remains challenging due to an unknown interaction effect among multiple degenerative radiographic findings.
PURPOSE: To identify distinct patient phenotypes based on preoperative radiographic findings using unsupervised

Surgical technique and the clinical outcomes of intersegmental fixation with an interspinous spacer (IFIS) for lumbar spinal instability are reported in this study. Four patients underwent surgery using this procedure. There were no surgical complications, and the clinical outcomes were satisfactory. Spinal alignment was maintained successfully as observed radiographically, and bone fusion was obtained in all cases. This technique may be an alternative for patients with degenerative lumbar disease such as spondylolisthesis and lumbar spinal stenosis (LSS) with mild spinal instability.

BACKGROUND: Developing computer-assisted methods to measure the Torg-Pavlov ratio (TPR), defined as the ratio of the sagittal diameter of the cervical spinal canal to the sagittal diameter of the corresponding vertebral body on lateral radiographs, can reduce subjective influence and speed up processing. The TPR is a critical diagnostic parameter for developmental cervical spinal stenosis (DCSS), as it normalizes variations in radiographic magnification and provides a cost-effective alternative to CT/MRI in resource-limited settings. No study focusing on automatic measurement was reported. The

BACKGROUND CONTEXT: Tandem spinal stenosis (TSS) can present with a constellation of myriad neurological symptoms and signs. Whole spine MRI has improved the diagnosis but does not aid therapeutic decision-making. While most studies have focused on cervico-lumbar TSS, there is inadequate literature on TSS of other regions. Further, there are no guidelines on the optimal surgical strategy for patients with TSS.
STUDY DESIGN: Retrospective evaluation of prospectively collected data.
PURPOSE: To develop a clinico-radiological treatment algorithm for TSS involving all the regions of the spine.

INTRODUCTION: The reliability of patient-reported outcome measures is typically evaluated in patients with chronic or stable symptoms, pre-treatment. After treatment, symptoms may be less extreme and less variable within a group, which may influence indices of reliability. Further, few studies have examined the reliability of retrospective, single item global assessment scores after treatment, despite the latter often being used as the external criterion when determining an instrument's minimal clinically important change (MCIC) score. This study examined the stability of Core Outcome Measures

A young male patient presented with acute onset spastic quadriparesis. Clinically, he exhibited features of acromegaly alongside spastic quadriparesis. Neuroimaging revealed an osteophyte complex causing cord compression and canal stenosis. Biochemical and radiological assessments confirmed a growth hormone-secreting pituitary macroadenoma. He underwent anterior cervical discectomy with vertebral fusion of the cervical cord to relieve his neurological symptoms. His acromegaly was subsequently managed with surgery, followed by radiotherapy and medical therapy. While acromegaly may rarely presen
