Bilateral proptosis as the first manifestation in a patient with acute myeloid leukemia: Case report.

RATIONALE: Myeloid sarcoma (MS), also known as granulocytic sarcoma or chloroma, is a rare manifestation of acute myeloid leukemia (AML) that occurs concurrently with, following, or rarely before the onset of leukemia. It consists of immature myeloid cells that proliferate in extramedullary tissues. Owing to the rare association between bilateral proptosis and AML, it is often misdiagnosed as other conditions that present with proptosis, such as infections (as in our case), vascular lesions, or tumors, particularly rhabdomyosarcoma and neuroblastoma, creating a diagnostic dilemma. PATIENT CON

Viral mechanisms, tropism, and clinical relevance regarding the ophthalmic manifestations of SARS-CoV-2 infection.

To explore the mechanisms underlying ocular infection by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), we conducted a comprehensive review of current literature, focusing on viral entry pathways, receptor expression in ocular tissues, and associated clinical manifestations. This review encompasses studies published within the last five years with a focus on original research and systematic reviews that provide molecular, histological, or clinical evidence. The findings show that SARS-CoV-2 can infect ocular tissues through multiple receptors beyond angiotensin-converting enzyme

Unlocking Pranoprofen's Hidden Glow: β-Cyclodextrin-Driven Fluorescence Amplification of Pranoprofen for Pharmaceutical and Biological Analysis.

This study introduces a novel approach for enhancing the inherent native fluorescence of pranoprofen, a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID), commonly used to treat allergic conjunctivitis. The fluorescence was significantly amplified when pranoprofen was encapsulated within the hydrophobic cavity of β-cyclodextrin, which provided a favorable microenvironment that stabilized its protonated form. The enhanced fluorescence intensity was measured at 404 nm following excitation at 273 nm with a large Stokes shift of around 130 nm. The method was validated following ICH guidelines and demons

A variant in RESF1 is associated with Addison's disease and multiple autoimmune syndrome in young Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retrievers.

Addison's disease (AD) results in glucocorticoid and mineralocorticoid deficiencies and is often immune-mediated. While AD is uncommon in dogs, Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retrievers (NSDTRs) exhibit increased incidence, suggesting genetic predisposition. Detailed clinical evaluation of 24 juvenile-onset cases revealed that while all dogs presented with adrenal insufficiency, at least 10 dogs (41.7%) had concurrent autoimmune conditions. This suggests juvenile-onset AD in NSDTRs represents part of a broader multiple autoimmune syndrome (MAS) with variable expressivity. Strikingly, NSDTRs affected

Real-world effectiveness and safety of dupilumab in children with atopic dermatitis: a Latin American single-center study.

BACKGROUND: Atopic dermatitis (AD) is common in children (affecting ~20% of children globally) and imposes a substantial burden. Many children in Latin America have moderate-to-severe AD with limited access to advanced therapies, highlighting an unmet need for safe and effective treatment options. Dupilumab, a targeted anti-interleukin-4 (IL-4)-IL-13 biologic, has demonstrated efficacy in pediatric AD, but real-world data in Latin American children are scarce. METHODS: We conducted a single-center retrospective observational study in Mexico City with children (aged 4-18 years) with moderate-t
