PURPOSE: We evaluate whether steroid application alone or retraction and hygiene are responsible for successful results in boys treated with topical steroids for phimosis.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: A prospective study was performed, which included a control group of 42 patients with phimosis seen at our outpatient department from January to June 1997. During that time we trained the parent to retract and clean the foreskin only. Urogenital synovial sarcoma is an exceedingly rare lesion that can be clinically confused with chronic inflammatory masses and granulomas, squamous cell carcinoma, malignant melanoma or metastatic tumours. We present a case of primary synovial sarcoma of the penis in a 29-year-old Egyptian male. This case report is, to the best of our knowledge, the first report in the medical literature. A review of other penile sarcomas is included with a description and discussion of their pathological and clinical manifestations.

During the years 1985 up to 1995 53 patients between 18 and 80 years of age (mean age 54.7 years) with histologically and clinically proven Zoon's balanitis were treated by circumcision. The majority of patients had symptoms for more than 12 months. Balanitis xerotica obliterans was studied in 48 fully developed and 6 early cases in children aged 2-15 years. Worldwide in about ten percent of boys general circumcision is performed. The motivations are religious or other rites and ethnic customs, but no scientific medical indication exist for this intervention, even not the small group with inborn phimosis. For these until now only the surgical way is given by circumcision. In 56 cases of boys before puberty with severe phimosis 53 could be completely cured by combined parenteral HCG and local Corticoid treatment within 4-6 weeks. The longtime follow up study did not show any later side effect. The therapeutic scheme is given.
