Clinical value of transperineal ultrasound in evaluating the diagnostic grade of rectocele in Chinese women with obstructed defecation syndrome: An observational study.

We aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of transperineal ultrasound (TPUS) in diagnosing rectocele, rectal intussusception (RI), enterocele, perineal descent (PD), and cystocele in Chinese women with obstructed defecation syndrome (ODS), and to determine the grading of rectocele via TPUS. Between January 2019 and December 2021, 107 obstructed defecation syndrome patients, with a mean age of 49.76 years, received TPUS and defecation proctography (DEP). Both methods were used to diagnose anorectal angle, rectocele, RI, enterocele, and PD, while cystocele and uterine prolapse were diagnosed only t

Safety and Effectiveness of G-Mesh® Gynecological Meshes Intended for Surgical Treatment of Pelvic Organ Prolapse-A Retrospective Analysis.

Background: The prevalence of POP in women ranges from 30-40%, with 10-20% requiring surgical intervention. Annually, over 225,000 surgical procedures for POP are performed in the United States. The severity of prolapse is assessed using the four-stage POP-Q system, which facilitates clinical research by providing a standardized measure of defect severity. Surgical intervention is indicated for more severe cases, with various techniques available through vaginal or abdominal access. Synthetic meshes, primarily made of polypropylene (PP), are commonly used in POP surgeries due to their biocompa

Examining pessary use and satisfaction in managing pelvic organ prolapse: results from a cross-sectional multicentre patient survey.

BACKGROUND: Vaginal pessaries are a common method of managing pelvic organ prolapse (POP), as well as different types of urinary incontinence, allowing patients to successfully improve overall quality of life. Yet despite their positive attributes, there are several reasons why patients may choose to discontinue using pessaries and proceed with surgery to treat their condition instead. This study aimed to explore patients' experiences of pessary use in treating POP. METHODS: Participants completed an online survey regarding pessary use and ideal characteristics of a pessary. Participants were

A single step transvaginal surgery in managing vesicovaginal fistula with grade III cystocele in post hysterectomy patient: A case report and literature review.

INTRODUCTION: Vesicovaginal fistula (VVF) is a persistent issue, particularly after obstetric surgeries such as hysterectomy. Complications like pelvic organ prolapse (POP) and underactive bladder often occur (Barber and Maher, 2013; Rajaian et al., 2019). Women with both VVF and cystocele experience reduced quality of life and psychological challenges (Alio et al., 2011). This case report highlights the management of a woman with VVF and cystocele following hysterectomy. CASE PRESENTATION: A 53-year-old woman presented with urinary incontinence and a vaginal bulge two years post-hysterectomy

A Rare Case of an Irreducible Inguinoscrotal Hernia (Scrotal Cystocele) With a Left Vaginal Hydrocele: A Case Report.

Inguinal bladder hernia, also known as scrotal cystocele, first described by Dr. Levine, is considered among the rare cases that may or may not present as scrotal swelling depending on the size of the herniated part. In this particular patient, he presented with scrotal swelling and symptoms related to difficulties in micturition, such as incomplete voiding and increased frequency of voiding urine. On contrast-enhanced computed tomography (CECT), it was revealed that the bladder had been herniated into the inguinoscrotal region, accompanied by a left vaginal hydrocele. The hydrocele was then d

Complete excision of a Skene gland cyst mimicking cystocele.

Skene gland abnormalities include skene gland cysts and abscess. These can be differentiated from urethral diverticulum based on clinical findings. The exact incidence of Skene gland abnormalities is unknown as they are relatively rare. They are usually seen in middle-aged female patients but have recently been reported in newborn girls. We present a video case of a large, adult-onset Skene gland cyst, which was evaluated based on clinical findings, radiological aspects and histopathological findings. The differential diagnosis was carried out step-by-step in order to avoid sequelae and comple

Diagnosis and management of complications following pelvic organ prolapse surgery using a synthetic mesh: French national guidelines for clinical practice.

UNLABELLED: Complications associated with pelvic organ prolapse (POP) surgery using a synthetic non-absorbable mesh are uncommon (<5%) but may be severe and may hugely diminish the quality of life of some women. In drawing up these multidisciplinary clinical practice recommendations, the French National Authority for Health (Haute Autorité de santé, HAS) conducted an exhaustive review of the literature concerning the diagnosis, prevention, and management of complications associated with POP surgery using a synthetic mesh. Each recommendation for practice was allocated a grade (A,B or C; or exp

Defining the "Cutoff" on the Urethral Caliber in Diagnosing a Female Urethral Stricture.

Introduction The rarity in detecting female urethral stricture (FUS) backed by the inconsistency regarding the cutoff on the caliber to direct any treatment for its increase poses a challenge to its existence. Therefore, the present study was conducted to determine the caliber of the urethra that clearly identifies a FUS. Materials and method In this prospective observational study conducted between November 2015 and July 2017, women with obstructive lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) and a history of relief on at least a single urethral dilatation were included if the American Urological Ass
