Dear Editor, Pityriasis versicolor (PV) is a superficial mycosis caused by Malassezia species and most often affects the trunk and upper limbs. Flexural or inverse variants, however, may differ markedly from classical morphology due to the influence of moisture, temperature, and friction. These atypical presentations frequently mimic erythrasma, candidal intertrigo, tinea cruris, seborrheic dermatitis, and pigmentary disorders. [...].

INTRODUCTION: The Siddha formulation Gandhaga Rasayanam (GRM) is a classical polyherbo-mineral medicine containing purified sulphur and other herbal ingredients, including Schedule E(1) drugs. It is traditionally used to manage chronic ailments and dermatological conditions. Limited safety data have been documented for Siddha medicines; this report highlights a suspected adverse cutaneous reaction probably associated with GRM.
CASE SUMMARY: A 36-year-old female treated for residual Padarthamarai (Tinea cruris) developed elevated plaque with ill-defined, diffuse borders over the neck and upper

Tinea corporis and tinea cruris are common dermatophyte infections of increasing public health concern, yet national US data are limited. We estimated incidence, risk factors, and diagnostic and treatment practices among a large Medicaid-insured outpatient cohort. Among ∼6 800 000 enrollees, 54 108 were diagnosed with tinea corporis (79.1/10 000 person-years) and 8386 with tinea cruris (12.2/10 000 person-years). Tinea corporis primarily affected young children and Black patients, while tinea cruris was prevalent among middle-aged men. Overall, <10% received diagnostic testing, and 7%-10% were

BACKGROUND: Dermatophyte infections, which are among the most prevalent fungal infections globally, affect skin, hair and nails, accounting for significant morbidity. Epidemiological data on dermatophytosis in the UK are limited. One notable study in 2007 provided insights into the causative agents of dermatophyte infections in the UK; however, no extensive regional analysis has been published since.
OBJECTIVES: The aim of this study was to provide a contemporary understanding of the epidemiology and causative agents of dermatophytosis in South-East England.
METHOD: This retrospective labora

Dermatophytosis is a common skin infection worldwide. In recent years, Trichophyton mentagrophytes var. indotineae has rapidly emerged as a leading cause of recalcitrant dermatophytosis. Iran shows high genetic diversity within the T. mentagrophytes complex, suggesting local emergence of new genotypes, yet nationwide data remain limited. We performed a one-year multicentre, hospital-based survey of referred cases (September 2023-September 2024) in nine provinces of Iran to describe the current epidemiology of dermatophytosis and to analyse mutations in the squalene epoxidase (SQLE) gene associ

BACKGROUND: Dermatophytes, primarily Epidermophyton spp., Trichophyton spp., and Microsporum spp., are responsible for superficial cutaneous mycoses, estimated to affect 20-25% of the people worldwide. The rise of antifungal resistance, especially to terbinafine, has made treating dermatophytosis increasingly difficult. This study aims to assess the clinical and mycological characteristics of dermatophytosis cases and evaluate the in vitro susceptibility of dermatophyte isolates to terbinafine and griseofulvin.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: A total of 118 samples were studied from patients with clin

Chronic and recalcitrant dermatophytosis has become an increasing therapeutic challenge, particularly in India, where widespread antifungal misuse and environmental factors contribute to persistent infections. This study investigated the clinical patterns, antifungal susceptibility, and molecular mechanisms underlying terbinafine resistance in patients with tinea corporis and tinea cruris. A total of 105 clinically diagnosed and KOH-positive patients were enrolled. The majority were male (60%) with a mean age of 34 years and an average disease duration of 13 months. Most cases involved multipl

Fungal skin infections represent the fourth most prevalent disease globally, predominantly attributed to dermatophyte species such as Trichophyton. Nevertheless, sporadic instances of dermatophytosis may also arise from opportunistic, uncommon fungi. This study documents the association of keratinophilic fungi, Myriodontium keratinophilum and Aphanoascus verrucosus, with cases of dermatophytosis in Kashmir, North India. Internal transcribed spacer region sequencing of 64 isolates obtained from skin, hair, and nail samples of 62 patients identified 61% of isolates (n = 39) as M. keratinophilum,

BACKGROUND: Granular parakeratosis (GP) is an uncommon dermatosis characterized by scaly, erythematous to brownish eruptions in intertriginous areas. Diagnosis is challenging and traditionally requires histological confirmation. While dermoscopy and ultraviolet-induced fluorescence dermoscopy (UVFD) offer non-invasive diagnostic approaches, their characteristic findings in GP remain inadequately defined.
OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to systematically characterize the dermoscopic and UVFD features of GP, with a secondary aim of evaluating their diagnostic utility in differentiating GP from othe

The month of March is dedicated to Colon Cancer Awareness. Worldwide, colorectal cancer (CRC) incidence has been on the rise. It is currently the third most common cancer in men (746,000 cases, 10.0% of the total) and the second in women (614,000 cases, 9.2% of the total).1 Arecent meta-analysis reported a 61% risk reduction in CRC incidence with colonoscopy.2 Unlike screening programs for breast and prostate cancers, not only has CRC screening reduced mortality from colon cancer and detected early CRC, it has also decreased the incidence of CRC through detection and removal of pre-cancerous l
