BackgroundGestational weight gain (GWG) is a critical factor affecting maternal and fetal health. Excessive GWG increases the risk of complications and contributes to the prevalence of overweight and obesity among women of reproductive age. Despite existing guidelines, many pregnant individuals struggle to manage GWG effectively. Therefore, theory-based and evidence-informed interventions that provide continuous support are urgently needed. Mobile health (mHealth) applications have emerged as promising, cost-effective, and accessible tools for promoting healthy behaviors during pregnancy. This

Preeclampsia (PE) occurs in approximately 2-8% of all pregnancies worldwide and represents one of the primary causes of maternal and fetal morbidity and mortality. Angiogenic growth factors such as placental growth factor (PlGF) and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), along with their tyrosine kinase receptor (Flt-1), play a central role in placental and fetal development. Impaired placentation results in the excessive release of the antiangiogenic soluble fms-like tyrosine kinase-1 (sFlt-1) which is pivotal in the pathogenesis of PE. By binding to and neutralizing angiogenic factors, s

This review presents analysis of gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) in Slovenia based on national data and published research over a decade. Slovenia adopted the International Association of Diabetes and Pregnancy Study Groups (IADPSG) recommendations in 2011 and integrated them into routine antenatal care by 2023. Universal screening has increased the prevalence of GDM from 4 % before 2010 to 21 % in 2023. The analysed perinatal outcomes improved: the overall rates of large for gestational age (LGA) neonates and Erb's palsy decreased (AOR 0.93, 95 % CI 0.91-0.96 and AOR 0.72, 95 % CI 0.60-0.

Mid-trimester pregnancy loss (MTL), defined as a pregnancy loss occurring between 14 + 0 and 21 + 6 weeks of gestation, causes significant physical and emotional distress to women and presents clinical challenges to healthcare professionals. It is acknowledged that in low-resource settings, this guideline might be applicable to births up to 28 weeks or babies weighing less than 1 kg. Risk factors for MTL include advanced maternal age, previous history of MTL, women of Black ethnicity, smoking, excessive alcohol consumption, obesity, and anatomical factors such as a short cervix, congenital ute

BACKGROUND: Caesarean section (C-section) rates in Mexico have risen dramatically over the past decade, reaching 55% by 2023. While life-saving when correctly indicated, excessive use may alter the natural timing of childbirth and shift population-level birth outcomes.
OBJECTIVES: To examine national trends in gestational age, birth weight and birth length from 2010 to 2023, and evaluate their association with mode of delivery.
DESIGN: Population-based repeated cross-sectional analysis using national birth certificate data.
METHODS: We analysed a 1-in-1000 random sample of birth certificate

BACKGROUND: Early-onset pre-eclampsia (ePE) is a severe pregnancy complication characterized by dysregulated trophoblast functions and impaired placentation during early pregnancy, leading to substantial maternal and fetal morbidity. While circumstantial evidence indicates defective secretion from endometrial glands impairs placental development, direct evidence linking maternal glandular dysfunction to ePE pathogenesis remains elusive.
METHODS: We established endometrial glandular organoids from women with ePE and healthy pregnancies, analyzing their secretomes by iTRAQ-based proteomics, RNA

BACKGROUND: The application or excessive exposure to glucocorticoids constitutes a common adverse factor endured by intrauterine fetuses. Gestational glucocorticoids' exposure is intimately associated with the risk of postnatal vascular problems; however, whether the vascular problem can be transgenerationally inherited remains indistinct. In this study, a mouse model of gestational glucocorticoids' exposure was established, aiming to discover the abnormal phenotype of acquired vascular function of the offspring and clarify the epigenetic mechanism of the transgenerational transmission of the

UNLABELLED: Given the importance of carbohydrates during pregnancy and the limited evidence on the impact of its excessive intake on offspring neurodevelopment, this study aimed to assess the associations between maternal glycemic index (GI) and glycemic load (GL) during early and late pregnancy and behavior problems in 4-year-old children, considering potential sex-related differences in susceptibility to maternal diet. This observational study included 188 mother-child pairs from the ECLIPSES study. GI and GL were estimated from a validated food frequency questionnaire. Offspring behavior wa

BACKGROUND: Gestational environmental perturbations can induce sex-specific developmental programming, increasing offspring susceptibility to chronic diseases. While prenatal high estradiol (HE) exposure has been associated with male-biased neurodevelopmental disorders, the underlying mechanisms remain poorly understood.
METHODS: Using spatial transcriptomics in a murine HE exposure model, we systematically characterized sex-divergent molecular and cellular responses in fetal brains. Through cell type identification, spatial mapping, ligand-receptor interaction analysis, and transcription fac

As one of the leading causes of premature birth and maternal and infant mortality worldwide, preeclampsia remains a major unmet public health challenge. Preeclampsia and related hypertensive disorders of pregnancy are estimated to cause >75 000 maternal and 500 000 infant deaths globally each year. Because of rising rates of risk factors such as obesity, in vitro fertilization and advanced maternal age, the incidence of preeclampsia is going up with rates ranging from 5% to 10% of all pregnancies worldwide. A major discovery in the field was the realization that the clinical phenotypes related

AIMS/INTRODUCTION: In 2021, the guidelines on gestational weight gain (GWG) were revised and increased by 2-3 kg in Japan. This study aimed to investigate whether the revised guidelines would increase the incidence of babies with excessive birth weight in mothers with diabetes.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: This retrospective study included 369 deliveries of women with diabetes whose pre-pregnancy body mass index was below 30 kg/m2 between 1982 and 2021. The primary outcome measure was large for gestational age (LGA). We compared the incidence of LGA between women who gained weight within the previo

Pheochromocytomas are rare catecholamine-secreting tumors that occur in 0.002% of pregnancies. These tumors result in high maternal and fetal morbidity and mortality unless diagnosed in early stages of development, because excess levels of catecholamines cause vasoconstriction of both maternal and uteroplacental vasculature. Paroxysmal hypertension is the most common manifestation, but its variability in presentation and similarity to other pregnancy-related conditions often make diagnosis of pheochromocytoma difficult. Thus, it is essential to consider underlying pathological causes of hypert
