Impact of maternal late hospital arrival on adverse outcome of offspring affected by placental abruption: A regional multicenter nested case-control study in Japan.

AIMS: To elucidate the influence of the time-intervals between the onset and arrival (TIME 1), onset and delivery (TIME 2), and the decision to deliver and delivery (TIME 3) on severe adverse outcomes of offspring born to mothers complicated by placental abruption outside the hospital. METHODS: This is a multicenter nested case-control study about placental abruption at Fukui Prefecture, a regional area in Japan, through 2013 to 2017. Multiple pregnancy, fetal or neonatal congenital abnormality, and unknown detailed information at onset of placental abruption were excluded. A composite of per

Lessons from timing of ablation therapy for multi-drug refractory gestational atrial tachycardia with abruptio placentae: a case report.

BACKGROUND: Supraventricular tachycardia poses a clinical challenge during pregnancy, particularly if refractory to antiarrhythmic medications. Performing catheter ablation during pregnancy necessitates careful risk benefit analysis for both the mother and foetus, especially with left-sided ablations that may require post-procedural systemic anticoagulation. CASE SUMMARY: We describe a case of a 31-year-old pregnant woman with refractory atrial tachycardia which failed a multi-antiarrhythmic drug regimen and ultimately developed abruptio placentae, requiring a carefully staged ablation approa

Plasma Homocysteine, Folic Acid and Vitamin B12 in Abruptio Placentae: A Cross-Sectional Study of Their Role and Feto-Maternal Outcome.

Background Out of the many causes of abruptio placentae, the micronutrient association with its occurrence and severity has not been researched extensively till now. We aim to measure the serum levels of homocysteine, folic acid and vitamin B12 in patients with abruptio placentae in the third trimester of pregnancy and compare the levels with those without the complication. We also propose to compare the feto-maternal outcome between the groups. Methods The cross-sectional study was undertaken in 50 pregnant women with abruption before or during delivery and 50 controls with uncomplicated preg

Maternal Hyperhomocysteinemia as a Predictor of Placenta-Mediated Pregnancy Complications: A Two-Year Novel Study.

Background Placenta-mediated pregnancy complications (PMPCs) are a significant contributor to adverse maternal and fetal outcomes. Though the exact cause of the array of pregnancy-related vascular disorders is still unknown, increased maternal serum homocysteine (Hct) levels have been linked to the pathophysiology. Hyperhomocysteinemia (HHct) has been strongly linked with the risk of developing PMPCs such as preeclampsia (PE), fetal growth restriction (FGR), intrauterine fetal death (IUFD), preterm births and placental abruption. Methodology The present observational study was carried out on 8

Comparison of Adverse Maternal Outcomes between Early- and Late-Onset Superimposed Preeclampsia.

OBJECTIVE: Superimposed preeclampsia (SIPE), defined as preeclampsia in individuals with chronic hypertension, is one of the most common complications, accounting for 13 to 40% of pregnancies with chronic hypertension. However, there are limited data regarding maternal outcomes of early- and late-onset SIPE in individuals with chronic hypertension. We hypothesized that early-onset SIPE was associated with increased odds of adverse maternal outcomes compared with late-onset SIPE. Therefore, we aimed to compare adverse maternal outcomes between individuals with early-onset SIPE and those with la

Maternal hypertensive traits and adverse outcome in pregnancy: a Mendelian randomization study.

INTRODUCTION: Hypertensive disorders of pregnancy are associated with adverse feto-maternal outcomes. Existing evidence is mostly limited to observational studies, which are liable to confounding and bias. This study investigated the causal relevance of component hypertensive indices on multiple adverse pregnancy outcomes using Mendelian randomization. METHODS: Uncorrelated ( r2  < 0.001) genome-wide significant ( P  < 5 × 10 -8 ) single-nucleotide polymorphisms associated with SBP, DBP and pulse pressure (PP) were selected as instrumental variables. Genetic association estimates for outcomes
