A Novel Loop-Mediated Isothermal Amplification (LAMP) Primer Set for Detecting the STY2879 Gene of Salmonella enterica Serovar Typhi in Raw Milk.

Milk-borne outbreaks remain a significant issue in low-income countries due to unhygienic practices. Currently, there are no known easily accessible and low-cost diagnostic tests that can detect Salmonella enterica subsp. enterica serovar Typhi, the causative agent of typhoid fever, in raw milk samples at high specificity, sensitivity, and speed without preprocessing. Early detection of Salmonella enterica subsp. enterica serovar Typhi in food matrices is critical for preventing infection prior to consumption and reducing disease burden. Using colorimetric loop-mediated isothermal amplificatio

Anthropogenic tritium as a continental-scale tracer in river-derived recharge.

BACKGROUND: Environmental hazards like floods, droughts and landslides pose serious public health and wellbeing consequences for populations, especially vulnerable communities in countries with low adaptive capacity. Empirical evidence from peer-reviewed literature and official climate change assessments indicates that, alongside high interannual climate variability, Uganda has experienced observable climate change over the past 50 years. This changing and increasingly variable climate poses challenges to population health in diverse ways, including through the transmission of infectious disea

Antimicrobial-resistance in clinically harmful bacteria contaminating household drinking water in Eastern Uganda highlights urgent need for enhanced antibiotic resistance stewardship.

Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is escalating especially in waterborne bacteria, feared to cause over ten-million annual global deaths by 2050. In Eastern Uganda, bacterial contamination of household drinking water containers and sources such as boreholes is increasingly reported, but data on related AMR and contamination enables are scarce, complicating redress. On 260 random water samples, conventional culture and Kirby-Bauer disk diffusion assays were applied at Makerere University. Pre-validated semi structured questionnaires aided studying the contamination enablers. Thematic synthesis, de
